Chapter 469: Disturbed
"I didn't call room service," Selene looked at the server who appeared before her, completely puzzled.
The other person stood there pushing a cart, looking at Selene with an official smile, like a fake person trained in some system.
"Ms. Peterson, someone ordered a bottle of red wine for you at the front desk and asked me to bring it up."
"Red wine?" Selene's gaze fell on the wine bottle. She'd never had this wine before, but she recognized the brand - a good vintage could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the one he was holding started at least at over a hundred thousand.
Who was being so generous?
"Yes!"
"Who sent it?"
"Not quite sure, but judging by the voice, it should be a wealthy woman."
Dione instantly flashed through Selene's mind - the one everyone had been talking about. Without thinking much, she stepped aside to let him in.
The server came in with the red wine and turned to ask, "Should I open it?"
"Go ahead!"
"Just open it, put it down, and you can leave."
After all, it was a high-end hotel - she trusted their service.
The server nodded, opened the wine, and went to get some ice from the hotel's built-in fridge.
Selene had just turned around when someone covered her mouth and nose. She looked at the server in front of her in terror, then lost consciousness.
"Took long enough!" Raymond came in, glanced around the hotel room, picked up her phone, did something with it, and put it back where it was.
"Let's go."
He was so quick it was like he'd just come in for a tour.
Before leaving, he even had someone prop Selene up on the bed, creating a scene that might look like she'd just had too much to drink.
"Mr. Carter, where are you heading now? The bridal suite?"
The bridal suite?
Raymond thought about it - if the person beside him hadn't reminded him, he would have almost forgotten that tonight was his wedding night.
Go back? That would mean endless arguing with Elowen.
"Get me a room here."
"That doesn't seem right. If your family finds out, they'll probably come after you."
"I'd rather get chewed out than go back and listen to Elowen's complaints."
Half an hour later, Selene suddenly woke up.
She shot up from the bed, looking around frantically, her panicked eyes scanning herself from head to toe. Only when she found her clothes intact did she breathe a huge sigh of relief.
She turned to call the front desk to have them come up and handle this, but then she saw the wine glass sitting on the table.
Instantly, fragmented memories came flooding back.
Was everything that just happened not real?
What Selene didn't know was that the person who had knocked her out was now in a suite downstairs, soaking in a bath, slowly sipping a glass of red wine.
........
"Who is it? This late at night, can't you be more considerate? One after another showing up in the middle of the night looking for people."
Thalia had just laid down, her nightgown strap already half off, her hand already touching William's abs, when someone started pressing the doorbell.
The man chuckled quietly, reached over to pull Thalia close, and kissed her. "Want it that bad?"
"What about whoever's at the door?"
"Why should we care about them?"
Outside, Sean stood at the door with Steven. Seeing that the door wasn't opening, he pretty much knew William was doing it on purpose.
Sean couldn't pass up such an opportunity.
"Grandpa, William has never taken us seriously. Leaving without a word today shows he has no sense of cooperation at all."
"What did the hotel say? Did he check out?"
"No response." William owned shares in this hotel - it was one of his investment projects, so naturally, no one dared leak any information about him.
"Have people watch this place. No matter what, we can't let him leave Regal City so easily."
Sean pressed his lips together and reluctantly agreed.
The Jimenezes were all panicking now, not knowing what Dione had talked about with William. If William were easy to control, they wouldn't be worried at all, but William wasn't.
This man was not only hard to control but also quite calculating.
He might very well sell them out.
Then, if Dione came after the Jimenez family, the Jimenez family wouldn't even be able to get back on their feet.
In the early morning hours, after sex, William held Thalia as they took a bath. Once everything was cleaned up, they lay back in bed.
He made a call to Finn.
"Steven has arranged for people to watch outside your door."
"Get rid of them."
"Yes."
Finn hung up the phone, climbed out of bed, and got dressed with John before heading upstairs. Middle of the night, and since coming to Regal City, everything they'd been doing was serious business.
"I feel like ever since we came to Regal City, life's been getting more and more exciting."
"However exciting it is, it's equally dangerous. Not a good thing."
"I'll take the elevator, you take the stairs, in case someone tries to run."
When the elevator reached the floor, Finn looked down the hallway. Seeing it empty, he figured the person was probably in the stairwell. He quickly walked over and pushed open the fire door. Their eyes met, and the other person, like a startled bird, immediately turned to run, only to be kicked back by someone who'd just turned the corner. John was leaning against the stairwell entrance with a cigarette, looking casual.
"I thought the Jimenez family could find someone capable! Turns out this is all they've got!"
John spoke mockingly, watching Finn walk over and pull the man up from the ground. "Choose - either you leave on your own, or I break your legs."
"I... I'll leave on my own."
The man was scared out of his wits. He could tell that neither of these two men was to be messed with. If he went up against them, he'd definitely be the one to suffer.
Finn let go of him without saying another word. The guy was so scared he didn't even dare take the elevator - he ran down the stairs instead.
The next morning, the winds changed dramatically in Regal City. Normally, when the Carter family and the Mitchell family joined in marriage, the news media should have been making a big deal of it - after all, elite family drama was what people loved to watch.
But unexpectedly, William came out of nowhere.
Photos of William, the new elite from Emerald City, attending the wedding were plastered all over Regal City's streets and alleys - from small newsstands barely staying in business to major news media outlets.
And the most interesting thing was that the media only mentioned William, but never breathed a word about the Jimenez family. Any online news linking William with the Jimenez family would get taken down.
Steven was so angry early in the morning that he smashed several teacups before calming down.
"Who leaked this news? The whole screen is full of William, but not a single mention of the Jimenez family. Don't forget who brought him to the wedding."
"Mr. Jimenez, the media all seem too scared to take it on—"
As soon as Steven saw the news that morning, he had arranged for Stefan to handle it, but unexpectedly, the guy came back shortly after.
It seemed that trying to establish a connection with William was going to be quite difficult.
