Chapter 299 My Heart Is With You

Chapter 299 My Heart Is With You

"Alice, my heart belongs to you now!"

James's words made Alice's heart skip a beat.

She turned and looked toward the Getty family's mansion gate.

TA gentle night breeze stirred the trees, and the shadows swayed. Dark shapes moved near the entrance.

She couldn't tell whether it was Rebecca or her mom hiding there, or just her imagination.

When Alice turned back, she grew even more annoyed. "James, are you serious? Didn't I say I'd think about it and get back to you? What are you doing following me all the way to my house?"

"I'm sorry, but I won't change!" James blurted.

Feigning an apology, he stepped closer. "Alice, I think I figured it out. You're decisive and sharp at work, but once you're off the clock you retreat into your shell, and no matter how hard I try, I can't reach you. So I've decided I'll try even harder!"

His smile faded into a sober expression as he gripped her shoulders. "I'm going to be more proactive than ever!"

"Alice, I don't know why you don't trust our future. Is it because of family background? Or do you have other options?"

"I..."

Before she could finish, James moved another step forward.

They were face-to-face. She stepped back instinctively, and he pressed her against the car door.

Guilt pricked at her, and she glanced toward the Getty family mansion gate again.

James, dissatisfied, shifted to block her view. "If it's about family background, let me be clear—I can decide who I marry. If you don't believe me, I can call my dad now and arrange for you to meet my parents tomorrow."

"I don't want to!" Alice snapped.

James's expression darkened. "So you do have other options?"

"Yes, I..."

"Alice, lies will come back to bite you!"

Before she could think of an excuse, his warning silenced her.

Alice shoved his arm away and glared. "Now you know lies comes back to bite you? When you lied to me before, did you ever think about that?"

James sighed helplessly. "When did I lie? I said my family was moderately wealthy. How was I supposed to know we had different understandings of 'moderately wealthy'? To me, being as rich as Mr. Windsor—with personal assets over a hundred billion—is wealthy. The Walker family is just comfortably well-off."

Alice rolled her eyes.

James continued his defense. "That mansion is one of my family's development, and it was a gift from my parents. I didn't lie! And as for being colleagues—we work for the same company, just at different levels, so yes, we're colleagues."

Alice fell silent.

"Alice!"

When she didn't answer, he raised his voice. "Anyway, my heart already belongs to you. I'm going home tonight to tell my parents, and they definitely won't object."

Alice stared at James, who was clearly starting to act shamelessly, completely speechless. "James! Do you have no shame?"

James shook his head. "I'm about to lose my girlfriend—why should I care about shame? I don't need it anymore!"

With that, James opened the car door, ready to leave.

Before he got in, he kissed Alice quickly.

He slid into the driver's seat before she could react, started the engine, drove a few feet, then rolled down the window. "Alice—three days. I'm giving you three more days!"

Alice's heart leapt.

The car sped away before she could answer.
