Chapter 130 Everything Is Going According to Plan
Rebecca dreamed she had turned into a light, delicate strand of seaweed.
Floating, swaying, drifting down slowly toward the deep ocean floor.
In the distance, it seemed like sirens were singing—ethereal and haunting, incredibly beautiful.
The ocean floor wasn't cold at all. Instead, it felt especially warm, as if sunlight was filtering through the shimmering water surface, gently wrapping around her body. She felt incredibly comfortable.
When she opened her eyes again, the ceiling above was a dense white like clouds.
The beeping of medical equipment pulled her thoughts back. Rebecca turned her head and saw Frederick sitting in the chair by the window.
Outside, the night was deep and dark.
A vast blackness spread across the sky, yet it couldn't match the gloomy, hostile aura emanating from Frederick.
Even in sleep, Frederick's brow was marked with restrained anger, making his entire face look especially cold and piercing.
Knowing that what happened at noon had scared him, Rebecca instinctively softened her breathing.
Frederick seemed to sense it and suddenly looked up.
"Becca..."
The gloom vanished. Frederick stood up and came over, checking Rebecca's forehead, then touching her face, before turning on the bedside indicator light.
The doctors and nurses arrived quickly.
Rebecca immediately spotted the small figure huddled in the corner outside the door.
Pressed against the wall, Alex had his lips pressed together, his eyes anxious and uncertain.
Rebecca smiled and reached out to wave at him, "Come here..."
Alex didn't move, looking anxiously at Frederick instead.
The doctor took Rebecca's blood pressure, the nurse checked her temperature, and they recorded the monitoring data from the equipment.
When the doctor finally said Rebecca was fine, the group quietly left.
Rebecca looked up at Frederick, "Frederick, I'm okay now. I'd like to talk to Alex, is that alright?"
Frederick nodded, "Okay!"
Rebecca turned and waved at Alex, "Alex, come here..."
Mike gave Alex a little push. Alex hesitated, then slowly walked to the bedside.
His dark, deep eyes were filled with unease and guilt.
Rebecca sat up and patted the space beside her on the bed, "Come up..."
Alex looked back at Frederick again.
Knowing that something like getting lost had happened, Frederick must have scolded Alex, maybe even gotten really angry with him.
Rebecca smiled and pinched Alex's cheek.
Frederick stood up, adjusted the touch screen to raise the hospital bed, then picked up Alex like a little chick and placed him on the bed.
"Alex, thank you!"
Alex had just settled down when Rebecca pulled him into a hug.
Alex's body stiffened, and his eyes immediately turned red.
He looked like he'd suffered some terrible injustice.
Frederick looked confused.
If Alex hadn't run off, Becca wouldn't have gone to the amusement park to look for him.
And then she wouldn't have been misled, thinking it was Alex who had fallen into the water, diving headfirst into the frozen lake without a second thought.
Yet she was saying thank you to him?
And Alex, who had done something wrong, actually looked aggrieved?
Rebecca's face wore a gentle smile, "You remembered what I said—that the grilled sausages at the amusement park are the best. So you wanted to go buy sausages and then come find me at Empire University to surprise me, right?"
Pressing his lips together, he nodded, but tears came streaming down.
Alex hugged Rebecca and suddenly burst into loud sobs.
Originally, everything had been going according to plan.
Sneak out of the house at 10, arrive at the amusement park at 11:30.
Buy the sausages and then get to Empire University, arriving just in time to wait for Rebecca at the entrance of Star Apartments.
By that time, the butler would have already searched the old mansion from top to bottom and would be frantically calling Frederick for help.
Then he'd receive Rebecca's call saying Alex was with her.
Perfect timing.
For this plan, Alex had studied the satellite map thoroughly.
He knew which bus to take from the alley entrance near the old mansion.
He knew the sausage stand was at the small shop near the Frog Jump ride.
He even knew what kind of people to follow onto the bus so the driver and other passengers wouldn't notice he was alone.
Alex had calculated everything—except for the traffic accident on the road that left the bus stuck in traffic for over ten minutes.
