Chapter 180 Bullseye - Caroline POV
Benedict has been absent. Of course, he's always absent, but he's been around more ever since he was no longer in office. For some reason, he hasn't left for California either, much to my dismay. I wanted to get into Samuel's bedroom, see what the hell the old cow might have hidden there, just out of curiosity of course. He always kept his door locked, even on the rare occasion that he wasn't home, and the rest of the staff were fiercely loyal to him.
I always wondered why in the world didn't he try to have his own family, and not be as obsessed with another's that weren't even his own.
I'm diligently scouring the news, checking if there aren't any news or sightings of Madison again, but so far nothing else has come up apart from more speculations of who the father of her unborn baby might be.
My phone starts ringing, and I'm surprsied to see that it's Louise, one of the women I was on the board of a charity with. The same woman who sent me an email to tell me that I was no longer needed on the board since.
"Louise." I answer as the classy woman that I am. "It's so good to hear from you."
"Caroline!" She sounds chirpy on the other side, even though I know it's all for pretense. "I was just wondering how you were holding up with all these things in the press again."
I frown, not knowing what the hell this woman is on about. I was literally just checking if something of Madison didn't come up.
"You haven't heard?" She gasps. "Oh dear, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but they found Jeffrey Bloomberg's body this morning in his bedroom. Suicide. So similar to what happened to Ben, I thought I should call you and check up on you."
A smile break out on my face, victory dancing in my veins. He did it. He caught on and he went and commited suicide, and in the same way Ben did too.
It's like killing two birds with one stone. I get my revenge on him for selling Ben out and I keep his mouth shut. There will be no trial if he's dead. Katherine's murder would be closed, and nobody gets to bad mouth my little boy anymore.
"No!" I gasp, the smile still present on my face. "That is terrible, terrible news! I have to call Mary and ask her how she's holding up."
"Yes, you do that, especially since you know how it must feel." This bitch sounds more condescending than remorseful, but I'm glad she called me and gave me all the intel.
"Thank you so much for the call, Louise, I hope we can have lunch soon."
"That would be lovely." She lies. "We should forget about the past and move on."
This woman literally threw me out of an organization I was a part of for years, and now she's telling me I should forgive and forget. Forgive and forget is not part of my vocabulary. Revenge and destroy are..Maybe I should get her back by exposing her husband sleeping with prostitutes. That ought to do the trick.
Jeffrey Bloomberg is dead. Exactly what I wanted.
I go to my closet and get the list, crossing out his name. Five names remain, the last three might be harder to kill than the first three, but I will do anything in my arsenal so that they don't breathe anymore.
I go downstairs with a spring in my step, ecstatic that things are going exactly how I want them to. Ben should have confided in me a long time ago, I clearly have all the plans. And who will suspect a grieving mother?
Nobody.
I corner one of the maids working in the kitchen when I once again don't see my husband around. "Have you by any chance seen Mr. Cargill? Has he been down for breakfast yet?"
"He hasn't had breakfast Mrs. Cargill, but he spent the whole night cleaning out Samuel's closet, and then he left early in the morning."
I frown, thinking that is a very odd thing to do, Why would he clean the room himself when there are people to do it for him? And the whole night, too? He didn't even spend that much time in Ben's bedroom after he died.
I go to Samuel's bedroom, my confusion amplified when I open up the closet and drawers. Everything looks the same in here, Samuel's clothes hung neatly, and his drawers immaculate. What is it that Benedict cleaned out then? And where the hell did he go?
I call his secretary, who l know is still working in the office, asking her if Benedict is already in since I didn't catch him at breakfast.
She tells m that he hasn't come in yet, but that he left her a message to cancel all his meetings for the day.
What the hell does that even mean?
What did he find in Samuel's room?
And where did he go?
