Chapter 32 I Forgive You!
"Rebecca!"
Frederick's grip tightened on the steering wheel, his eyes dark and stormy as he glared at Rebecca. "Do you love him that much? So much that even when he tries to destroy you, you just let it slide?"
"I..."
She wanted to say she didn't.
But Frederick didn't give her a chance to speak.
The engine roared as Frederick turned his head away, not sparing her another glance as the car sped toward Empire University.
The silence inside the car was suffocating.
The streetlights on either side of the road seemed to be racing backward.
Out of the corner of her eye, Rebecca could see the barely contained rage in Frederick's expression, as if she hadn't almost been set up by Dennis tonight but had cheated on him instead.
After about ten minutes, the car stopped outside the west gate of Empire University.
"Get out!"
There was an unmistakable hint of expulsion in Frederick's cold voice. Rebecca nodded, unbuckling her seatbelt.
Her fingers touched the door handle, and she hesitated for a moment before turning to look at the man whose face was still dark with anger. "Frederick, the reason I asked you to let it go is because what's done is done. I don't want things to escalate. It's not because I still have feelings for Dennis. Do you get that?"
Frederick looked up.
Rebecca continued, "If you weren't Dennis's uncle, I would have let you beat him up until he couldn't get out of bed. Since his father didn't teach him how to be a decent man, let reality and society do it! But you are his uncle!"
She sighed, "There were so many people at the bar. Can you imagine what the rumors would be like?"
Scandalous news has always been a favorite topic for people to discuss.
Especially the juicy gossip in the elite circles.
No one saw what Dennis did, only that a group of thugs harassed her, and then Frederick arrived and dealt with Dennis harshly.
In the end, no one would think Dennis was despicable.
They would only think Rebecca was shameless, and that Frederick disregarded family for a woman.
Everyone would say that Rebecca was the vixen who caused a rift between uncle and nephew, leading to a fight.
In the end, Dennis, who did the wrong, would become the victim, garnering sympathy.
And she and Frederick would lose their dignity and reputation.
What was the point?
Frederick's expression softened slightly.
He looked at Rebecca with an apologetic gaze, "I'm sorry, I overthought it."
"It's okay..."
Rebecca shook her head, a bright smile on her face. "I forgive you!"
With a sigh of relief, Rebecca opened the car door and got out.
Behind her, Frederick caught up with her, draping his coat over her shoulders, and they walked towards the dormitory building together.
"Don't let your hands get wet. I'll have a doctor come and take care of it tomorrow."
"No need! It's just a small injury. There's a first aid kit in the dorm, I can handle it myself."
"Tell me if anything happens."
"Okay!"
On the cold winter night, the campus was almost deserted. The two of them walked through the snow.
Seeing the bright lights of the dormitory building from a distance, Rebecca stopped and handed the coat back to Frederick. "You should go back. I'm going in now. Bye..."
Rebecca hunched her shoulders, running and waving back at him, like a petal blown off a branch, dancing in the wind.
Gone was the fragile look she had when he picked her up from the snow.
Frederick stood there, watching until she disappeared into the dormitory building before he finally turned and left after standing in the snow for a long time.
As soon as Rebecca entered the dormitory building, the warmth hit her, making her sneeze.
She removed the bandage from her hand, rubbed her cold face, and hurried up to the fifth floor.
The hallway was brightly lit, with girls washing up or chatting from room to room, laughter echoing down the corridor.
Seeing the partially open door of her dorm room from a distance, Rebecca's face lit up.
But then, she noticed the discarded snack box in the trash can outside the door.
Her expression froze, and she stopped outside the door.
Inside, she could clearly hear the conversation.
