Chapter 183 This Is Also My Home
The Getty family and the Windsor family had never crossed paths before. Alexa had only run into Frederick a few times when visiting the Johnson family.
At first, she only knew he was Jennifer's cousin - aloof and hard to approach.
Then, just a few years after returning from studying abroad, he rose to power with an iron fist and became the head of the Windsor Group, turning into the untouchable Mr. Windsor in Empire City's elite circles.
Alexa felt even more distant from him after that.
Surprisingly, Frederick was actually very easy to talk to in private, despite his cool demeanor.
Completely different from the cold and ruthless Mr. Windsor everyone talked about.
"Come on in and sit down..."
As she greeted him, Alexa noticed Frederick's gaze lingering on Rebecca. She pointed at Rebecca and introduced her: "Frederick, this is Becca. You met her a few times at the Johnson family's place when you were kids, remember?"
"I remember."
Frederick nodded, then looked at Rebecca again, his eyes full of amusement.
Rebecca fell silent.
"Layla, I'll go make coffee. You wash some fruit... Becca, you keep Frederick company."
Alexa pulled Layla away to get busy.
Mike left after dropping off his things.
The living room quieted down. Their eyes met, and they spoke at the same time: "What are you doing here?"
Rebecca raised an eyebrow. "This is my home. Why can't I be here?"
"This is my mother-in-law's house!"
Frederick smiled warmly. "And my wife's home. My wife's home is my home. Why can't I be here? Besides, my mother-in-law just got discharged from the hospital today. Shouldn't I come visit?"
Hearing him say "mother-in-law" and "wife" over and over, afraid Alexa might hear, Rebecca rushed to cover his mouth.
Frederick caught her hand and kissed it in his palm.
Rebecca sprang up from the sofa like a jack-in-the-box and went to sit far away from Frederick.
Alexa came out with coffee and immediately noticed Frederick sitting at one end of the sofa and Rebecca at the other end.
She handed the black coffee to Frederick.
The regular coffee to Rebecca.
Alexa looked up at Frederick and asked, "Frederick, when did Jennifer and her family move? I remember her saying she liked living here and wasn't planning to move."
Dennis's mother, Jennifer, was Frederick's half-sister from the same father.
When Frederick was a teenager, the Johnson family looked down on him. They thought that with his father dead and his mother absent, plus his withdrawn personality, he'd end up just collecting dividends from the Windsor family and living as a spoiled playboy.
Because of this, Jennifer's husband, Landon Johnson, never thought about building a good relationship with Frederick.
Instead, he got close to Jasper from the Windsor family.
But no one expected Jasper to die young.
And Frederick took over the Windsor Group, eventually becoming the youngest head of the Windsor family.
Landon deeply regretted it.
But by the time he wanted to cozy up to Frederick, it was too late!
"There's a new development that just opened, owned by the Johnson family. They moved there."
Glancing at Rebecca, Frederick lied without batting an eye.
"I see..."
Alexa responded and grabbed her phone. "Jennifer really should have told me about something this big. I need to ask her..."
Seeing her mom open Facebook to make a video call, Rebecca jumped up anxiously.
Before her hand could reach out, she saw Frederick shake his head at her.
The phone rang for a long time with no answer. Alexa hung up and turned to Frederick. "Frederick, stay for dinner, okay?"
Only then did she realize it was already evening. Rebecca quickly turned to give Frederick a look.
Frederick nodded.
Rebecca felt relieved.
Then she saw Frederick look at Alexa with a gentle expression. "Sure. Thank you!"
"Layla, I'll make the steak myself..."
Alexa responded happily and headed to the kitchen.
Rebecca huffed over to confront Frederick, but just as she got close, Frederick pulled her into his arms.
