Chapter 143 The Soul-stealing Temptress
Rebecca opened her mouth, but the words on the tip of her tongue were all driven back by her burning cheeks and racing heartbeat.
Frederick's body was scorching hot like a branding iron, pressed tightly against her back, making even the tip of her nose break out in sweat.
The arm wrapped around her waist held her so tightly it felt like it might snap her in two.
What was even more unbearable was his restrained breathing sweeping across the hollow of her neck, sending tingles wherever it touched.
Rebecca didn't dare move a muscle.
After what felt like forever, his heavy breathing gradually calmed down.
Frederick loosened his arm a bit and lowered his head to kiss her back. "Be good and go to sleep..."
"Okay."
She responded softly, and in the darkness, Rebecca's eyes flickered.
Every night since they got married, whether just falling asleep or waking up early, she could clearly feel Frederick's desire each time.
She used to think he was keeping himself in check because he still had feelings for Alex's mom.
But now that the misunderstanding was cleared up, he still restrained himself.
Rebecca really couldn't figure out why.
Or maybe he had some other unspeakable difficulty?
Her mind wandered aimlessly until she forgot what she was even thinking about, left only with one clear goal.
Whether for herself or for Isabella, she needed to hold tight to Frederick's coattails.
As she drifted off to sleep, Rebecca's body gradually relaxed.
Behind her, Frederick let out a long, quiet sigh.
He had thought working from home would be no different from going to the office, but now it seemed there was quite a difference.
At least the office didn't have a soul-stealing temptress.
While at home, she was constantly testing his self-control.
When the sky was just starting to lighten, Rebecca heard some rustling sounds. Before she could open her eyes, a cool kiss landed on her forehead. "Becca, I'm going to the office. Be good at home."
Rebecca couldn't remember if she responded or not. The dim light instantly turned pitch black, and she drifted back to sleep in a daze.
When she woke up again, it was almost noon.
She read some books and caught up on the coursework she'd missed while sick.
Then she followed the delicious smells to the dining room to enjoy the food Layla had carefully prepared.
In between, she chatted with Isabella and discussed where to go for the upcoming weekend.
In the evening, Rebecca got a call from Frederick.
"Becca, are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"
"I feel great."
"Then I'll have Mike pick you up."
"Okay... should I dress up nice?"
"You're already beautiful, you don't need to dress up. It's just the two of us, we'll have dinner and come back."
"Okay."
Knowing Frederick wanted to make up for the candlelit dinner they missed on Christmas Eve, Rebecca rushed upstairs to change and put on some light makeup.
Mike was already waiting at the villa entrance.
After picking up Rebecca, the car drove straight out.
Empire City's busy shopping centers and streets were decorated beautifully, looking especially charming in the night.
The car entered the underground parking garage of a mall. Mike pressed the elevator button and pointed to the jewelry store on the 16th floor. "Mrs. Windsor, please wait at Forever for a moment. Mr. Windsor should be here soon."
"Okay."
Rebecca's eyes lit up as they swept over the Forever logo.
Forever was Empire City's most luxurious jewelry store, an international high-end brand.
High luxury and beauty were Forever's biggest selling points, but beyond that, their jewelry also had investment value, just like their handbags—timeless classics.
Rebecca studied jewelry design, and her dream used to be to work in the design department of a jewelry company like Forever after graduation.
She would have been happy even as just a small design assistant.
But now, this dream was probably going to fall apart.
