Chapter 91 I Like Your Obedience
Dennis shot a look, and the men and women in the private room got up in unison and headed out.
A few women in revealing outfits with elaborate makeup looked Jessica up and down, then left with knowing smiles on their faces.
Without even asking Jessica to sit, Dennis looked up and asked, "That trending post on your forum—what's that about?"
Jessica shook her head. "I don't know either. Maybe Rebecca offended someone. But who knows—after all, Rebecca's face and the recent Getty family scandal are both hot topics. Someone probably just connected the dots."
Dennis smirked, clearly not buying her explanation.
Jessica froze, a thin layer of sweat forming in her palms.
In that post, those photos of Rebecca meeting and leaving with the man in black—she had taken them and sent them to "Rose."
Her original plan was that since Rebecca was engaged to Dennis but still involved with another man, if Rose leaked it, Rebecca would be thoroughly embarrassed on the Empire University forum. It would also let those guys at Empire University who had crushes on Rebecca see what their goddess was really like.
She hadn't expected Rose to have other dirt on Rebecca.
The post exploded the moment it went up—way more effective than her few photos.
She'd sent it to Dennis hoping he'd see Rebecca's true colors—whether they fought or broke up, anything that caused Rebecca trouble was good.
But looking at Dennis now, he seemed almost pleased about it.
Jessica's heart started racing.
Could it be what she was thinking?
Jessica stared blankly. "Mr. Johnson, you and Rebecca—"
"We're done!"
Dennis's words left Jessica stunned.
Tiny buds of joy bloomed in her heart.
She watched as Dennis tossed aside his cigarette and beckoned her over to sit.
Her heart pounding, Jessica walked around the glass table and sat on the sofa, keeping a person's width between herself and Dennis.
Even so, this was the closest she'd ever been to Dennis.
The air was thick with the smell of alcohol, but the hint of tobacco drifting from beside her was particularly distinct.
Afraid of accidentally revealing her feelings, Jessica looked up at Dennis. "Mr. Johnson, even though Rebecca moved out of the dorm, we're still in the same class. If you ever need anything in the future—"
Before she could finish, Dennis pulled her into his lap.
"Mr. Johnson..."
Feeling like her heart would jump out of her mouth if she spoke, Jessica's voice was barely a whisper.
"I know you like me," he said.
Jessica froze. Dennis stubbed out his cigarette and tilted her chin up, looking into those eyes that resembled Rebecca's. "And I like how obedient you are, how you listen. So from now on, anything related to Rebecca—you tell me right away. Got it?"
"I will!"
Jessica nodded repeatedly, her breathing unsteady. "Mr. Johnson... I'll be good."
Dennis nodded, a flash of darkness crossing his eyes.
After Rebecca got into Empire University, she'd told him that her roommates knew she was engaged and kept pestering her to have her fiancé treat them to dinner.
That Friday after school, he'd taken them to dinner at The Skyline Grand Hotel's rooftop restaurant and asked them to look after Rebecca.
That was the first time he'd met Jessica. She'd made no impression.
He'd seen her a few more times after that—sometimes when he picked Rebecca up from school for business dinners, sometimes when he missed Rebecca and went to see her.
Every time, he'd run into Jessica, even if just to say hello.
Once or twice was coincidence. But every single time?
Gradually, Dennis noticed he was seeing Rebecca's shadow in Jessica.
Sometimes it was the makeup.
Sometimes it was a certain style or vibe in how she dressed.
Eventually, Dennis understood why.
Rebecca's name slipped through his teeth as Dennis looked at Jessica, who copied Rebecca's style in every way.
For a moment, it was as if he really saw Rebecca.
"Baby, be good..."
Murmuring softly, Dennis leaned down and kissed her.
