Chapter 100 Wedding Gift
Rebecca had just walked out of the classroom when her phone rang.
It was from Frederick. [I'm waiting for you at the east gate.]
She ran all the way back to her dorm to drop off her backpack, then sent a Facebook message to Lucy, telling her to hurry up and finish all the yogurt and fruit in the fridge over the weekend—she'd bring fresh ones back.
When Rebecca got to the school gate, she spotted the familiar black Maybach in its usual spot.
Rebecca instinctively looked around in all directions.
Seeing no one was paying attention to her, she jogged over and got in the car.
"Why did you come? Aren't you working this afternoon?"
As she asked casually, Rebecca looked back at the empty rear compartment. "Where's Alex?"
Frederick paused.
Sunday night, right after Rebecca went back to school, Alex said he wanted to go back to the old mansion.
After driving Alex all the way there and heading back to Pinewood Mansion, Frederick sensed something was off.
So Alex came to Pinewood Mansion purely because of Rebecca?
When he called to confirm, sure enough, Alex admitted it somewhat sheepishly.
Frederick's feelings were a bit complicated.
On one hand, he thought Becca was still as good with kids as before.
On the other hand, maybe Alex wasn't as afraid of strangers as he'd thought.
The specialist said he had autistic tendencies and should avoid contact with strangers or unfamiliar environments.
But Becca took him to the amusement park, and didn't he have a great time?
Didn't this mean Alex might not actually be sick at all?
Meeting Rebecca's questioning gaze, Frederick asked, "He went back to the old mansion. Want to pick him up?"
"Yes!"
Rebecca nodded without hesitation.
Frederick's eyes narrowed slightly, then he changed his mind. "Peter and the others arranged dinner tonight. Alex definitely won't go, so should we leave him home alone?"
Rebecca paused. "Then, how about we pick him up tomorrow?"
Frederick nodded good-naturedly. "Sure."
As the car started, Frederick picked up his phone and sent Peter a message.
In a few sentences, he confirmed the dinner time.
For lunch, Frederick took Rebecca to her favorite restaurant.
Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, the sky was crystal clear with white clouds drifting lazily.
Before him, Rebecca, bathed in golden light, was looking at the menu with a bright smile.
Frederick looked away and leaned back lazily against the sofa.
After lunch, on the way back to Pinewood Mansion, Rebecca started getting nervous almost as soon as the car started moving.
Originally, she could have come back to eat Layla's feast and take a long nap wrapped in her blanket.
Now going back, she'd obviously be alone with Frederick.
Nothing to talk about.
Nothing to do.
Were they just going to stare at each other?
She should have never told him she had no classes Friday afternoon—she could have gone shopping with Izzy or something.
Just looking at Rebecca's distracted expression, Frederick knew what she was thinking. A flash of amusement crossed his eyes.
The car entered Pinewood Mansion and drove straight into the underground garage.
As the lights came on, at the end of a row of black luxury cars, Rebecca immediately spotted the white and red Ferraris.
Rebecca froze.
Frederick's voice sounded in her ear. "A gift from Peter."
Such a grand gesture?
Rebecca looked surprised. "At the ski resort, it was Azalea and her group causing trouble. It didn't have much to do with Mr. Green anyway. And why send two?"
"One to apologize, one as a wedding gift."
Frederick ruffled Rebecca's hair.
