Chapter 201 You Smell Nice
When Rebecca walked in, she immediately spotted the messy medical kit scattered on the living room sofa.
The door to the first-floor master bedroom was open, and she could hear Frederick's deep, slow voice, as if he was reading aloud.
Rebecca walked over and saw Alex lying on the big bed with his eyes closed, seemingly asleep.
Frederick was holding a storybook, reading slowly.
Seeing Rebecca, Frederick's eyes lit up, then he gently shook his head.
Rebecca tiptoed over.
Just as she reached out her hand, Frederick stopped her.
Frederick stood up smoothly. "The fever's already gone. He'll be fine after a good sleep."
Putting the book back on the shelf, Frederick put his arm around Rebecca and led her out.
As the door closed, Frederick pulled her close, turned around, and pressed Rebecca against the wall. "Becca, I said I missed you and couldn't sleep, and you told me to meditate. Alex gets sick, I said I could handle it, and you rushed over right away. Becca, in your heart, I don't even compare to Alex, do I?"
Jealous of Alex, too?
Rebecca looked amused. "Frederick, you're already a grown man, and Alex is only five..."
"I don't care how old he is!"
Frederick pulled the struggling Rebecca into his arms. "Among the males in your heart, I can only accept being ranked after your dad, no one else!"
Alex was the one who was sick.
But looking at him now, why did Frederick seem to have more symptoms?
And he had a case of childishness!
Rebecca nodded with a smile. "Okay, okay, among the men in my heart, you're number two. Happy now?"
She thought Frederick would finally let her go.
Before Rebecca could stop smiling, Frederick picked her up. "Becca, how many men do you have in your heart in total?"
He looked like the sick one. Rebecca couldn't help but reach out to feel Frederick's forehead.
The temperature was normal.
Seeing him about to go upstairs to the bedroom, Rebecca called out softly, "Fevers can come back. Don't we need to stay and watch over Alex?"
"No need..."
Closing the door behind them, Frederick looked up to kiss her. "In a bit, I'll come down to check on him! Becca..."
His nose resting in the curve of Rebecca's neck, Frederick's voice was seductive. "You smell so good!"
She had taken a shower before curling up in bed to play games; of course, she smelled good.
But was that the point?
Something felt off, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
Frederick's kisses spread from her ear, and Rebecca gradually melted in his arms.
Rich sandalwood smell.
Light pear fragrance.
The two scents intertwined, lingering in the room for a long time without fading.
The second before falling into deep sleep, Rebecca said softly, "Frederick, remember to... go check..."
"Okay!"
A gentle kiss landed on her forehead, and Rebecca fell into a deep sleep.
When she opened her eyes in the morning and saw the bright sky outside the window, Rebecca finally realized what had felt off last night.
Although she had never taken care of a child, she had been a child herself!
When she was little, whether she was sick or had sprained her ankle from being naughty, her parents always stayed with her.
When she was half-asleep, she could always hear her parents urging each other to go rest, and then they'd come back and say gently: Becca, sleep well, Mom and Dad are here.
When she opened her eyes in the morning, someone else would be by the bed, and the air would be filled with the smell of a delicious breakfast.
Frederick wasn't an irresponsible person.
But when Alex was sick, he not only reassured her that they didn't need to stay and watch, but also coaxed and tricked her into bed over and over again.
Did that make sense?
Thinking that she might have been fooled by them working together, Rebecca was especially angry.
For a moment, she couldn't tell if she was angry about being tricked or angry at herself for being so stupid.
After quickly washing up and changing clothes, Rebecca stormed downstairs.
"Alright then, it's decided..."
In the dining room, Frederick's voice stopped. Watching Rebecca walk over slowly, her eyes dangerously examining him and Alex.
Turning back, Frederick fell silent.
