Chapter 126 Becca, Did You Miss Me
As Christmas approached, the holiday atmosphere on campus grew stronger and stronger.
All the clubs were putting their hearts into organizing Christmas dances, hoping to use the holiday to showcase their advantages and make recruiting new members easier next year.
Around campus, outside the dining hall, in front of the library...
Even when going to the convenience store to buy a bottle of water, Rebecca would be stopped by enthusiastic upperclassmen and underclassmen, "Rebecca, Rebecca, come to our club's Christmas party!"
Rebecca politely declined with a smile.
Tomorrow was Christmas Eve.
The day after, Saturday, was Christmas.
She had already promised Alex that she would go to the old mansion to see him on Friday.
She had already disappointed him last weekend, so this weekend she absolutely couldn't break her promise.
Looking up at the sky that had started snowing again, Rebecca pulled up her hood, put it on, and jogged all the way back to her dorm.
Lucy had already cooked the pasta.
Ryan had his sleeves rolled up, washing dishes in the sink on the balcony.
Rebecca pushed the door open and was greeted by delicious aromas.
Since moving to Star Apartments, Ryan had become a regular visitor.
Sometimes he'd bring fruit, sometimes Rebecca and Lucy would make dinner, and Frederick would have extra food sent over that they couldn't finish, so they'd call him to eat.
When cooking, Lucy was the head chef, and Ryan was her assistant.
When cleaning up after meals, Ryan would insist that since he was the one who had eaten, he should do it.
As a result, Rebecca, who hadn't done much housework to begin with, didn't have to lift a finger anymore.
At first, she joked that she felt a bit unnecessary, but later on, Lucy and Ryan both looked after her, and when Rebecca spoke up, it became like a family of three.
It felt oddly out of place, yet somehow harmonious at the same time.
"Christmas is the most romantic holiday of the year besides Valentine's Day. What are you two planning for this weekend?"
Rebecca asked while eating.
They were all poor students, so fancy places like coffee shops and concert halls weren't right for them.
Going to see a movie would end too late for them to get back.
Lucy was fine - graduate student dorms didn't have lights-out or locked doors, but if Ryan couldn't get back before 11:30, he'd really have nowhere to go.
In this cold weather, how could Lucy bear to let Ryan freeze?
"Probably... a date at the library."
Lucy said with a smile.
Ryan looked up at Lucy, seeming like he wanted to say something, but in the end said nothing and put a piece of sausage she liked on her plate.
Rebecca nodded with starry eyes, "As expected, even the romance of top students is so touching!"
Lucy asked back, "What about you? Where are you planning to go to be romantic with your boyfriend?"
"I've got it rough!"
With a tone of complaint but an expression of undeniable joy, Rebecca said, "I have to go to my boyfriend's house to babysit!"
"That's nice..."
Lucy grinned mischievously, "Think of it as getting some practice in advance. When you two get married and have kids, you'll know what to do."
Rebecca fell silent.
After dinner, Ryan cleaned up as usual, while Rebecca and Lucy stood by the window with cups of juice, admiring the snow.
Her phone vibrated. Knowing Frederick had sent her a message, Rebecca curled up in the bean bag chair with her phone.
[Becca, did you miss me?]
[...Yeah, I did.]
[Doesn't seem sincere. If you really missed me, why would you wait for me to ask? Liar!]
Rebecca washed up, Frederick went to shower.
Rebecca said goodnight, Frederick said see you tomorrow.
When Rebecca woke up, she found she was still holding her phone, with Frederick's late-night message "Becca, I miss you so much" still on the screen.
She couldn't help but blush. Rebecca bit her lip, deleted the "I miss you too" she had typed out, and simply put away her phone.
After two classes, Rebecca rushed back to the apartment to drop off her backpack and pack the books and homework she needed for the weekend.
Before she could call to ask Frederick when he was coming to pick her up, the phone rang.
"Frederick, you..." Where are you?
Before Rebecca could finish asking, she heard Frederick's voice on the other end, sounding serious, "Becca, has Alex called you?"
"No..."
Rebecca was startled, "What's wrong?"
"Alex is missing!"
With those words from Frederick, Rebecca's heart jumped into her throat.
