Chapter 47 Chapter 0047
•AVELINE•
Storm was pacing anxiously in my mind. 'Something strange is happening. There must be something wrong, Aveline. We have read the email so many times, and this doesn't make any sense.'
No kidding. Nothing about this felt real. Yesterday, I was expelled, and now I have been assigned to one of the most expensive rooms in the academy.
And apparently, someone had personally moved all my belongings overnight.
The administrator stepped toward the door and opened it for us.
“Again, Miss Aveline, I sincerely apologize for the distress caused. Welcome back to Hargreaves Elite Academy.”
I walked out of the office in silence. Matteo followed beside me, looking far too pleased with himself.
The moment we reached the hallway, I turned toward him. “Did you know about this?”
“What?” he scoffed. "How would I have known about this when I was with you since last night?"
"Matteo, seriously," I groaned. "None of this makes sense, and I don't want to get myself into something I won't be able to handle. Do you think Alpha Frostbane is playing a trick on me because I talked back at him?"
"You did nothing wrong, Aveline," he sighed, leaning closer to me. "The school wasn't supposed to expel you without reason from the beginning. So, maybe they realized their mistake and fixed it."
"They fixed it?" I scoffed. "They didn't fix anything. This might be because Alpha Frostbane is angry with me and did this intentionally to get back at me for embarrassing him in front of my father."
"Let's just say you earned this for everything that has happened," he answered, placing his hand behind my back and leading me down the hallway. "You've worked hard to be here, and you deserve this."
I stared down at the silver key again, but nothing about this situation felt like a win. It felt like the beginning of something I didn’t understand.
By the time we reached the residence hall, my chest was tight with unease.
Matteo, however, looked ready to celebrate.
“You have any idea how huge those rooms are?” he asked while we stepped into the elevator. “Private bathroom, bigger closet, and it has a better view. Everyone wants those rooms, but not everyone can afford them.”
“Why would they give one to me?”
He shrugged. "Can you stop overthinking and appreciate this? Alpha Frostbane had no right to threaten you without facts, and now he will be forced to swallow his words."
That only made my chest tighten even more. I didn't want an Alpha behind my back, watching me as his enemy.
The elevator stopped on the top floor, and Matteo practically dragged me down the hallway until we stopped in front of a dark wooden door with a silver number fixed at the center.
Room number 5.
My heart pounded. I unlocked the door and pushed it open. I couldn't even believe that it was mine when we walked in.
The room was massive.
It had a bigger bed, tall windows that overlooked the academy grounds, and a private study area. And there were shelves lined against the walls.
All my belongings were already neatly arranged inside.
Matteo walked in behind me and let out a low whistle. “Oh, this is beautiful,” he laughed. “You officially upgraded your life overnight.”
But I barely heard him.
I stood frozen near the doorway, staring at the room while confusion twisted deeper inside me.
Because somehow, things had only become strangers.
Just as I was about to explore the room, my cell phone rang. My heart almost jumped out of my throat before I saw my father’s name on the screen.
I looked at Matteo before I picked up the call and walked to the bathroom. I closed the door and pressed my back against it.
"The school has informed me about your expulsion last night," he answered. "I will come and bring you back home in an hour. We will discuss this and ensure that what happened here yesterday never happens again. Do we agree?"
"I can't believe my own father stood there and said nothing when Alpha Frostbane wanted to take everything I have worked for," I replied, my voice rough. "You didn't even say anything when you didn't even have facts about what he said to you."
"He told me disturbing things about you and Felicia's son, and you know how we've been hoping you'd get along as siblings," he replied, huffing. "How do you think I felt when he showed me a video of you and that boy walking together into his room? Felicia would be disappointed when I tell her about this."
"You were supposed to believe me," I scoffed. "You were supposed to trust me and believe that I could never do anything that could ruin all the work I've done to be here. But no, you believed him over me!"
"Alpha Frostbane made a serious accusation against you, but it didn't change the way I look at you," he answered. "You're still my daughter and we will figure this out."
"I don't need your help anymore." My voice broke.
My father was quiet for a moment, thinking about what I had just said.
Even though I felt bad for lying to him, I felt disappointed that he could believe someone else over me.
He did nothing when Dominic’s father told me that I would be transferred to another school.
"I am coming to pick—"
"There's no need," I scoffed, cutting him off. "I am no longer expelled from the school. You may not believe in me, but someone else does, and they made sure not to let Alpha Frostbane take everything I had worked hard for."
"What—"
"And stop calling me," I cut him off again. "You're no longer my father, because if I had one, he wouldn't have made things so difficult for me since the beginning of the year. I am the only one who can take care of me, and no one else."
I hung up the call and leaned my head back on the door. I exhaled loudly, trying to hold back the tears that burned behind my eyes.
