Chapter 277 William Hands Her a Cup of Water

Chapter 278 Life Is Full of Chaos

"What's wrong?" Thalia asked.

"Recently, an old man from Regal City has been coming to my department looking for me, over and over again. He's not there to see me as a patient, but wants to chat with me about something. I just find it very strange."

"And you think William can help with this?"

Amara choked up, realizing she'd said the wrong thing. William probably hadn't told Thalia about all that messy stuff in his family yet. When she saw the name today, she had a vague idea of who this person was.

The Jimenez family—how many Jimenez families could there be in Regal City?

Especially a Jimenez family in such a high position.

If it was the Jimenez family coming to find her, everything made sense. They weren't coming for her at all—they were coming for William.

Amara lowered her head in thought. Thalia understood everything. From Amara's hesitation last time to her pensiveness today, she could guess that this really had something to do with William.

Grace had once mentioned that William's biological mother was the daughter of a wealthy family in Regal City.

The things that could make the Browns refuse to talk about them were probably those matters.

However long Amara thought, Thalia remained silent for just as long, with no intention of asking questions. Everyone has their own secrets and shadows. If they didn't want to talk, they had their reasons. Why should she pry?

If Amara wanted to talk, she would listen.

If not, she would pretend not to know.

Before long, William came downstairs and saw Amara sitting on the sofa with a worried expression, her slender fingers absentmindedly stroking the cat's back. "What's wrong?"

"There's something I want to talk to you about." Hearing William's voice, Amara jumped up from the sofa.

William glanced at Thalia, who nodded understandingly. "You two talk."

"Come upstairs." As soon as William spoke, Amara followed closely behind.

Once in the study, she laid out everything that had happened over the past few days.

"He came to see you?"

"Several times now. It's really weird. Each time he says he wants to chat with me. Last time he even asked if our whole family would be interested in moving to Regal City."

William lit a cigarette and took a light drag. "What else did he say?"

Amara added, "Not much else. The second time he came to see me, we hadn't even started talking when he got a phone call and left in a hurry."

"Dad said that recently someone from the Jimenez family came to see him, wanting you to go develop your career in Regal City. Is it the same person?"

"Yeah." William nodded.

"Do you want to go?" Amara asked carefully, looking at William with somewhat pitiful eyes. "If you want to go find your rich biological mother, we'll support you. After all, it's your life. We're all outsiders. Don't worry! We won't be sad if you go."

"Amara, shut up." William had a headache.

"William, life is full of chaos."

"Don't think they're better off than our family—they're definitely just as messy. They didn't come looking for you earlier or later, but only after you got rich. Aren't they up to something?"

"Besides, if you go to Regal City, Thalia might end up with a different man every day. Aren't you worried your wife will run off with someone else?"

"Amara!" The man held back his anger, his voice low and strained. Hearing this deep voice, Amara didn't dare make a sound for a moment.

Amara pouted. "I just can't bear to see you go!"

Although he wasn't her biological brother, they'd developed feelings after spending so much time together.

"Don't overthink it. I'm not going. Next time he comes to see you, just tell him straight."

"Mr. Lowe, someone delivered a document for you."

Kurt asked, "What document?"

The secretary shook her head. "Not sure."

Kurt, who was about to leave work, took the document and opened it. Inside were multiple photos and a typed letter.

[Mr. Lowe, Mrs. Lowe has been privately organizing low-end gatherings, giving people illegal substances, and blackmailing them. Mr. Lowe, haven't you wondered where all that large sum of money that recently came into the Lowe Group came from?]

Kurt's whole body shook when he saw the photos.

How could this be?

Zephyrine had been doing this kind of thing behind his back?

If this was discovered, all their years of hard work would be destroyed.

"Go home." Kurt snapped. The secretary didn't dare delay and immediately called the driver to bring the car to the entrance.

When Kurt got home, Zephyrine had just finished her shower. He pushed the door open, closed it behind him, and threw the contents of the envelope in front of Zephyrine. "Where has your money been coming from lately?"

Faced with Kurt's questioning, Zephyrine wasn't flustered at all.

She reached out and picked up the photos from the table, glancing at them. "Who gave you these photos?"

Kurt replied, "Someone sent them anonymously."

A flash of panic crossed Zephyrine's eyes. "Do you know who?"

Kurt suppressed his emotions. "So it's true?"

"Yeah."

"Why would you do this?"

"To help the company get through this difficult time."

"But you can't go down the path of breaking the law."

"Kurt, we've never been clean. We've just whitewashed ourselves over the years. Which businessman doesn't have some dirt on them? Why are you so nervous?"

Zephyrine opened a drawer, took out a lighter, and set the photos in her hand on fire. Holding the burning photos, she walked to the bathroom shower and threw them in.

Until they were completely gone.

Kurt stood at the door watching her indifferent actions, fury burning in his chest. "The past is the past, now is now. We're just waiting for a smooth landing. Even if we lose, we should lose with integrity. Do you know what it means if you get caught doing this?"

"If we lose, what integrity is there left?" Zephyrine shot back.

"I won't let things get exposed. Don't worry." She was full of confidence. Kurt looked at her and seemed to see again the heiress who had come from Regal City back then—strategic and ruthless in her thinking.

Seeing she was unmoved, Kurt left, slamming the door in anger.

Zephyrine made a phone call, instructing them not to make any moves recently to avoid being caught.

"But we've already sent out one batch of photos."

"Stop for now. Wait for my word." Zephyrine said.

"Okay."

"Mr. Lowe, some people in the business circle have organized a gathering. I heard Mr. Brown will be there too. Should we go?"

"Go." Kurt didn't think twice. He still placed his hopes on William.

Rather than let Zephyrine take risks, he'd rather swallow his pride and ask for help.
