Chapter 279 Facing Adversity Together
"Done talking?" William came downstairs just as Thalia finished watching TV.
"Yeah." William drank half a glass of water and noticed Thalia's calm expression, finding it a bit strange. "You're not curious?"
"Of course I am!"
"Curious but not asking?"
"What's there to ask? When you're ready to tell me, you naturally will. William, I support you having secrets. Everyone has their own shadows and bright spots. You don't need to trade your difficult secrets for my trust. Whether you tell me or not, I believe in you."
"Your secrets, your difficulties—I'll help you keep them safe."
Thalia believed in William's character, a conviction ingrained in her since childhood.
Like back in school, when she played a prank and put a snake in his backpack, but then when some street punks bullied her, he still helped her deal with them without holding a grudge.
She really did like him, and she really did break up with him.
The main reason she broke up with William was that she discovered his purity, and she felt she couldn't handle that kind of purity.
The Smith family's wealth did give her confidence, but at the same time, Hayden's various scandals made her feel insecure about relationships. As Hayden's daughter, before establishing her own values, she once thought she was like her father—somewhat dirty.
Someone like William, who grew up upright under Vaughn's guidance, wasn't someone she should taint.
"Why?" Listening closely, William's words carried a slight tremor.
He seemed not to have expected Thalia to say such things.
"Because I believe in you."
"Where does that belief come from?"
"Your family, the environment you grew up in."
"Aren't you afraid that I'm no longer the person you knew when we were young?"
Thalia smiled. This was the first time she'd heard William ask questions so persistently. She had been sitting cross-legged on the sofa, but now she slowly shifted to kneel. She seductively curled her finger, gesturing for William to come closer.
The man obediently moved to Thalia. She instinctively wanted to grab his tie, but realized William was wearing casual clothes today. Her wrist shifted, and instead she hooked one hand around his neck.
The woman seductively lifted the corner of her eye and leaned down to lightly peck his lips. "It doesn't matter, William. We're husband and wife—we should share both good times and bad."
"Whether you've changed or not doesn't matter to me. I won't lose my willingness to trust people just because you've changed."
"William, you can't change me—unless I'm willing to change for you."
William stared at her, his gaze deep and filled with desire. The atmosphere in the living room grew increasingly intense.
His composure was what attracted her most.
"Thalia..." The man spoke in a low voice, his jawline tense, his back rigid.
"Hmm?" Thalia tilted her head.
William reached up to cradle the back of her head. In the living room, the master and mistress of the house half-knelt on the sofa, lips and tongues entwined.
Thalia didn't know that what William loved was exactly that straightforward, carefree nature of hers—honest and easygoing.
The natural pride that came with being a girl raised in a wealthy family made him crazy about her.
Her honesty made him want to absorb her into his very bones.
Two years?
Not a chance.
For the rest of her life, even in death, she could only be his wife.
'Thalia, oh Thalia, there's no escape for you.' He thought.
"Holy shit!"
