Chapter 158: Mind Your Own Business
When Donna came back, she behaved herself properly and didn't dare to speak carelessly anymore.
Lunch passed without incident.
After the meal, when they returned to the living room, the gift Donna had arranged to be delivered arrived.
A winter season new handbag.
In versatile black.
"I remembered to bring it before leaving home, but got so busy I forgot..."
Donna handed the gift box to Rebecca, smiling as she patted her hand. "When you and Frederick have your wedding, we'll give you a proper wedding gift. This one is just my greeting gift for our first meeting."
"Thank you!"
Rebecca sat down obediently.
John and Donna had come with a purpose.
Their son Francis Windsor had been back from studying abroad for over half a year now.
They had thought that since he was part of the Windsor family, even if he couldn't become a vice president or some high-level position, surely he could be a department director, right?
To their surprise, Frederick had assigned him to the Windsor Group's IT department, where he spent every day with a bunch of programmers.
Half a year had passed with no sign of promotion, and Francis was very frustrated.
That's why John and Donna decided to come over and drop some hints in Elizabeth's ear, hoping she'd help put in a good word.
But before they could even bring up their request, they got told off by Frederick because of Rebecca.
Not only did they fail to achieve their goal, but they also had to throw in a handbag worth over a hundred thousand dollars.
Just thinking about it made Donna sick to her stomach.
Her gaze swept over Rebecca, and she noticed that although Frederick seemed to be listening to them talk, his attention was entirely focused on Rebecca.
An idea formed in Donna's mind, and she smiled as she spoke: "Becca, when are you and Frederick planning to have children?"
Rebecca looked up, completely puzzled. "I'm still in school. I'm not considering it for the next couple of years."
If she were being completely honest, she wouldn't consider having children before age 25.
She was still young. Having kids wasn't urgent—she'd wait until she'd had enough fun.
As if not catching the lack of cooperation in Rebecca's words, Donna smiled and said, "That's what you say, but if you have them early, your body recovers faster. Then the child can stay at the old mansion with your grandmother, watching them. You two will have fulfilled your duty and can enjoy your time together as a couple without missing out on anything. Wouldn't that be great?"
Rebecca responded with an awkward but polite smile.
"How old were you when you had Francis?"
The moment Frederick spoke, Donna's heart skipped a beat.
Donna stammered, "I was 26 when I had him."
"Well, there you go then."
A hint of displeasure showed in his expression, as if he was about to ask them to leave if they couldn't get a clue.
Frederick said in a low voice, "Mind your own business."
Donna froze on the spot.
Donna hadn't expected that just mentioning having children would make Frederick angry.
She had only wanted to use the topic of having children to naturally lead into how difficult pregnancy and childbirth were, and then casually bring up Francis, hoping Frederick would give Francis some preferential treatment for their sake!
