Chapter 106 Not Afraid
Behind Rebecca, Melissa's eyes sparkled with laughter. "I never knew you were such a good card player, Becca!"
Rebecca smiled shyly.
When she was little, she was the leader of the kids, organizing games for everyone.
When she grew up, whenever guests came over, and someone needed to use the bathroom or take a phone call during card games, she would fill in.
Over time, she got pretty good at it.
Rebecca stood up to give her seat back to Frederick. "You guys play. Melissa and I will hang out!"
"We're done playing!"
His gaze swept over Rebecca's dark circles under her eyes. Knowing she hadn't slept well all week, Frederick said firmly, "It's late. We're heading home!"
With that, Frederick went straight to the coat rack, grabbed Rebecca's down jacket, and helped her put it on.
"Frederick, that's not fair... Last time when Rebecca wasn't here, you wanted to go home at 11, fine. But today Rebecca's here, and you're rushing to leave so early..."
Before Peter could finish his teasing, his eyes landed on Rebecca, and he instantly understood. "Never mind, you two take your time leaving!"
Rebecca hadn't thought much of it at first, but when Peter made that turn in his comment, she belatedly realized what he was implying, and her face flushed bright red.
"Becca, check for our wedding gift!"
"Becca, Ethan and I left ours in your car."
Facing Benjamin and the others' smiling faces, Rebecca nodded. When she turned around, she buried her face right into Frederick's chest as he was putting on his coat.
Laughter erupted behind her. Rebecca didn't dare look back and let Frederick guide her out of the private room.
As the car pulled out of the parking lot, the heat in her face gradually faded.
But when she saw the night scene outside the window, Rebecca's briefly relaxed mood tensed up again.
Frederick had said he wouldn't force her.
But Melissa had mentioned that over the past five years, no woman had appeared around Frederick.
Whether he was staying faithful to Alex's mother.
Or simply keeping himself pure.
His past restraint was real.
And she, as Mrs. Windsor, had certain obligations to fulfill. Otherwise, if the big Mr. Windsor became dissatisfied, it would be the employees below who'd suffer.
Thinking this way, Rebecca suddenly felt the night wasn't so scary anymore.
Just like Izzy said, she and Frederick were already legally married. There was nothing to be afraid of.
Having mentally prepared herself, when Rebecca opened her closet again, she chose a sheer nightgown.
Even so, after showering and changing into the nightgown, looking at herself in the mirror with her hair down and flushed cheeks, Rebecca still couldn't help trembling slightly.
Frederick knew something was off the moment he got into bed.
Usually, Rebecca would lie with her back to him, afraid of meeting his eyes or having him say something to her.
But today, she was lying flat on her back, her body under the covers, tense as a board.
Knowing what she was afraid of, Frederick sighed deeply to himself.
He reached out and pulled her into his arms. The words "go to sleep" were just about to leave his lips when suddenly his breath caught.
