Theo’s P.O.V.

“I didn’t know as an assistant, she has to do so much work.” I complained while cracking my neck on both sides to get rid of some pain.

It had been only an hour, but I felt as if I had fried my mind with all these business and technical terms, and what the hell was wrong with the project department?

So many mistakes in their proposals?

Either they were taking advantage of Rhea’s soft heart, or they all are incompetent.

“This is her daily work.” Dad said to me in a teasing tone, and I stopped yawning, looking at him in a daze.

“What do you mean?” I asked him, yelling in shock.

“I mean, what you understand, Theo. This is her daily work. She is not only my assistant, but she also has to supervise almost five departments’ work for me.” He added, and my eyeballs almost popped out of their sockets in shock.

“Not only that, but she is also helping your mom, Nate, and me in pack work, and you already know that she goes out of the pack to help other packs too,” he added further with the arrogant smirk on his lips.

As if he were saying, See what you have lost.

I couldn’t help but admit that this silent jab hurt badly.

“He is right, actually.” Knight also found an opportunity to taunt me at the same time.

“But …. Are you sure that this is healthy for her mental health?” I asked my father worriedly while standing up with the last file that I finished earlier.

His smile faltered and he took a deep breath. He had two back-to-back meetings in a row, and I am ashamed to admit that I barely managed to get everything that Dad needed to keep up with those meetings.

Rhea was still sleeping on the couch. Dad said that this was the first time that she slept so soundly; otherwise, she was a light sleeper to the extent where even a faint sound at the entrance of the pack house in the dead silence of the night woke her up.

“This is also the only way through which she kept herself away from those horrible memories, Theo.” He replied, and I felt a sharp pain in my chest.

I heard that people always buried themselves in work or in liquor to get away from their pain and sadness filling their lives.

Rhea chose to bury herself under the work.

I stopped in front of my father’s desk and put the file there. He saw him looking at Rhea with a painful gaze.

I also looked in her direction and sighed when I saw how tightly her brows were knitted.

“What do you think has happened in the past that made Rhea react like this?” Dad asked me in a worried voice.

I still had my eyes on her. I was happy that I succeeded in calming her down and also that I was the only one who could approach her in that condition.

“Why do you think that her reaction has something to do with the past?” I asked him in confusion, my eyes still on her.

I had an urge to go to her and ease that tension between her brows, but it could also wake her up. So, I gave up the idea.

“That reaction was psychological, Theo. I just mentioned that if she chooses to reject you in the future, I will have to strip you of your title, as you were the one who initiated this rejection. She immediately became afraid and asked me, If not you, then who?” He told me, and I slowly craned my neck towards him, looking at him in shock, not disbelief.

Because I knew him very well. He was a traditional man and obeyed our laws and beliefs wholeheartedly.

“I told her that Nathan is also at par with you, but it was when the things went wrong. She screamed that I can’t strip you. This is between you and her, and I can’t put the pack’s future at risk by choosing Nathan as the future alpha.” He finished, and I narrowed my eyes this time.

“She immediately went hyperventilating, Theo. That’s why I am asking you if you know something from your past, maybe from your childhood, which is related to you and Nathan.” He spoke further with a serious expression on his face; his gaze locked on me.

“Knight.” I called my wolf when I couldn’t recall anything like that.

“No idea, brother. Ever since I woke up, we have always had a good relationship with Nathan and his family. Even in your memories, there is nothing that can be related to her outburst.” Knight replied to me worriedly, sounding helpless though.

“No, Dad. You can say that this is the first time that I have been compared with Nathan. So, there was no conflict between me and Nathan in the past.” I told him truthfully.

His expression darkened and he looked back at Rhea again, his eyes unfocused as if he were thinking hard.

The silence stretched between us was shattered by the ringing of Dad’s phone. I shot a glare at him when I saw Rhea stirring a little.

Without wasting a second, I immediately approached her.

She still knitted her brows tightly while moving her face a little.

“Have some water first.” I offered a glass of water while sitting at the edge of the couch beside her.

“Did I fall asleep?” She asked me in a hoarse voice, trying to sit but held her head and groaned in pain.

“You fainted.” I replied to her and grabbed her other arm to pull her up.

I was glad that she didn’t resist my touch and sat down comfortably, still holding her head.

“Thanks,” she mumbled while taking the glass and finished the whole glass in one go.

Her eyes were still closed, indicating that she was having a headache.

“If you don’t mind, can I take you to your room?. You need a good rest or else your headache will be a problem,” I asked anxiously.

She shook her head lightly while giving me the empty glass back.

“I will have some painkillers. For now, we have plenty of work to finish before we receive Princess Helena tomorrow.” She refused indirectly but mentioned work instead. I was still sitting close to her.

“Work can wait for a few hours, Rhea. You still need a good sleep of a few hours.” Dad spoke this time, ending his phone call.

I agreed with him and jerked my head with force in agreement.

Rhea was still rubbing her forehead while looking at us in a daze.

“Theo… take her to her room, and make sure that she takes some medication. If her headache doesn’t subside in half an hour, call the doctor.” Dad instructed me sternly, and I nodded in response.

“But alpha.” Rhea protested but shut her mouth in frustration immediately.
