Chapter 325 Coming to a head
Chapter 325 Coming to a head
“For the most part, if you were king, the kingdom would be turning black,” Aarmeris told him with a chuckle. “Maeve is going to see her aunt.”
“Great, just great.” Aarshon glared at the floor. “Ailive isn’t herself, Lindaat isn’t waking up. Xylia is missing again. Lucian is still being weird. What the fuck!”
Aarshon decided he needed to clear his mind, so he went for a walk, ending up in the garden. The one place that he knew Lindaat loved to be. He sat on the bench, looking at the flowers that grew here. She had taken care of the flowers. As he looked around, he let his mind wander.
How had he let his daughters get hurt? Let his wife get so upset? Piss off his mother? Something was bugging him, and it wasn’t just that he had said the wrong thing. His family was falling apart, and it wasn’t right. Maybe they needed some time to relax. A vacation, maybe? That seemed like a strange thing to think.
As he sat thinking, his mind started to clear. He thought of Nix and all the things she had gone through lately. Maybe he should take her on a trip! Just the two of them. This was all going to hell, and Aarshon had no idea how he had ended up in the hole so deep. He looked up when someone entered the garden.
“I heard you were in the doghouse.” Telraamon told him with a chuckle.
“Word spreads in this family pretty fast,” Aarshon told him with a smile. “How is Lindaat?”
“No real change, she just lies in the bed glowing like she is a light. Her hair has started to go white.” Telraamon sighed as he looked at the plants in the room.
“The crystal took the cost from her; it doesn’t make any sense to me. Lindaat didn’t have anything to do with any of it.” Aarshon looked up to Telraamon to see that he was worried about Lindaat.
“It didn’t matter who was involved in the rescue. The crystal would go after the strongest-willed. Lindaat was that person, other than you. You are older than her, so it couldn’t really get the price out of you. Not like it can with her.” Telraamon sighed as he turned to look at Aarshon.
“You have a thought on what the price is?” Aarshon guessed, not wanting to know the price.
“I have an idea, but with Xylia gone. It is going to be worse to tell you, and Nix,” Telraamon said with a sigh.
“Why?” Aarshon glared at the young elf.
“It isn’t her life, I can tell you that much. The goddess wouldn’t have that. I can tell you that much. The Goddess isn’t happy with this turn of events. I wouldn’t be shocked if she showed up at some point.” Telraamon looked up at the ceiling to see the painting. The stars and moon were there, almost like the real night sky. The clouds were moving in and out of the room. Magic, it would always amaze him.
“Well, you might want to spit it out,” Aarshon told him, then thought about Nix. “Never mind, Nix will want to hear this.”
“I don’t think she will,” Telraamon told him, then looked to the ground, not wanting to meet his eyes.
“Why?” Aarshon stood, closing the space between the two of them. “Tell me what you think is happening to my daughter.”
“Aarshon Elsprie, you have been raised better than to attack a man who is trying to give you news that isn’t his to give.” The Goddess told him as she appeared in the garden.
Aarshon spun to see her standing on the stone path, looking at him. He didn’t know if he should bow or be pissed off at her. When he looked at her, he loved her, but his heart broke for his children and sister. Her golden hair was flowing down her shoulders, shining like the sun. The rose gown seemed to float above the ground, showing just hints of her feet.
“I was taught better, but this is my children he is talking about, and I have lost my mind a little over them. Then my sister has been through hell.” Aarshon bowed his head. “I beg you to forgive me for my misdeed.”
“In your long life, you have not had many misdeeds. This one is small, and I shall overlook it. Telraamon was going to tell you that Lindaat is taking on a horrible price that she wasn’t meant to take on. Ailive is back with your family. Xylia doesn’t feel like she belongs with you, and that is the family's fault. All of you should be ashamed of yourselves for the way you have treated her.
As for Lindaat, she will be going through some changes as Telraamon has already started to see. A few will take longer than others, and she can’t leave the realm for a while. Nix should stay away from her for a while. This is due to a certain problem that I can’t tell you about for now. This is also due to Nix. She would never understand what is going to happen and will have to happen.”
“I understand what you will do, what is right, but Goddess understand that Nix will not like leaving her daughter sick and alone,” Aarshon told her with tears in his eyes.
“I know, it is why I am going to put the thought in her mind that you two are going on a wonderful trip to try to expand your family.” The goddess told him with a smile.
“WHAT!?!?!” Aarshon yelled as he looked up at her. “We can’t, that isn’t possible.”
“Aarshon, how many times do I have to tell you that anything is possible?” The goddess glared at him for yelling at her yet again.
Aarshon heard Telraamon laughing behind him. He turned to glare at him. Then laughed with him.
“If that is what would make her happy, then so be it, but if the child is fae, it will break Nix,” Aarshon explained with sadness in his eyes.
“This I already know.” The goddess told him with a slight smile. She sighed because this was going to be a big mess soon.“I will have to speak to her goddess for that one.”
Aarshon sighed and wanted to go back and save his sister.
“Xylia needs her family. Everyone needs to get over what happened. It wasn’t her doing. Also, suggest to Nix that she give the little hag to Brigid.” The Goddess smiled down at him. “Aarshon, I know your family has been through so much, but this isn’t over. Lindaat is so strong, and that is why the spell backfired at her.”
Aarshon nodded as he watched her, then sighed how he could explain any of this to Nix. She was pissed off at him right now. As the goddess disappeared from the garden, he sat down again. The truth was she had told him nothing, and he didn’t like that at all. Xylia had done something horrible, and she was right that she had no choice.
