Chapter 37 Gossiping Workers
Chapter 37 Gossiping Workers
Monday Morning:
“Do you think those rumours are true? Was Mrs. Sonia really a victim of sexual assault?” A lady's voice echoed in the quiet room, and all eyes turned to her.
There were five people in the room, three ladies and two men. They were seated in a circle, ready to continue their gossiping. Their office door was closed, and “Marketing team” was boldly written on it.
“I heard she enjoyed it and kept going back for more. She wasn't a victim, she was a sex worker…..a very good one at that,” a man whispered, a sinister smile plastered on his face.
“I agree with you. If she was really a victim, why then didn't she quit her job? And why did she keep going back? It is obvious that she secretly enjoyed having sex with older men. I believe she even cheated on Mr. Lucian, and had an affair with Michael,” a short chubby woman sneered, big pimples and sores were all over her face, giving her a questionable appearance.
The three people (two women, one man) who had spoken kept supporting themselves, and a noise broke out as they all talked at once.
“Guys, guys! What about Georgia? Sonia is her best friend, how do you think she feels about the whole issue? Betrayed? Bitter?” The second man asked with a calm voice, and stood up from his seat, slowly walking to an empty desk. “She probably hates Sonia and her boyfriend,” he continued, placing his hands on the desk. Georgia's name was customized on the desk, as with the other desks which had the user's name.
“The first time I saw Sonia, I immediately knew she was bad luck. Miss Georgia and Angela did their best to get her employed. I remember those times they both attended different boring office dinners hoping to speak with our manager. It's a pity that Sonia is ungrateful, and slept with her friend's man,” the first woman who'd spoken continued, and they all nodded in agreement.
The last lady who'd been keeping quiet, tightened her fists. “Why are you all so quick to judge? Mr. Lucian denied the rumours, he said Mrs. Sonia and Mr. Michael's relationship was pure business and it has officially ended, so why are you guys lying?” She asked, standing up, a fierce look on her face. “You,” she said, pointing at the short chubby woman. “How did you know that Sonia and Michael had sex? Did they tell you or are you just talking out of jealousy? Look at your face, you look ugly. Instead of treating your infections, you're taking your anger out on an innocent Sonia. These people who are gossiping with you secretly mock you behind your back! So shut up and get busy with your life!”
The workers shifted uncomfortably, and the short woman looked embarrassed. She looked at her supposed friends in shock, wondering if they really mocked her.
The man who was standing by Georgia's desk sat down and furrowed his brows. “Mirabella, why are you supporting Sonia? Is it because she helped your mother with her hospital bills? Or is it because she paid off your mortgage?” He asked, earning a gasp from his listeners.
Mirabella was caught off guard by his words, and she couldn't think of a comeback. The short woman eager to redeem herself hissed at Mirabella.
“I know what I'm saying. On Friday, I saw Angela and Sonia leaving their office together. We all know it is usually Angela, Georgia, and Sonia. Something is up with them and Angela is taking sides with Sonia!” The short woman growled like a wounded tigress.
“That's enough!” A husky voice vibrated in the office as the door closed, and the five workers quickly stood up. They looked like they'd been caught stealing, and their hands were kept in front of them.
“Miss Georgia? When did you come in?” One of the ladies whispered, and the other nodded in agreement.
Georgia shook her head and rolled her eyes. “Throughout my time as your director. I must say I hated the job, and the five of you are disgustingly annoying. As for you Mirabella, there's no need to defend Sonia. She's nothing but a lying bunny.” Georgia said, her heels clinking as she angrily walked to her desk. Two security officers also entered, and the five workers raised their heads wondering what was going on.
Georgia looked furious as she packed her stuff into a big box.
“Is she leaving?” One of the workers whispered to her friends, but Georgia heard her question loud and clear.
When Georgia was through with packing, she angrily smashed her glass medal on the floor. “Yes! I've been fired for speaking the truth, but it's alright. I don't like this company anyway, and it's just a matter of time before Michael and I build ours!” She growled, and the workers looked shocked.
Georgia might not have been a good friend to Sonia, but she was a good boss to her team. She listened to them and treated everyone patiently.
They all looked sad to see her go, but in their minds, they were happy, because her leaving meant one of them would get promoted.
“Miss Georgia, we'll miss you!” The short woman cried out with a menacing smile.
“Yes, we love you,” another worker said.
Georgia hissed in irritation. “Don't bother lying, I know you all talk about me behind my back, so fuck you!” She yelled, and angrily left the office along with the security officers.
After confirming she had gone, there was a loud rejoicing in the Marketing team, and they excitedly talked about who would get the promotion. Mirabella on the other hand looked heartbroken. She was acquainted with Sonia and had been to her house on many occasions. So she knew that the trio had a strong bond that even she was jealous of her friendship. “So what went wrong?” she wondered.
“Stop thinking too much! Sonia is married to a wealthy man now, she is so rich that she doesn't need your worries! So bother about who will be our new director instead,” the chubby woman said to Mirabella with a grimace.
As they were speaking, the door was pushed open, and Sonia entered with a full box.
