Chapter 11 Chapter 11
The woman’s skin had gone pale. Her hands were kind of cold.
“Call an ambulance!” someone shouted.
At that moment Phones were being pulled out. Numbers were dialed. One of the restaurant managers already had his phone pressed to his ear, pacing quickly, trying to give directions.
But there was fear, deep fear on everyone's faces.
From the look of the lady’s condition, it was clear something was very wrong. Something urgent needed to be done. And it didn’t look like the ambulance was going to get there on time.
The woman wasn’t responding. She had just gone blank. Motionless.
more People gathered around in panic. Some were fanning her. Some were holding her wrist, checking for a pulse.
Then, in the middle of the panic, someone turned around and shouted, pointing with wide eyes—
“Dr. Kai!”
Immediately heads turned.
“Dr. Kai is here!” another voice repeated. “He’s a world-class doctor!”
More people began to turn toward Kai, faces full of relief. The panic started to ease just a little, they knew him. Everyone knew him.
“Please, Dr. Kai, help her!” someone cried.
“You're the only one who can save her!” another person shouted.
They began to praise him loudly, like a hero had arrived just in time.
“This is nothing for him, he’s saved lives in worse situations!”
“Yes, Dr.Kai can handle this. She’s going to be in the right hand!”
People started making space around the woman, looking toward Kai with hope in their eyes.
Seeing the accolades, hearing the praises flooding his ears, Dr. Kai immediately raised his shoulders high, pride rising in him like steam.
This this was his moment.
This was the perfect opportunity to not only show off his skill but to prove to Megan, once and for all, that both of them were never on the same level.
He came here tonight to put her in her place, to talk some sense into her arrogant head. All that talk about healing, about helping people in prison were guesswork, as far as he was concerned. Nothing more.
In Kai’s mind, he still doubted if Oliver was ever truly sick. He felt like maybe it was all in Oliver’s head. Maybe just stress. Or maybe… Megan tricked him, played into his weakness, just to gain favor. She saw his name, saw his status, and decided to use it.
To Kai, it all made sense. She didn’t heal him.
She acted, she guessed.
But now? This moment right here? This was his stage.
He would show everyone including Megan that real skill lives in precision, in education, in title. Not prison miracles.
At that moment, with his chin slightly lifted and a small smirk tugging the edge of his lips, Kai stepped closer to the woman lying on the floor.
People made space for him, whispering with hope.
“That’s him he’s about to save her.”
“Doctor Kai’s about to step in.”
“Thank God he’s here.”
He didn’t rush, he took his time. He wanted everyone to see him work.
At that moment he knelt down gently beside the woman. Her husband quickly moved back, relief flashing through his tear-filled eyes.
Kai gave a slow, almost dramatic breath as he touched her forehead.
Then he placed two fingers under her chin. Then lightly on her wrist. He checked her eyes. Her skin. He bent down, listening to her breathing.
People watched quietly. Waiting. Trusting.
After about a minute, Kai stood up, fixing the collar of his designer shirt slowly, already feeling the weight of applause building behind him.
Seeing Dr. Kai stand up almost immediately like he had barely spent a full minute with the collapsed woman everyone around gasped softly in amazement.
He hadn’t panicked, he didn’t fumble.
He didn’t even ask questions.
It was like he knew exactly what was wrong just by touching her once.
And just like that, the praises exploded again.
“Wow… That’s Dr. Kai for you!”
“That’s why he’s number one.”
“No one else can move with this kind of confidence!”
“All the top politicians… even international hospitals—they all want him!”
“He doesn’t need machines. He doesn’t need help. He just knows!”
Whispers turned into quiet applause, and admiration filled the air like perfume.
The husband of the pregnant lady stared at Kai with hope in his eyes, holding his wife’s hand, still shaking but thankful that someone like him was present at that moment.
Dr. Kai, soaking in every bit of the attention, slowly adjusted his wristwatch, glanced at the room like a man who carried the answers to life, and began to speak in his usual calm but proud voice.
“She still has ten minutes,” he said. “Exactly ten minutes.”
Immediately everyone froze. Their faces dropped in fear again.
“Her condition is very, very serious,” Kai continued, his face turning more serious.
“She needs to be taken to a hospital immediately.”
People nodded quickly, phones already in hand, calls still going through to the ambulance services.
