CHAPTER 49

CHAPTER 49
Sara clenched her jaw and glared at his retreating back, feeling the strong urge to hurl something at him. She tugged at the cuffs, huffing when they didn’t bulge. "Adrain, you can’t leave me like this.” He chuckled but didn’t look back at her, and she groaned, whimpering when the cuffs cut her flesh. She cried in pain when she tugged her skin free and leaned closer to massage the spot. This action only caused the cuffs to tighten around her wrists.

He looked up then and frowned, looking at her hands and then at her face. “I have told you it is useless to keep protesting; you can’t get away from me.” Did he want an apology? Is that why he was doing this? Sara admitted she did owe him a lot after he saved her life tonight, not once but twice. With that cooked-up story, he told his father just to spare her neck. Would he uncuff her if she apologized sincerely? It was worth the shot.

“Fine, I was stupid, okay, but please just uncuff me. Please.” She cried out in frustration and glared at him when he chuckled. Was he making fun of her? “Goodnight pumpkin.” He whispered, still not turning back to look at her, and she screamed. “I give you my word, Adrain; I won’t try to escape, please. You can even lock me inside the room if that makes you feel better, but I promise I won’t.”

Adrain shook his head and dipped his hands in his pocket, pacing around. He stopped and stared at her, his face hard and devoid of any kind of emotion. She couldn’t tell what he was thinking whenever he made this face, and that was probably why he kept that face a lot. “Your word means nothing to me, Sara.” He turned to leave again, and she panicked.

‘No, he can’t leave me here like this.’ Sara thought, shivering. “I’m sorry, Adrain; please forgive me, please. I will never try to run away again, no matter what happens. I will accept any punishment you give me, and I won’t complain about school anymore. Please forgive me just this once.” She begged, tears rolling down her cheeks, and he laughed.

Adrian turned and finally met her eyes. “I will never forgive you for trying to run away tonight, Sara. Not even a million apologies can make what you did go away.” Then he turned back towards the door and let himself out, leaving a stunned Sara behind. Sara recovered from her shock and jerked, wincing at the pain in her hand. That bastard!

How could he be so stone-hearted? “Help, somebody help me.” She screamed, hoping someone would come and help her. It was a big house filled with servants and all his men. Surely one of them would hear her screams and run to help her. Hopefully. She was a moment of déjà vu. Just earlier tonight, she had been begging Elijah to set her free, and now here she was doing the same thing but under different situations and conditions. ‘When did my life become this bad?’ she wondered, tugging at the cuffs once again.

“Please help me.” She begged, her voice coming out hoarse and weak. All this screaming will have her losing her voice by morning. “Adrain, please forgive me.” She whispered as her eyes started to droop. The events of the day came crashing down on her, and she felt drained to her bones. Calling out to Adrain one last time for help, she sighed and drifted off to sleep.“Please let me go.”
Adrain opened the door the next morning and paused at the door watching her sleep. She had obviously tired herself out with all the screaming and yelling she had been doing. He had heard her all the way down the hall in his room, but he ignored her. He had panicked a bit when her voice was no longer heard, worried that something had happened, but he had forced himself to stay put and not run to her. Sara couldn’t have the idea in her head that he was into her at any cost. He wasn’t into her—not now and definitely not ever. Annie was the only woman he wanted and loved.

He placed the breakfast tray he had brought for her on the bedroom table and picked up the jug of water. Splashing some of the water in his hand, he sprinkled it on Sara.Sara stirred a bit but didn’t open her eyes, still deep in sleep. Adrain repeated his action again, this time with more water. Sara jolted awake as if she had been electrocuted, and her eyes roamed the room. “Its morning.” Adrain said and placed the tray in front of her on the bed. “Eat.” He sat at the edge of the bed and watched her.

Sara’s eyes finally settled on Adrain’s form, and she tried to reach for him, but the handcuffs stopped her. Shock and anger took over her, and she glared at him. “Uncuff me, Adrain. For goodness’s sake, it’s morning already, and I’m still here. If I wanted to escape, I would have done so in the night, but I’m right here.” Adrain was quiet for a moment, and hope rose in Sara’s heart. When he chuckled and rose to his feet, some of the hope. “You didn’t escape because you were handcuffed to the bed.” She winced, and he frowned, walking towards her.

He checked her wrists and resisted the urge to scream. Her usually fresh and spotless skin was scared, and she had bruises and cuts all over. “I told you to stop struggling, but you refused to listen to me. Now look at what you have done. I hope you are proud of yourself.” He took his seat again and picked up the spoon, filling it with some of the eggs Rosie had made. “Eat.” Sara shook her head and shut her eyes and mouth. “You are not hungry?”

“Uncuff me, Adrain.” Adrain laughed and rose to his feet, dropping the spoon on the plate. “Suit yourself then.” He walked to the door, and with his hands on the doorknob, he stopped and looked back at her. “Remember what I said; no struggling.” “I don’t need your advice; uncuff me. I need to use the bathroom.” She spat at him, her gaze icy. “I really need to use the bathroom, Adrain; I’m not trying to escape.” He studied her silently for a minute while Sara squirmed in her seat. “Adrain, I really need to use the bathroom.” Adrain sighed at the desperation in her voice and walked towards her.

Sara smiled, glad to finally be released, but the smile slipped from her face when he uncuffed her left hand and cuffed his own hand instead. “What are you doing?” “You said you need to use the bathroom, right? Well, you can, but I’m coming with you.” He answered and waited, watching her silently. “You’re going to go with me?” Sara couldn’t believe what was happening, but she really needed to use the bathroom, so she pulled him along with her.
