Chapter 390 William Quickly Caught Her
"What's wrong?"
"Finn said Ms. Anderson was taken to the police station. Someone reported her for endangering someone's life."
"Tell Finn to wait for me in the living room." William went into the room to grab a coat, tying the strings as he headed downstairs.
When leaving, he left the door slightly ajar, worried that if Thalia woke up and called for him, he wouldn't hear.
Seeing William coming downstairs, Finn quickly went up to him. "A colleague of Amara's from the hospital contacted me. She took in an emergency heart patient tonight. The patient has a dedicated doctor in Regal City. Amara gave them basic first aid and was waiting for the doctor from Regal City to come and determine the treatment plan, but before the Regal City doctor arrived, the patient had a seizure."
"The patient is a registered retired official, so they called the police directly. The police took Amara away."
"Who?"
"The patient is Steven, and Eileen was the one who called the police."
William had guessed as much. If they couldn't get to him, they'd go after those they could reach?
"Go to the Brown Mansion now and tell my dad and Harper about this. Tell them not to worry, I'll handle it."
"Then go to the police station to check on Amara."
"Okay." Finn immediately got to work after receiving instructions.
When Finn arrived at the Brown Mansion in the middle of the night, Vaughn had just received a call from a colleague.
The son of his university colleague worked at the same hospital as Amara, and called as soon as the incident happened.
Hearing this news in the middle of the night, Harper got up and took two blood pressure pills. "What should we do? Should we call William?"
"At this hour, he and Thalia are probably asleep."
Harper looked at the time - 1:32 AM.
They were probably asleep.
"Mr. Brown, Mrs. Brown, Finn is here. He says Mr. William Brown sent him."
"Mr. Brown, Mr. William Brown asked me to tell you both that he'll handle Amara's situation, so you don't need to worry. Also, this is the Jimenezes' doing. If the Jimenezes come to your door, please don't panic."
"Them again! When will they ever stop?" Harper's temper flared up immediately at the mention of the Jimenezes.
Vaughn quickly patted her back.
"Got it. You should head back and rest."
As soon as Finn left, Harper couldn't contain her temper anymore. She started cursing the Jimenezes in the living room while Vaughn tried to calm her down. "Alright, if you keep cursing, those blood pressure pills will be for nothing."
"I'll take two more pills and keep cursing. I'm so angry."
"What kind of people are the Jimenezes? Next time they come looking for you, call me too. I'll curse them so badly they won't be able to lift their heads."
At the police station, Amara knew she wouldn't be getting out tonight.
She calmly took off her coat, covered herself with it, and lay down on a chair to sleep.
Good thing she was smart enough to grab a long coat when she came - at least she wouldn't freeze. Late autumn nights were chilly, especially in a place like the police station.
These people had probably gone to investigate the situation and wouldn't be interrogating her anytime soon.
When Finn arrived, he happened to run into the people who had gone to the hospital to investigate, just returning. The supervisor on duty quickly called them over.
"Come here and explain the situation."
The person looked at Finn with some confusion, seeing his military bearing and assuming he was someone important. Not daring to delay, they went through the whole story from beginning to end.
Finn listened and understood. "So you're saying the evidence is still being investigated, but you're holding her?"
The person was somewhat at a loss for words, looking at their supervisor before saying, "We're just following procedure. The main thing is that the other party's rank is too high. Since they're insisting on it, we need to investigate whether it's true or not before we can release her."
Finn got it - the key point in that sentence was that the other party's rank was too high.
Procedures could sometimes vary depending on the person involved.
The investigators might not understand this, but the supervisor did.
Seeing Finn remain silent, the supervisor considered speaking up.
But Finn beat him to it. "I can understand your approach. Since you're following the procedure, then follow your procedure. After all, we're law-abiding citizens too. We just hope this matter can be resolved quickly."
The supervisor nodded repeatedly at Finn's words. "Absolutely."
"I'd like to see her."
"Sure, I'll take you there."
Finn stood at the door and saw Amara sleeping soundly on the short bench, covered with her coat. His heart, which had been in his throat, finally settled.
He didn't go in to disturb her and went back to Mistwood Hill to report.
Just after seeing Finn off, the supervisor smacked the investigating officer on the head. "Do you know what you just said? The person locked up in there is William's sister - William, the richest man in Emerald City."
"No matter how high the other party's rank is, they're just a retired outsider. How could you say such things in front of Emerald City's richest man?"
"Isn't she just a doctor?" The person stammered, clearly frightened.
The supervisor looked at him with disappointment.
The next morning, Thalia woke up needing to use the bathroom. After struggling for over ten minutes between getting up or not, she groggily threw off the covers and got out of bed.
After using the bathroom, as she climbed back into bed, she felt the other side was empty. Opening her eyes, sure enough, William wasn't there.
5:47 AM.
William's schedule was a mystery to Thalia.
This kind of self-discipline bordering on obsession was something she could never achieve.
After thinking for a while, she picked up her phone and called him.
"What's wrong?" William answered the phone as he came upstairs, his t-shirt soaked with sweat - clearly just back from his morning run.
"I want some water."
William thought to himself, 'Lazy enough - she'd rather call me than get up and pour herself some water.'
"Slow down."
Thalia handed the cup back to him and slid down under the covers. "Someone knocked on the door in the middle of the night? What happened?"
"Eileen had Amara taken to the police station."
Thalia threw off the covers abruptly, the movement so sudden she nearly fell off the bed.
Fortunately, William caught her quickly.
"So careless."
"Why would Amara be taken to the police station? Did Amara poison her?"
William explained the whole situation to Thalia.
Thalia laughed in anger. "How interesting! I'm coming with you to see her."
