Chapter 90 Everything is Just Right
"Floyd really doesn't know what's good for him! This divorce case would've brought in money and helped him get promoted to full-time. But what does he do? Doesn't take the case and embarrasses Joseph. I bet his promotion is toast now!"
"Who knows! Maybe he thinks the divorce case is beneath him and he's waiting for some big case."
"Him? But seriously, another year's almost over. We've been busting our butts all year, and what do we have to show for it? Just that tiny paycheck. Wonder when we'll ever land a job that pays a million a year!"
"A million-a-year job? Sure, there are some—like the legal department at the Windsor Group, those big companies. Work there and a million a year is guaranteed!"
"Forget it. At a company like the Windsor Group, contracts are worth hundreds of billions. With my limited skills, if I screw something up, I couldn't pay them back even if I sold everything I own!"
"You're missing the point. For cases that big, the entire legal department goes over every single word in the contract a million times. You think they'd put all that responsibility on one person? So yeah, get into a big company's legal department and you're set for life!"
"Just go home and get some sleep. You can have it all in your dreams!"
In no time, the office chatter shifted to rising gas prices and the upcoming Christmas.
That's when Floyd walked in with his coffee cup.
Everyone said their goodbyes and headed out. As the office quieted down, Floyd sat at his computer, checking the list in his hand and preparing materials for the next day's meetings.
Outside the Blue Bar, Jessica stepped out of the taxi. The cold wind hit her and she couldn't help but shiver.
For tonight's meeting with Dennis, she'd worn a black wool skirt under her short down jacket.
It hadn't felt too bad sitting in the car.
But getting out, it felt like she was wearing nothing—she was practically freezing.
Still, Jessica thought it was worth it.
Rebecca had an outfit like this, and that time when Dennis came to pick her up, he'd complimented her on how pretty she looked the moment he saw her.
She made the call. It rang once and cut off.
Before Jessica could even look confused, the glass door of the bar opened and a waiter in a white shirt and burgundy vest came running over.
"Hello, are you Ms. Brown? Mr. Johnson sent me to bring you in."
With that respectful greeting from the waiter, Jessica's heart soared with joy.
Walking into the bar, rhythmic electronic music blasted into her ears.
It was so loud it felt like her blood was pumping faster.
In the booths on both sides, men and women were drinking and playing drinking games, some standing at their tables dancing to the music.
At the rotating bar in the center, even the bartenders were blonde, blue-eyed foreigners, not to mention the rows of bottles with names she couldn't even pronounce.
On the dance floor, gorgeous guys and girls were everywhere.
Jessica's eyes couldn't take it all in.
Following the waiter all the way to the end of the hallway, as soon as the private room door opened, Jessica saw Dennis sitting in the corner.
Just as handsome as the last time she'd seen him.
And with that hint of melancholy about him, there was something incredibly alluring about him.
Jessica's heart started pounding.
Part of her thought Rebecca was a fool—she had such a catch of a fiancé in Dennis and didn't appreciate him, instead getting tangled up with that man in the black coat from the photos. What could she possibly see in him?
Part of her felt secretly thrilled.
If Dennis were still Rebecca's fiancé, no matter how many thoughts she had, they'd just be thoughts.
But now everything was just perfect!
"Mr. Johnson..."
Her flirtatious eyes saw only Dennis. Jessica called out softly and walked over to him.
