Chapter 89 I Will Immediately Send the Person to Mr. Brown's Residence
Rainey's face went ghostly white when he saw who had walked in. He quickly shoved the woman beside him away and hurried over to greet Daniel. "Mr. Wilson! What brings you here?"
Daniel stood at the door, arms crossed, a grin plastered on his face. That smile didn't budge.
"It's been a minute, Mr. Ward. Heard you were having a meeting here. Thought I'd swing by."
Rainey's expression shifted, and he forced a grin. "A meeting's just an excuse. If I'd known it was you, Mr. Wilson, I'd have come out to greet you myself."
"What if it was Mr. Brown?" Daniel asked.
Rainey froze. For Daniel to show such respect, this person had to be someone significant.
"Mr. Brown?"
"Yeah, Mr. Brown," Daniel confirmed.
Daniel stepped aside, revealing William standing at the door, seemingly on a phone call, his demeanor humble.
Rainey's mind raced. How had he offended William?
William was known as a top lawyer. If he was second, no one dared claim first. With his complex network and deep legal knowledge, many in Emerald City kept their distance out of respect and fear.
Rainey, being in the entertainment industry, often needed a lawyer. The last person he wanted to cross was William.
Rainey wiped his sweaty palms on his pants.
William finished his call ten minutes later. To Rainey, those ten minutes felt like an eternity.
It didn’t help that Amara had been gossiping about Thalia earlier, and he’d just been chewed out by Vaughn over the phone.
"Mr. Brown, have I offended you in some way?"
Rainey, who had been so bold earlier, was now visibly nervous.
William walked over, gesturing to the sofa with a tilt of his chin. "Why so tense, Mr. Ward? Have a seat. Let's chat."
"Someone get Mr. Brown a coffee," Rainey ordered, knowing William's preferences. He rarely drank alcohol, preferring coffee instead.
"No need," William replied. "I'm here to ask a favor of you tonight, Mr. Ward. Let's do things your way."
A favor? Rainey's mind buzzed. What could William possibly need from him? This was a golden opportunity.
"Mr. Brown, whatever you need, I'll do my best to help."
He had been looking for a chance to connect with William but had never found the right intermediary. And now, William had come to him. It was like a dream come true.
"Nora is one of your artists, right?"
Rainey was taken aback. He ran an entertainment company and, while he oversaw things, he wasn't involved in the day-to-day operations. He only knew the top stars.
"Mr. Brown, give me a moment."
Rainey called his secretary to confirm.
The secretary nodded. "Yes, she's with us, but she's not very well-known."
"Why does Mr. Brown ask?"
"Interested in her? I can have her sent to your place right away," Rainey offered eagerly, but William chuckled.
"I'm not you, Mr. Ward."
The sarcasm in William's voice made Rainey pause.
"Of course, Mr. Brown is different from us mere mortals."
William wasn't in the mood for small talk. He turned to the secretary. "I heard she recently got a role in a new show?"
"Yes..."
William lit a cigarette, taking a slow drag. "You get what I'm saying?"
The secretary, half understanding, nodded.
It wasn't until after William left that the secretary turned to Rainey, hesitant. "Mr. Ward, what did Mr. Brown mean?"
"Blacklist her."
"But Mr. Brown didn't say to blacklist her. And Nora is a new hire. If we blacklist her, we'll lose money."
Rainey thought it over. William hadn't explicitly said to blacklist her, just mentioned the new show. He took a drag of his cigarette to calm down. "Let's just pull her from the show for now. If Mr. Brown has more demands, then we'll blacklist her."
The secretary felt a chill for Nora. She had clearly crossed someone powerful.
---
"You're all talk and no action, aren't you?"
"You act all tough in front of Thalia, but then you help her behind the scenes? Do you think she'll be grateful or marry you?"
Daniel couldn't understand William's actions.
"You..."
"Get yourself a cab."
"What's that supposed to mean? Am I disposable? You're just ditching me? Did you learn that from Thalia?" Daniel complained. He wasn't used to being treated this way.
"You can stay if you want, but you'll have to come with me and get yelled at."
"My dad wants me to go home and get scolded. You want to join me?" William asked, toying with his fingers. Daniel thought about it and decided it wasn't worth it.
He was terrified of Vaughn, who had been his strict teacher.
"I'll get out..."
---
"Nora's in trouble," Layla said, keeping an eye on Linda's activities.
She was waiting for them to slip up.
In the entertainment industry, many wanted to bring Thalia down, but the first to try was Nora.
Such arrogance was rare.
In the dressing room, Thalia was trying on outfits. Marie had high standards for the ad, and Thalia couldn't afford to slack off. They had redone her makeup at least five times, and Marie was still not satisfied.
"What happened?"
"Her new show got canceled. The whole production is on hold."
Thalia was stunned. "She pissed off a big shot?"
"No idea."
"Interesting," Thalia said, signaling the makeup artist to give her a break.
By the time the photo shoot was done, it was dark. Thalia was exhausted.
The first thing she did when she got into her car was tell Isla to take her to the spa.
To her surprise, she saw a familiar face as soon as she walked in.
Fate truly worked in mysterious ways.
"Don't start a fight," Layla warned Thalia, noticing the person too.
"No promises..."
