Chapter 186 I Miss You So Much
I slept deeply through the night.
At dawn, the faint aroma of pancakes drifted through the air. Rebecca opened her eyes to the familiar bed and familiar room, and for a moment, she felt like she'd gone back in time.
Without even bothering to wash up, Rebecca rushed out of her room, her face falling in disappointment.
The TV in the living room was off.
Dad, who should have been sitting on the sofa watching the morning news, wasn't there either.
The house was still the same—unchanged, yet emptier.
But she could never go back to the past, never return to the home where Dad was still around.
After standing there alone for quite a while, Rebecca snapped out of it, turned back to her room, washed up, changed clothes, and went downstairs to have breakfast with Alexa and Layla.
After breakfast, the Getty family's driver arrived. Rebecca said goodbye to the two and returned to school.
Starting Monday, finals officially began.
The entire campus seemed to have switched to silent mode. Teachers and students hurried everywhere, and even students reciting texts in corners didn't dare make a sound, murmuring in low voices.
The dining halls were much quieter, too.
By Wednesday, when exams ended, whether they'd done well or poorly, everyone looked cheerful.
When people ran into acquaintances, they'd immediately ask, "Where are you planning to go for the holidays?"
In dorm room 520, when Rebecca got back, Lucy was doing a thorough cleaning.
Seeing Rebecca roll up her sleeves to help, Lucy quickly stopped her. "Just go home. I can handle it. I've got nothing else to do anyway."
Rebecca paused. "You're not going home?"
Lucy shook her head. "Ryan and I agreed to go back once every two years. We went home last winter break, so we're not going this year. That's why we both lined up several tutoring jobs for winter break."
After working part-time for over two years, they both had steady clients who would call to book time slots before each holiday.
"Then come over to my place for dinner in a few days."
Just from Lucy's expression, Rebecca knew what she was about to say. Rebecca put her hands on her hips. "No refusing! Or we're done being friends!"
"Okay..."
Lucy nodded with a smile. "Thanks, Becca!"
Her phone dinged. Glancing at the screen, Rebecca waved at Lucy. "My boyfriend's here to pick me up, so I'm heading out. Eat the stuff in the fridge soon, and feel free to wear any clothes from my closet... Contact me on Facebook if you need anything!"
Before she finished speaking, she'd already disappeared into the elevator.
Lucy closed the door with a bright smile and continued mopping.
Rebecca ran out of the campus gate and immediately spotted the Maybach parked by the roadside.
Afraid he'd start with "Becca, did you miss me?", Rebecca decided to strike first.
She pulled open the passenger door and got in the car, beaming. "Frederick, I missed you so much."
Frederick froze for a moment, then a smile seeped from his eyes.
"Becca..."
He leaned over to fasten Rebecca's seatbelt, not forgetting to steal a kiss.
Frederick curved his lips. "Starting to miss me now? I'm afraid it's too late!"
From Sunday to Wednesday—four whole days. Worried about affecting her studying, he hadn't called or texted.
And her?
She really didn't call him once or send him a single message.
Because of this, he'd even asked Ethan how often he contacted Melissa when swamped with work.
Several days had passed, but thinking back on it now, Frederick still remembered Ethan's explosive response.
