Chapter 83: A Big Enough Heart
"Hello, Mr. Ryan..."
Walking out of the restaurant, Rebecca found a quiet corner and briefly explained how she'd been smeared and slandered on the forum. "I know it's just online gossip, and if I don't care about it, it won't affect my normal life. But I do care!"
"I don't want people throwing dirt at me. I want everyone who's maliciously speculating and attacking me to pay the price they deserve!"
After scrolling through just a few pages, she saw countless nasty comments.
Forget about people defending her—there weren't even many questioning whether it was true.
If she ignored it, those people would definitely think she felt guilty, that they'd hit the mark, and they'd only get worse in the future.
Floyd Ryan was one of the lawyers in the Getty Group's legal department.
When the Getty Group went bankrupt and the legal department disbanded, the lawyers all went their separate ways.
Floyd was the only one who had called Rebecca to say that if she or Alexa ever needed anything he could help with, he definitely would.
"Ms. Getty, I understand!"
On the other end of the line, Floyd responded, "Send me the link to your campus forum, along with your login ID and password. I'll collect evidence, and then we'll proceed with legal action."
"Okay!"
Rebecca nodded. After hanging up, she added Floyd on Facebook, sent him the login information, and transferred the lawyer's fee to him as well.
During lunch break, the office area at Summit Law Firm was completely quiet.
When the other lawyers heard that Floyd had a new case, and that the client had already transferred the fee before he'd even started preparing, they were both envious and jealous.
Floyd had only joined Summit Law Firm this month. He had the same level of law license as them, but just because his previous job was at a big company like the Getty Group, even the boss treated him differently—as if it wouldn't be long before he shot up to become a top lawyer in the industry and bring glory to Summit Law Firm.
Several people gathered around and saw the pinned hot post on the Empire University campus forum on his computer screen.
After scanning through it, everyone understood the situation.
"Mr. Ryan, for this kind of forum trash talk post, even if you bring in legal action, it'll just end with a public apology at most. It won't make any waves."
"Exactly. It's just a bunch of young people running their mouths. You don't even have grounds to file a case. Defamation? Slander? Your client isn't even a celebrity, is she?"
"Right? Taking on cases like this is the most thankless work. You won't get famous from it, and you won't make much money either."
Everyone chimed in.
Floyd smiled warmly. "Whether it's a lot of money or a little doesn't matter. I'll just consider it doing a good deed and building up some karma."
The others exchanged glances, shrugged, and their eyes were full of disdain.
Not bothered by it, Floyd quickly finished his meal, went to the break room to make a cup of coffee, then sat in front of his computer and examined everything carefully.
Taking screenshots for evidence.
Recording IDs.
Once everything was thoroughly prepared, Floyd headed to Empire University in the afternoon.
---
After calling Floyd, Rebecca returned to her apartment.
All through lunch, Lucy kept looking like she wanted to say something but held back.
Rebecca couldn't help but laugh. "I already know about it. Don't worry, I can handle it!"
"You know?"
Lucy sat up, so angry she pounded the bed. "I thought people at top universities were supposed to be future elites, but their mouths are dirtier than my toilet at home. Becca, did you report this to your homeroom teacher? How's the school going to handle it?"
Counting on the school was less reliable than counting on herself.
If she weren't worried that Frederick would blow things out of proportion, Rebecca wouldn't have planned to contact Floyd at all.
With so many top lawyers in Empire City, was there any legal department better than the Windsor Group's?
Rebecca shook her head and looked at Lucy with excitement. "Lucy, is your toilet really that dirty?"
Lucy fell silent.
Rebecca really had nerves of steel.
