Chapter 829 First Time Taking Care of Eddy Alone
Chapter 829 First Time Taking Care of Eddy Alone
At ten-thirty, William arrived home.
Seeing that Eddy was still awake, he decided to hold him for a while and bond with his son.
Less than a minute later, an engine roared in the yard.
Bang—the car door slammed shut with a deafening crash.
William lowered his head and covered his son's ears, already thinking about Thalia's trending topic . A storm was coming.
Just as he was about to hand Eddy to the nanny to take away...
"You set me up on purpose."
"Do you know what people are saying about me?"
"William, you finally decided to come home. If you hadn't come back soon, my mom was going to kill me."
Eddy was startled by Thalia's angry shouting and burst into tears.
With a dark expression, Thalia lashed out at everyone; from Grace to William, and even at Eddy. "What are you crying about?"
William's hand trembled as he held the child.
He quickly handed Eddy to the nanny and asked her to take him upstairs.
"The netizens are saying you're cute."
"You saw the trending topic?"
"I did. Most people are praising you. Don't be angry." William patiently coaxed her, trying to calm her down.
Thalia looked at him, her expression softening slightly. "Really?"
"Accept every moment of your life openly. I don't think this is bringing you down. Don't let other people's emotions affect you. They're just jealous that you have a happy life and a successful career at such a young age."
"Really?"
"Of course." William pulled her into his arms and comforted her.
Reassured by his gentle words, Thalia gradually calmed down and felt much better.
Grace changed her shoes and walked into the house. As she passed by the couple embracing in the living room, she tossed out a remark, clearly unbothered about stirring up trouble. "And you believe what men say!"
"I'm going to kill you."
Grace's casual comment hit Thalia like a bomb.
"I'm not the one who fooled you. Why are you taking it out on me?"
That night, William didn't just miss a good night's sleep—he didn't sleep at all.
In the middle of the night, he assumed Thalia was asleep.
It turned out she was hiding under the covers, scrolling through comments, nearly fuming with anger.
...
On Christmas Eve, the family had dinner at Mistwood Hill before heading their separate ways.
Everyone had their own achievements in their respective fields, and during Christmas, there were countless visits to make and receive.
After the servants at Mistwood Hill finished their Christmas Eve dinner with their employers, they left left one by one.
Fallon stayed behind.
For a while, apart from the security guards on duty, only this family of three remained in the house.
Plus one not-so-smart cat.
"You didn't give the servants this much time off last year!"
"I wanted to experience life as a family of three."
Thalia reminded him gently, "Let me remind you, being a family of three means you’ll be serving two people on your own."
William rubbed her waist and smiled faintly. "I'm prepared."
On Christmas Eve, the TV was on in the spacious living room. With fewer people around, the house felt unusually quiet.
The fireplace crackled warmly.
Thalia sprawled on the carpet, leaning against William's leg, sending messages in her group chats and posting on Facebook for work.
William took calls from business associates. They were brief, about three to five minutes each.
Eddy sat leaning against the sofa, babbling. The ragdoll cat wandered past and was promptly grabbed by him, letting out a startled cry.
A family of three, each occupied with their own small world.
As midnight approached, Eddy grew sleepy. William silenced his phone, tossed it onto the sofa, then picked Eddy up and carried him upstairs to feed him and put him to bed.
Thalia turned off the TV and living room lights before heading upstairs as well.
"Going to bed?"
"Pretty much." William held Eddy as he fed him.
Close to midnight, the view from the nursery overlooked the Mistwood Hill backyard lawn, where carefully arranged plants decorated the garden in neat rows.
Thalia glanced down at her phone.
11:58.
"William... bang..."
Outside the window, fireworks exploded. William was already prepared, holding the child close to his chest to keep him from being startled.
"What were you trying to tell me just now?" he asked gently, his eyes filled with warmth.
His soft voice from behind made her turn slightly to look at him. "Merry Christmas."
William reached out and pulled her into his arms. Holding his son with one arm, he cradled the back of Thalia's neck with the other and kissed her. "Merry Christmas."
...
That night, the couple took care of Eddy by themselves for the first time.
For William, it was a new challenge. For Thalia, it felt like pure torture.
The crying in the middle of the night left her feeling as if her soul were suspended in mid-air; unable to settle.
When she groggily opened her eyes and looked over by the bedside lamp, she saw William in silk pajamas, bent over at the foot of the bed, changing Eddy's diaper.
His movements were deft and practiced, as though it were second nature.
She rubbed her head and sat up, clutching the blanket, her voice still hoarse from sleep.
William picked up the baby and tossed the used diaper in the trash. After washing his hands, he returning to the bedside. "Did I wake you?"
Thalia frowned slightly. "What's wrong?"
"He pooped."
Thalia let out a long sigh, utterly drained. "My head hurts."
William sat beside her with their son, adjusted the blanket, and gently rubbed her back, coaxing her back to sleep.
Since giving birth, Thalia's sleep hadn't been as restful as before.
Whenever Eddy whimpered, she would wake up.
Even without opening her eyes, she would react instinctively.
William had considered moving the baby to sleep in the guest room, but he couldn’t bring himself to leave Thalia alone in the bedroom.
Fallon was responsible for preparing three meals a day and handling some light housework.
William, however, took care of Eddy full-time.
After two nights of poor sleep in a row, Thalia was exhausted and in low spirits.
Later, when they were bathing Eddy, the two of them struggled for quite a while. When Thalia bent down to pick up the towel from the floor and stood up again, her body suddenly swayed. She nearly toppled into the bathtub.
Fortunately, William reacted quickly and caught her.
Poor Eddy—William was holding onto one of his arms, and half of the baby’s body ended up dangling out of the basin.
Thalia shook her head. "I'm fine! Just a bit dizzy."
"Sit down. Let me finish bathing Eddy first, then I'll help you."
William added firmly, “Stay seated. Don’t move around. Do you understand?"
Thalia frowned, clearly unhappy. "Why are you being so mean?"
"Is this mean?” William replied, still shaken. “You nearly scared me to death just now."
After a pause, he said, “I’m going to have Fallon call everyone back in a bit."
