Chapter 31: Becca, Are You Crazy?

Chapter 31: Becca, Are You Crazy?

As soon as the words left her mouth, Rebecca wished she could take them back.

She looked up and met his intense, piercing gaze.

Her mind flashed to Alex and Alex’s mother, the woman buried deep in Frederick’s heart.

Rebecca quickly tried to backtrack, “I was just talking nonsense, Frederick. Don’t…”

In her panic, she pulled her hand back, the spot where the ice had cut her palm scraping against the iodine-soaked cotton swab in Frederick’s hand. The sharp pain made her face go pale.

Frederick dropped the swab and quickly pressed a piece of gauze to the bleeding wound, a flash of anger crossing his face.

The opportunity was right there.

And he missed it!

Rebecca let out a quiet sigh, mentally berating herself: Becca, are you crazy? You can’t joke about things like this!

Seeing Frederick’s slightly angry expression, Rebecca shrank back, not daring to move as he wrapped her hand in a large bandage.

Rebecca was speechless.

She glanced out the window; they were still parked outside the Blue Bar. She softly said, “Frederick, I’m fine now. I can go back to school.”

“Alright.”

Frederick replied, taking off his coat and draping it over her shoulders, then leading her out of the car.

As soon as the car door opened, a blast of cold wind hit them.

Rebecca instinctively turned her head to avoid it, but Frederick pulled her into his arms.

His steady, strong heartbeat.

The scent of sandalwood emanating from him.

Rebecca was momentarily stunned as he guided her to the front passenger seat of the SUV.

As the car drove off, Rebecca stared at the dark night outside the window, feeling a moment of inner conflict.

If she hadn’t backtracked just now.

If she hadn’t used going back to school as an excuse to change the subject.

How would Frederick have responded?

Would he coldly say she was overthinking it, giving her a warning look not to do it again?

Or something else?

Anyway, she was already injured, and considering she was the patient, Frederick wouldn’t have thrown her out of the car, right?

Besides, even if he did, after a moment of embarrassment, she would still be Mrs. Windsor. Frederick couldn’t just take her to get a divorce with that flawed prenuptial agreement.

She should have taken a bold chance!

As soon as this thought crossed her mind, Rebecca quickly squashed it.

She had already suffered a loss with a man once!

She should have learned her lesson!

Love is a trap, Becca, remember that!

After mentally preparing herself, Rebecca spoke to Frederick again, her tone light and casual like during the day, “Frederick, tonight… really, thank you! I promise, I won’t act recklessly again!”

“Um…”

Hesitating slightly, Rebecca softly asked, “He… you didn’t do anything to him, did you?”

The steering wheel turned slightly, and the car smoothly pulled over. Frederick looked back at Rebecca, his face dark and cold like the frost outside the window, “Are you trying to plead for him?”

Rebecca stayed silent.

The moment she realized something was wrong, she felt like she had stabbed Dennis in the heart.

Even though they had called off the engagement, even though she was no longer his fiancée, they had grown up together.

But he could still do something so despicable.

However, once she calmed down, Rebecca’s only thought was: forget it!

After all, Dennis was Frederick’s nephew. If things were taken too far, it wouldn’t be good for the Johnson family, the Windsor family, or Frederick.

It was better to leave it to Frederick to handle.

But who was Frederick?

He was known for his ruthless methods in the elite circles of Empire City. Once he got involved, the nature of things would likely change.

When word got out, people wouldn’t know the reasons behind the incident or what she had gone through. They would only know that the uncle and nephew fought over her.

Calling her a femme fatale would be putting it nicely.

If worse things were said, wouldn’t she be the one to suffer in the end?

“Frederick, let’s just drop this.”

Rebecca bowed her head, her voice soft, “I’ve made things clear with him. After what happened, we won’t see each other again. Let’s just…” Let’s just consider it a costly lesson for me, I won’t make the same mistake again!

Rebecca’s words were abruptly cut off by Frederick.
