Chapter 12 Chapter 12

Chapter 12 Chapter 12
At that moment Kai shook his head a little and looked down at the lady again.

“If this had happened somewhere else… she would be gone before help even came.”

He sighed and placed his hand in his pocket, turning back toward the husband.

“I’m extremely busy right now,” he said. “I have appointments lined up, surgeries I need to supervise people waiting for me in three different hospitals.”

He paused. Then looked the man directly in the eyes.

“But I’ll make time. I’ll make sure I personally do the surgery myself to get the baby out of her and fix what is wrong with her.”

Gasps filled the room again.

“Thank you, doctor!” someone shouted from behind.

“God bless you!” another voice added.

Kai nodded slightly, pleased with their reactions.

“That is going to be the easy way out,” he said confidently. “But here, right now, without the right equipment, without a proper team or setup, there’s nothing I can do on this floor.”

He turned to one of the restaurant managers.

“Make sure the ambulance gets here in less than five minutes. Otherwise… it might be too late.”

However, seeing what was going on, Megan had no plans to say anything.

She didn’t come here to prove herself. She didn’t come here to argue with anyone especially not with a man like Kai who clearly believed he knew everything.

But as she stood there… watching the woman lying helplessly on the ground…She could see it clearly.

From the way the woman’s stomach had shifted, the shallow rising of her chest, and the pale, bluish tint creeping onto her lips Megan didn’t need a machine or scan to understand what was happening.

And from the look of things, it wasn’t Ten minutes left.

It was less than two.

The baby was already under distress, and the mother she was empty inside. The signs were subtle to anyone who hadn’t seen it firsthand, but Megan saw it right away.

The woman wasn’t just unconscious, She was crashing fast.

There was no time.

And that was what finally pushed Megan to step in.

She spoke firmly, her voice rising just enough to cut through the noise.

“She doesn’t have ten minutes.”

Immediately the whole room went quiet.

Hearing Megan words everyone turned, Oliver froze, Even Kai’s eyes narrowed.

Megan didn’t wait for approval. Her tone was calm, but commanding different from the quiet woman who had walked into the restaurant earlier.

“She has two minutes maybe less,” Megan continued.

“The baby is in distress, and the mother is empty internally. If nothing is done right now, both of them will die.”

A silence spread across the crowd. Whispers stopped. Even the phones stopped ringing.

Without wasting anymore time Megan stepped forward even more.

“Everyone, give me space. Step back now.”
Upon hearing what Megan just said, Dr. Kai snapped. His calm mask cracked instantly.
His face twisted in fury, and without even thinking, he shouted across the scene at her.
“What the hell do you think you're doing?!” he barked, his voice echoing through the VIP space, cutting into the tension like a knife.
Immediately the room fell silent again.
Then Kai took a step forward, his finger pointed directly at Megan.
“Does this place look like a jungle to you?” he spat. “Do you think this is some local backyard where your traditional guesswork will save lives?!”
Immediately gasps came from the people standing around.
“Don't you dare touch that woman!” Kai continued, his voice rising. “This is not your profession. This is not your field. You're not registered. You're not licensed. You have no right!”
His chest heaved slightly, and he looked ready to explode.
“If you lay your hands on this lady and anything happens to her…” he said, stepping even closer to Megan, “I swear, I will make sure you pay for it. For deceiving people. For trying to act like you’re something you're not. I’ll ruin you for it.”
Hearing what Kai just said Whispers broke out instantly.
“Wait… is she really challenging Dr. Kai?”
“Does she even know who he is?”
“He’s an international doctor… award-winning doctor…”
“He’s treated senator's. Foreign diplomats. Celebrities.”
“Who is this woman?”
Some of the bystanders began to point at Megan, their faces twisted in confusion and disapproval. A few even looked disgusted, not just by her boldness, but by how she looked her old clothes, her plain old shoes, her quiet, battered dignity.
“She doesn’t even look like a nurse,” someone whispered.
“Why would she challenge Dr. Kai?”
“Is she mad?”
But Megan didn’t say a word. She stood still, her face unreadable.
Then, just as the murmurs began to grow louder, Oliver stepped forward with authority in his steps.
He stood directly between Kai and Megan.
His voice was deep, clear, and firm.
“That’s enough, Kai. Step back.”
