Hunter’s P.O.V.
My words took Rhea off guard as she looked at me with wide open eyes in shock.
It seemed that the younger generation didn’t take my words seriously, and that’s why they thought that they could do whatever they wanted to do.
I understood the pressure on Theo being the future alpha, as I was also at the same place once, but it doesn’t mean that he has the right to ignore our rules and beliefs and do whatever he wanted to do.
Technically, I should have stripped him of his title the next second I learned he was the culprit behind what happened to Rhea and her family, but Knight took control and accepted her as his mate, creating a contradiction here.
The only thing that had stopped me till now was his determination to win his fated mate back. I could see his efforts but also understood Rhea’s pain and determination.
Still, I needed to have this talk with her.
She needed to understand what was at stake if she was still determined to reject Theo.
He was the one who rejected her when she wasn’t supposed to be.
And it cost her more than it had cost any other rejected wolf.
So, her rejection couldn’t be counted as a crime.
“You are not serious, are you?” she asked anxiously after she recovered from her shock.
“I am dead serious, Rhea. If I let Theo go away from this, I won't be able to stop anyone in the future from rejecting their mate even if they are a minor at that time. You understand this situation better than me.” I replied to her with a serious expression on my face.
Her lower lip trembled a little, indicating that she once again remembered that horrible day of her life.
“One Rhea is enough for us, Rhea. I don’t want to open a path that will lead to more Rheas in the future. I am not saying this to make you accept Theo. No, that will make me a bigger sinner than him. If I were in your shoes, I would also have the same thought. So, I am with you. And it’s not like that Theo is the only option we have for the future alpha title. Nathan is as capable as Theo is.” I added, trying to clear my standing in the whole situation.
How could I ask the victim to forgive the culprit when I can’t do that on my own?
“No.” I flinched harder when she yelled suddenly, startled by her outburst.
“You can’t do that,” she yelled again, standing up immediately.
This was kind of disrespectful to me, but I could see that she was afraid right now.
“This is between me and Theo, Alpha Hunter. Let …. Let it be between us. Don’t put pack’s future in jeopardy because of us.” She continued and now I was seriously confused.
“Rhea.” I called her, exasperated by her sudden reaction.
“No, Alpha Hunter. Stripping him is not the solution. I… I agree that this whole situation with me and Theo can lead to something that is not acceptable, but there is a vast difference between Theo and Nathan.” She added, stressing every word.
But what took me off guard was her anxiety. She was practically shivering while trying to defend Theo.
My worry increased when I saw her shoulders trembling.
“Thea…. Calm down.” I asked her worriedly, approaching her immediately, but she shook badly, gripping the edge of the desk.
“No, Alpha Hunter. You have to listen to me. Theo didn’t reject me because he had any grudge against me. He.. he was under a lot of pressure, which made.” She continued ranting without taking a breath and now it worried me more.
“Don’t touch her. Call Theo now. She is hyperventilating, and Moon is also having a hard time controlling her emotions,” Blake, my wolf, immediately warned me.
My hand halted midway, but she was now struggling with her breaths.
“Theo…. My office now.” I commanded Theo through mind-link immediately.
“Rhea.. calm down. You need to breathe, okay?” I tried to calm her down, but she clutched her chest hard, tears pooling in her eyes. The pain and desperation in her eyes were also unbearable.
Where the hell was Theo?
He should be here by now.
Blake warned me not to touch Thea, and he was also trying to keep me away from her, which I clearly didn’t understand.
Still, I needed to calm her down, and her anxiety was now getting on my nerves.
I was about to mind-link Theo again when he barged in, opening the door with a loud bang.
“What happened?” he yelled in panic while running towards us.
“Calm her down. She can’t breathe.” I roared my command, looking at Rhea worriedly.
The next second, Theo closed the distance and pulled Rhea in his embrace.
“Breath, Rhea… you need to breathe.” He asked her calmly, his voice almost in whispers.
“What the hell did happen to her?” I asked Blake while watching them helplessly.
“I also didn’t understand and Moon said that she has no idea about what Rhea suddenly freaked out about. Something triggered in her memories, but it was too vague to be captured by Moon,” he answered me worriedly.
Although Rhea’s wolf, Moon, didn’t show herself in front of others because of her powers, she had a great bond with Blake. He treated her like his own daughter.
So, they could talk with each other. Other than Blake, Moon didn’t talk to any other wolf in the pack. So, no one knows about her existence.
“But this is not normal. What triggered her? I just mentioned that Nathan is at par with Theo.” I mumbled to myself while watching them.
Theo succeeded in calming her down but she fainted in his embrace.
Theo panicked and scooped her up into his embrace and almost ran to the couch.
“We…. We need to call the doctor.” Theo yelled in panic, but I shook my head negatively.
“No need. Her body shut her mind down to calm her. She will be okay after a short nap,” I told him what Blake told me, but I was also not convinced let alone Theo.
“Dad, she fainted.” He pressed but I gave him a calm look.
“I am sure that she will be fine, Theo, but you need to stay near to her. Go, and bring whatever you were doing here.” I instructed him while walking back to Rhea’s desk. I had a meeting to attend and Rhea had everything with her that I needed during the meeting.
I sighed with a bitter smile when I saw how meticulously she had arranged everything. I just need to take everything in the same order and everything will be okay.
“What happened to her?” Theo asked me while I took the files from Rhea’s desk.
“I just said to her that you and Nathan are at par.” I told him truthfully but glanced at him questioningly when he growled lowly, showing his displeasure.
