Chapter 76 Your Uncle Treats You Really Well
Star Apartments was right at the east gate of Empire University. Rebecca jogged all the way, and even after entering the apartment building, her heart was still racing with no sign of calming down.
She pushed the door open and leaned against it, breathing heavily.
Lucy poked her head out from the balcony, looking puzzled. "Rebecca, what's wrong?"
"Nothing... nothing..."
Touching her burning hot face, Rebecca shook her head. "Maybe I ran too fast."
After taking a few deep breaths to steady herself, Rebecca turned around and froze.
The already clean apartment now looked so cozy and warm.
Gone was the mess from when they'd just moved in Friday at noon.
On the desk, textbooks, notebooks, and study guides were neatly organized by category.
The table was polished until it shone.
In the closet, clothes of all lengths were arranged by color, either hung or folded.
Lucy had even put her socks in storage boxes, paired up and easy to find.
Everything looked so clean and tidy it could cure OCD.
Looking back, on the spacious balcony sat a small white round table with a pair of comfy-looking bean bags on either side.
In the wicker basket on the table were red apples, green dates, and two plump persimmons.
Really eye-catching.
The cold, empty apartment they'd left on Friday had transformed into a warm, lovely little nest.
Rebecca stood there stunned. "Lucy, you're so capable!... This makes me feel so bad!"
"If anyone should feel bad, it's me!"
Lucy finished hanging the laundry and reached out to pull Rebecca over. "Without you, I'd still be miserable, lonely, and cold in room 620. You pay the rent, I'll do the work - that way I can feel better about it too! So please, super adorable Becca, just accept it without guilt, okay?"
"Okay!"
Rebecca nodded and opened her arms to give Lucy a big hug. "Let's spend the next year and a half being good to each other."
As soon as she finished speaking, Rebecca's stomach growled.
Lucy paused. "It's already eight o'clock - don't tell me you haven't had dinner yet?"
"I forgot."
Rebecca touched her nose. "Do you have anything to eat?"
"Of course I do!"
Waving for Rebecca to unpack her small suitcase, Lucy got busy efficiently.
Then Rebecca started taking out ingredients to make Mexican food.
Seeing Rebecca's eyes nearly pop out of her head, Lucy realized belatedly, "Becca... can you handle spicy food?"
"Absolutely!"
Rebecca nodded eagerly.
Star Apartments was a graduate student residence with none of those rules about lights-out or no cooking that regular dorms had.
Each in a bean bag, they sat cross-legged, holding their bowls and eating heartily.
When her phone rang, knowing it must be Frederick, Rebecca went to answer. "What's up?"
"Becca, haven't you noticed we forgot something really important?"
"Dinner, right? I'm already eating - my lovely roommate made Mexican food."
"I had someone send over some food for you two."
"Great, bye..."
A few minutes after hanging up, there was a knock at the door.
Winking at Lucy and saying food from heaven had arrived, Rebecca got up to open the door.
Then she carried in two big bags.
Not only that, the woman who delivered the food also came in and filled up the fridge while she was at it.
The door closed and the room fell quiet.
Looking at the fully stocked fridge.
Then at the logo on the bags.
Lucy stared at Rebecca in a daze. "Becca, this is..."
"My uncle sent it."
Rebecca's smile was mischievous.
All her gossipy thoughts instantly scattered, and Lucy's face filled with envy. "Becca, your uncle is so good to you!"
