Chapter 468: Missing Your Mom?
Eleanor walked through the crowd with her wine glass, about to open the balcony door for some fresh air, when she ran right into Selene coming in.
The two came face to face, and a glass of red wine spilled all over Selene.
Eleanor had personally sent out invitations to every guest from Emerald City, so of course, she knew who was coming.
"Ms. Peterson, are you okay? I've had a bit too much to drink tonight and didn't see you."
Selene's lips twitched as she glanced at her stained dress and shook her head. "It's fine, Ms. Mitchell. You're happy today, and with so many guests, it's understandable."
"There are spare dresses upstairs. If you don't mind, Ms. Peterson, I can take you up to change."
Selene hesitated, but thinking that Eleanor was the head of the Mitchell family and it wouldn't hurt to make connections, she nodded. "That would be great, thanks."
On the third-floor lounge, Eleanor stood outside, glancing toward the sofa. Who would have thought that just an hour ago, William was here being all lovey-dovey with Thalia, and now she was here helping his rumored girlfriend change clothes.
If it weren't so inconvenient, she would definitely take some photo to show off to Thalia and make her feel bad.
"Ready?"
The door opened, and Eleanor turned around.
Selene nodded. "Thank you."
"Don't mention it, I was the one who spilled wine on you."
"Let's go downstairs."
Eleanor led Selene down the stairs. At the second-floor landing, some society ladies were standing together gossiping about William and Dione.
"You know what, that woman from Emerald City looks exactly like Dione. The other kids she had later don't look as much like her."
"Truly stunning."
"But I heard Dione only gave birth to him, but didn't raise him. Plus, now that he's successful and famous, I bet their relationship isn't great."
The person next to her laughed. "Not great? It'd be good if they're not enemies."
"I heard William was called up to the third floor by someone close to Dione. After going up, no one saw him come down. Probably didn't end well."
Eleanor listened while watching Selene out of the corner of her eye, wanting to see her expression.
She thought to herself: As expected of a young girl fresh out of school! All her emotions were written on her face. And she wants to compete with Thalia for a man? Thalia could crush her with one finger.
Eleanor coughed, and the people downstairs looked at each other, then left without seeing who it was.
"The Dione they mentioned?"
"Oh, Mr. Brown's birth mother," Eleanor answered Selene's question.
"But I heard they don't have much of a mother-son relationship," Eleanor casually dropped this line. Selene listened, feeling conflicted inside.
She felt uncertain for a moment.
.............
At the hotel, William sat on the living room sofa after his shower, legs spread wide, leaning back. As he listened to the sound of running water from the bathroom, his mind wandered to the people at the hotel today.
He'd long known he looked like Dione. Vaughn had never hidden that fact.
Whenever people complimented his looks as a child, he would always say he looked like his mother. So he was always curious what she looked like. But later, as he grew up and learned the truth, he stopped caring about her appearance.
Yet today, when they met, that undeniable feeling of blood connection welled up.
So it's true—there really are people in this world who can recognize their long-lost child just by their face. This isn't just something that happens in romance novels or TV dramas.
"What are you thinking about?"
Thalia came out of the bedroom after her shower. Seeing William lost in thought, she ran her fingers through her wet hair and flicked water droplets at his face.
Instantly pulling him back to reality.
"Done with your shower? Give me the hairdryer, I'll dry your hair."
"No way. Every time you dry my hair, you practically try to snap my head off."
Thalia refused, pulling out the hairdryer from under the bathroom sink. "Thinking about your mom?"
William frowned slightly.
William didn't want Thalia talking about this. He sighed and walked over. "Weren't you complaining a few days ago about some bag being out of stock in Emerald City? Does Regal City have it? Did you check?"
At this, the gloom on Thalia's face vanished, and her eyes sparkled as she looked at William.
"You're paying?"
"That question makes it sound like I'm really stingy, but actually, whether you're shopping with Amara or Evelyn, you're using my card."
"Before marriage, I thought I'd just be supporting a wife. After marriage, I realized I also have to support my wife's friends."
"Girls have had a dream since childhood—to steal their man's money to support their friends," Thalia said, blinking at him playfully and adorably.
.........
"Raymond, where did you go?"
"Do you know today is our wedding night?"
After the wedding, Elowen returned exhausted to the newlywed home the Carters had prepared. After her shower, Raymond was gone. She called him, and was met with deafening music on the other end.
And Raymond's mocking voice. "When life is good, every night is a wedding night. I'm tired from the day, you should sleep early."
"Raymond..." Elowen yelled and hung up.
She threw on a robe and angrily headed for the door, but as soon as she opened it, she saw Eleanor standing there with her bag, wearing a black coat over a white dress.
"Where are you going?"
"What are you doing here?"
Seeing her teary-eyed and furious, Eleanor knew something must have happened.
And it was definitely about Raymond. She didn't bother asking. "Grandpa and I are heading back to Emerald City. I came to tell you."
Hearing that Eleanor and her grandfather were leaving, Elowen burst into tears, squatting on the ground in her robe with wet hair, crying loudly.
Eleanor took a step back, as if disgusted.
"Raymond left."
Eleanor mocked, "You didn't cry this hard when your dad got thrown in jail."
Elowen had expected comfort from Eleanor, but instead got scolded. She shouted back angrily, "You just don't understand."
"You're right, I don't understand, and I don't want to understand what goes on in your head."
"If you can't get used to living in Regal City, come back to Emerald City. You have a wedding home there too."
Meanwhile, Raymond brought someone into a hotel, pretending to be a staff member and knocking on Selene's room door.
