Chapter 48 Chapter 0048
•KAILA•

Aveline’s father’s job asked me a few questions through email and when they were done, they told me they would handle everything.

I sat back in the car on my way to school and exhaled.

I knew that if her father couldn't pay her fees anymore, Aveline would be out of the school and there wouldn't be anyone there trying to compete with me for Dominic.

It was a perfect plan. It didn't matter that Dominic wanted nothing to do with me at the moment, but what mattered was that he was mine.

When the car pulled over at the school, my two girls were already outside waiting for me. They opened the door and helped me out with my bags.

"Oh my God, Kaila!" Brielle squealed, hugging me tightly. "We missed you so much."

"You should've seen how boring this place became without you," Serena added dramatically. "There were no parties and no gossip. Nothing."

I laughed softly and adjusted the strap of my handbag on my shoulder. "Relax. I'm back now."

The girls exchanged excited looks before following me inside the residence building. Students turned to stare the moment I walked through the hallway. Some waved while others whispered behind their hands.

I was used to the attention.

The daughter of Alpha Logan Blackthorne would always be noticed.

"Did the school miss me?" I asked casually as we entered the elevator.

Brielle and Serena exchanged a quick look that immediately made my mood sour. "What?" I frowned.

"Well..." Serena hesitated. "Things have been weird since you left for the weekend."

My stomach tightened.

The elevator doors opened and we walked toward my room. The moment we stepped inside, I placed my handbag on the bed and crossed my arms.

"What happened?"

Brielle sighed. "Aveline got expelled yesterday."

My eyes widened. "Wait... what?"

"Apparently there was an issue with her tuition and some paperwork," Serena explained. "People were saying she packed her bags already."

A smile almost spread across my lips before Brielle continued. It sounded good that someone had already done the job for me.

"But the expulsion got revoked this morning."

The smile disappeared instantly. "What do you mean revoked?" I snapped.

Serena lifted both hands defensively. "We don't know. That's the strange part. The admin suddenly reversed everything before classes started."

"Who revoked it?" I demanded.

"We honestly don't know," Brielle answered. "People are saying someone powerful interfered."

I clenched my jaw.

Dominic?

No. He barely looked talked about her earlier in the morning before we left his house.

But then again, there was something between them that I couldn't explain. The way Dominic became distracted whenever her name came up.

It made my blood boil.

"The problem might be solved soon anyway," I muttered coldly. "She won't last in the school for too long."

The girls looked at each other but wisely didn't ask questions.

A while later, we headed to the cafeteria for lunch. The place was crowded with students talking loudly over music playing through the speakers.

The moment we walked inside, my wolf stirred angrily. And I saw Aveline sitting with the new boy, having lunch.

My eyes narrowed immediately.

Matteo leaned back in his chair, saying something that made Aveline laugh softly.

Seeing another man making her smile irritated me more than it should have.

"There she is," Serena muttered under her breath.

Without thinking twice, I straightened my shoulders and walked toward their table with my girls behind me.

Aveline noticed me first. Her expression immediately hardened.

I smiled sweetly. "Aveline," I said loudly enough for nearby tables to hear. "It’s so good to see you again after everything that has happened.”

The cafeteria slowly became quieter. Matteo frowned. "What do you want, Kaila?"

I ignored him completely and kept my eyes on Aveline. "I mean, after trying to seduce Dominic and ruin our engagement, I honestly didn't expect you to show your face here."

A loud gasp echoed somewhere behind me..Several students immediately pulled out their phones, and whispers spread across the cafeteria like wildfire.

"What is she talking about? I thought the rumors were cleared to be lies."

"Did Aveline hook up with Dominic again?"

"Oh my God..."

Aveline stood from her chair. Her face flushed with anger, but she kept her composure. "I don't want trouble with you, Kaila."

Matteo got up beside her protectively. "You should leave."

But I wasn't finished. "You really think you can play innocent?" I scoffed. "You must enjoy chasing other girls’ men."

Aveline grabbed her bag. "Come on, Matteo."

She tried walking past me, completely ignoring me as if I wasn't worth her attention. But that only made me angrier.

Before anyone realized what I was about to do, I grabbed the iced coffee sitting on the table beside her tray and poured it straight over her head.

The cafeteria erupted.

Aveline gasped as the cold drink soaked through her hair, shirt, and jeans.

Matteo immediately stepped toward her. "What the hell is wrong with you?" he growled.

Students stood from their seats, some recording everything openly now.

I stepped closer to Aveline and lowered my voice. "You might have the entire school fooled," I hissed, "but not me."

Coffee dripped from her chin onto the floor.

"And if you don't leave Dominic alone, I will make your life here even more hell."

For a second, I thought Aveline would slap me. I almost wanted her to.

But instead, she stood there silently while Matteo grabbed napkins from the table and tried wiping the coffee from her clothes.

That somehow felt worse.

I smirked and turned around. "Let's go, girls."

The crowd immediately parted for me as I walked out of the cafeteria with Brielle and Serena rushing behind me.

When we reached my room, they closed the door behind them and leaned toward me.

"What are we going to do about her?" Brielle asked. "We can't let her get away with this. She might have bribed the admin office to revoke her expulsion because she doesn't want to stay out of your relationship with Dominic."

"I already had a plan," I answered as I pulled out my ringing cell phone from my pocket.

I answered it when I saw my mother's name on the caller ID. "Yes, mom."

"The elders are threatening to install your uncle as the new Alpha if your father fails to bring the change that he promised through the union with the Frostbane's pack. So if you fail on this, Kaila, it will be over for us.”
