Chapter 167 Stay Away from Me
"Beg you?"
Rebecca stepped back a few paces, her voice growing colder along with her expression.
For a moment, Dennis felt like he saw Frederick's shadow in Rebecca.
The second that thought popped into his head, Dennis's face looked even worse.
Looking up again, he saw Rebecca say coldly, "Stay away from me! Don't come to the hospital again, and don't appear in front of my mother!"
Word by word, Rebecca spoke with exceptional clarity and force, "Otherwise, I don't mind letting Frederick know how you spoke rudely to my mother. If I can't teach you a lesson, Frederick and your parents surely can, right?"
With each sentence Rebecca spoke, Dennis's expression grew uglier.
By the time Rebecca finished, Dennis's face had lost all color.
Rebecca turned and walked away.
The corridor fell quiet. Dennis stared crazily at the spot where Rebecca had disappeared for a long time before finally turning to leave.
In the hospital room, Alexa saw Rebecca return alone without Dennis behind her.
She paused, studying Rebecca's expression. "Becca, did you make things clear with Dennis? Where is he?"
"All cleared up!"
Rebecca nodded, walked to the table, and tossed the ugly apple Dennis had peeled into the trash, then started peeling an orange for Alexa. "Mom, didn't you say yourself that I'm all grown up now? Things between him and me, we'll handle ourselves. You don't need to worry about it, okay?"
"...Okay."
Alexa hesitated before responding. After a long while, she said with low spirits, "I just don't know when your father will come back."
Rebecca's hands paused. A thin white thread broke away from the orange peel.
Rebecca's breath caught.
Before the Getty Group went bankrupt, it had just started expanding its overseas business. Henry Getty had pointed ambitiously at the Getty Group's blueprint and said: Becca, look, this is what Mom and Dad have saved up for you!
For this, the middle-aged Henry, already 50 years old, had summoned the drive of his youth, staying up until one or two in the morning every night, finishing meetings with overseas executives and sales staff before resting.
When warmth rose in the corners of her eyes, Rebecca abruptly stopped that train of thought and handed the peeled orange to Alexa. "Didn't Dad tell you? Once everything in the overseas market is settled and running smoothly, he'll come back."
"That'll be such a long time..."
Alexa looked dejected. "Ah, it's all my fault. If I hadn't gotten sick, I could have gone with your father."
"Mom..."
Rebecca's face showed disapproval. "Taking care of your health is more important than anything!"
"Okay."
Alexa responded, glanced at the wall clock, and urged Rebecca repeatedly, "You should head back to your dorm. Tell the driver to drive slowly!"
As she spoke, Alexa looked under her pillow, then pulled open the bedside drawer, casually instructing Rebecca, "Tell Layla to bring my phone tomorrow. I want to video call your father and see him... Without me there, he's definitely not eating on time again. I wonder if his stomach has been hurting lately... I packed his suitcase, right? It must have been me, so I packed his stomach medicine..."
Even after closing the door, Rebecca could still hear Alexa's murmuring from inside the room. Rebecca's tears suddenly fell.
It seemed like she couldn't keep hiding it much longer!
What should she do?
Outside the window in the endless night, traffic flowed endlessly. Individual points of light moved from near to far, then disappeared into the ink-like darkness, never to be seen again.
Rebecca stood by the window in a daze for a long time before finally turning to leave.
The instant the elevator doors closed, another elevator on the other side opened, and Frederick strode out quickly.
