Chapter 92 — Mysterious Witness?
"You wicked woman! Listen carefully, I will not let your life be peaceful!"
"And I will not let you escape from the clutches of the law," Petra said, patting Renaldi's shoulder and walking out of the courtroom holding Lyyana's hand.
Petra and Lyyana returned to their car after bidding farewell to their legal counsel. Before getting into the car, Denzel shouted to Petra. "What's the matter?" Petra asked casually and flatly.
Unexpectedly, Denzel knelt in front of Petra and thanked her for not demanding a severe punishment for Berli. "Don't do that, get up!" Petra reprimanded Denzel, pulling his shoulder.
"May you both be happy and become even better," Petra said, patting Denzel's shoulder as he bowed his head in embarrassment.
Denzel nodded, Berli approached Lyyana, hugging her and crying in her embrace. "Thank you so much, thank you for everything. Thanks to you, I am not languishing in prison, and thanks to you, I am given the chance to change."
"Everything has its course. I hope we can be good friends."
Berli nodded and hugged Lyyana again. "Forgive all my mistakes."
Lyyana nodded, rubbing Berli's back. After releasing her embrace, Berli's adoptive parents approached them and invited Lyyana and Petra to their home for a dinner party to express their gratitude for the trial's decision.
"We will try our best; currently, Garret is difficult to leave," Lyyana replied with a sweet smile.
"Of course, having a mom as beautiful and gentle as this one surely makes you not want to be far away. Especially her dad," Berli's adoptive mother teased, gently poking Lyyana's hand.
Lyyana just laughed and smiled faintly. "In that case, we'll take our leave first," Lyyana said, hugging Berli's adoptive mother briefly.
Petra's car slowly left the parking lot, and to Lyyana's surprise, Petra took her to the mall and entered one of the boutiques. It turned out Petra wanted to prepare for Garret's upcoming birthday party, which would coincide with the inauguration of her new company branch named "Lygold."
Lyyana tried on various dresses, from long gowns to mini dresses. She had tried on more than 10 dresses, but Petra hadn't approved any yet. Until Lyyana accidentally saw a bone-white dress with a Sabrina neckline and a simple motif, adorned with a few Swarovski stones on the waist and chest. The skirt of the dress was in the shape of a ball gown that fell to her knees. Lyyana looked beautiful and graceful even without makeup on her face.
"I'll choose this one," Petra said without blinking, staring at Lyyana standing in front of her.
Lyyana blushed and lowered her head. After finishing paying for the dress for Lyyana and a suit for herself and Garret, Petra invited Lyyana to choose Garret's birthday present. After nearly two hours of searching, Petra and Garret finally found the perfect gift for their son.
When evening came, Lyyana, Petra, and Garret visited Berli's house as requested the previous afternoon. They were warmly welcomed by Berli and her family. Garret was no longer as afraid of Berli, all thanks to Lyyana, who had managed to explain Berli to him.
"I'm so glad you took the time to come here. I hope you like our simple welcome," Berli's adoptive mother said, inviting Lyyana and Petra inside.
They talked about many things, from the company, business development, to the preparations for Berli and Denzel's wedding, which were just around the corner.
"Oh, by the way, when will you two officially announce your relationship? I can't wait to see Lyyana as a bride, she must be very beautiful and charming," Berli's adoptive mother said, looking at Lyyana in admiration.
"Please pray for us," Petra replied, smiling.
After finishing their small talk and enjoying the dinner that had been prepared, Petra and Lyyana said their goodbyes because it was getting late and Garret was starting to feel sleepy. "Darling, is it okay to wait for the trial's verdict?" Petra asked Lyyana.
The woman who had just put Garret to sleep turned to Petra, looking puzzled. "Why? Is there something wrong? Marriage requires careful preparation. I don't want to rush; we also need to take it step by step before moving forward," Lyyana said. Petra smiled and nodded as she listened to Lyyana's explanation, kissing Lyyana's hand.
Lyyana's days were busy with preparations for Garret's birthday celebration and his early education. Meanwhile, Berli was also preparing for her wedding. She had started choosing her wedding gown, wedding rings, and the venue for her wedding.
Like today, Berli took Lyyana to choose the wedding rings at her favorite gold shop. Lyyana admired the array of rings with various shapes and motifs. Her eyes caught a uniquely shaped ring engraved with Edelweiss flowers, adorned with small pearls along its length.
"Why do you like that ring, Lyyana?" Berli asked because Lyyana couldn't stop staring at it.
Lyyana just smiled, unaware that Berli had taken a photo of the ring and sent it to someone via text message. After that, she chose the ring that had caught her eye from the beginning. Lyyana and Berli went around to several stores. Of course, Lyyana didn't go alone; she brought Garret along with Chala, who was assigned to accompany and look after Lyyana.
After satisfying themselves with their shopping and accompanying Berli in purchasing items for her wedding preparations, Lyyana, Garret, and Chala returned home. Along the way, Garret didn't stop talking about his playtime with Chala.
Time passed quickly, and today was the most important day for Petra, as she would listen to the judge's decision regarding Renaldi and Jessica's case of the accident and attempted murder against her family.
Like any other morning, Lyyana had just finished preparing Petra's clothes. After that, she helped Garret enjoy his breakfast. "Mommy promises it will be just a moment, okay?" Garret asked with his mouth full of food.
"Yes, darling, like yesterday. Just a moment, okay?" Garret nodded and finished all his food.
"Darling, are you ready?" Petra stood at the door of Garret's room.
Lyyana turned and nodded. "Darling, Mommy and Daddy are leaving now, okay? Garret, listen to Aunt Chala, okay?" Garret nodded, smiling, and kissed both Lyyana's and Petra's cheeks in turn.
