Chapter 131 Unable to Suppress the Anger

Chapter 131 Unable to Suppress the Anger

At noon, music would play from the direction of the Ferris wheel to mark the hour.

Alex had just turned around after taking the grilled sausage from the convenience store owner when he heard the music. He panicked instantly.

If he rushed to Empire University now, he'd be late.

If he couldn't meet Rebecca, Frederick wouldn't know he was at the amusement park. His family would go crazy looking for him, wouldn't they?

But Alex only panicked for a moment before calming down. He turned and ran straight to the service desk at the amusement park's main entrance.

He'd find a staff member and tell them he got separated from his parents. They'd call Frederick.

Sure, he'd probably get a serious scolding later, but whose fault was it that he miscalculated?

No big deal. He'd know better next time!

Before Alex could wait for the staff member at the service desk to return from lunch, Mike found him with the bodyguards.

When they brought him to the frozen lake, he saw Frederick carrying Rebecca into an ambulance.

Rebecca was soaking wet, eyes closed, without a trace of life in her.

Also being taken to the hospital was a little boy who had nearly drowned.

Looking at the boy's clothes, then down at his own, Alex immediately understood what had happened.

He'd gotten lost once before, when his mom was still around.

He'd been right there, just looked down at the fish for a moment, and mom was gone.

When mom came back, she grabbed him, crying and yelling, asking why he ran off, why he tortured her like this, what she'd done wrong for God to punish her this way.

All the adults around were comforting mom, and a kind old lady patted his head, telling him to be good and not run off.

That lady also said he was Mom's treasure, and if he got lost, Mom would go crazy.

But he hadn't run off at all.

Yet this time, when he actually did run off, Rebecca thanked him!

Tears rolled down in big drops. Alex hugged Rebecca and cried his heart out.

Rebecca's eyes also filled with tears as she shot Frederick a resentful glare.

Understanding what Rebecca's eyes were saying, Frederick fell silent.

Hurt feelings need to be let out.

And crying is a good way to let them out.

Without comforting or stopping him, Rebecca held Alex and gently patted his back.

She waited until Alex's sobs gradually quieted down before wiping his tears and saying, "Tomorrow's Christmas. Let's go to the amusement park and get grilled sausages. How about it?"

Alex nodded.

Rebecca ruffled his hair. "But you have to promise me one thing."

Alex nodded hard.

Rebecca smiled. "From now on, when you want to go somewhere, tell your family. Don't run off on your own, okay?"

Sniffling, Alex nodded and nestled into Rebecca's arms like a puppy.

The anger in Frederick's eyes was barely contained.

Running off on his own had caused serious consequences, and he hadn't properly dealt with him yet.

Now, after crying for ages, he was playing the victim with Becca?

"Mike!"

"Yes!"

"Take him home to bed."

"...Yes!"

Mike nodded. Alex glanced at Frederick's dark expression, knowing he'd crossed his line one too many times, and quickly slid off the bed.

His eyes full of concern, Alex held Mike's hand and waved at her as they walked out.

Rebecca smiled. "See you tomorrow!"

The hospital room door closed, and silence instantly filled the space.

Oppressive air pressed in from all sides. Rebecca shrank back a bit and looked at Frederick's dark expression. "Frederick, don't be angry anymore. I'm sorry..."

"Sorry for what?"

Frederick stepped forward and looked directly into her eyes.

"Sorry for making you worry. But I didn't have time to call you right then..."

Thinking back to that moment, she couldn't find anything to feel guilty about. Rebecca lifted her head and looked at him. "It was because he's your son. If it were someone else, I wouldn't... no wait, even if it were someone else, I would've saved them too."

After all, she happened to be there.

Plus, she knew how to swim.

Before her scattered thoughts could come back together, Frederick's dark voice sounded in her ear. "Who told you he's my son?"

Rebecca's eyes went wide.
