Chapter 83 Maybe with a little more effort, her nephew will come out
"Dr. Anderson, why aren't you going in?" Isla asked, puzzled. By now, the commotion upstairs should have died down.
She was about to check on Thalia when she saw Amara, who had just come out and closed the door behind her.
Amara stood at the doorway, looking rattled.
"Nothing, Thalia's asleep."
Amara walked over and wrapped an arm around Isla's shoulders, guiding her away.
She couldn't let Isla interrupt whatever William was up to. If William put in a little more effort, they might end up with a nephew.
Gotta protect William!
Isla craned her neck to look at the room. "Asleep? No way! Thalia needs the lights off to sleep at night."
"She's asleep, I saw it myself. Maybe she didn't turn off the lights 'cause she's scared in the hospital."
"Are you lying to me?"
Amara hissed, "Why would I lie? I don't have any beef with Thalia."
Isla thought about it and nodded.
Layla didn't hear about Thalia's incident until the next day. She had planned to visit her at the hospital, but Isla told her Thalia had gone home.
Thalia heard the doorbell and went to open the door. As soon as she did, she saw Layla standing there, looking upset and holding her phone.
"Aaron, yeah! After you all left last night, Thalia was drugged and passed out in the bathroom. Luckily, her assistant found her in time."
"Now? At the hospital!"
"I don't want to be a bother."
"Of course, I blame you, Aaron. You know Thalia's situation. She just had a fight with Andrew, and now a lot of people want to take her down. One slip and she could be gone. Last night, she barely made it out."
"Yeah, that's the entertainment industry for you."
"Alright, thanks, Aaron."
Layla hung up and stepped inside, taking off her shoes.
Thalia was lounging on the couch, hugging a pillow. "What were you talking about?"
"About last night. They left you alone after dinner. What kind of friends are they?"
"You might be okay now, but if something had happened, I'd make them pay."
Thalia felt touched, almost to the point of tears. She cuddled up to Layla like a cat. "You're better to me than my own mom."
"I owe you so much. How about I dedicate my life to you?"
Layla patted her head. "I wouldn't mind. My son said he wants a wife as pretty as you. How about you become his child bride?"
"So young and already looking for a wife?" Thalia said, disgusted.
"What were you talking to him about?" Layla seemed to have gotten some good news.
"Gregory recently got a deal with an international brand. They're looking for a female star for a magazine shoot. I asked Aaron to put in a good word for you."
"Gregory and an international brand? Separately, they might not be much, but together, it's top-tier."
"Thalia, you have to make it."
"You're my hope. If you don't make it, I won't be able to support my son."
Thalia sighed. "How's the lawyer search going?"
"I found one, but no one wants to take the case."
"Why? Don't they want to make money?" Thalia thought people were crazy. Have they all become so proud?
"An old college friend of mine in law told me that William has threatened anyone who takes your case. He said he could make them and their firm disappear from Emerald City."
Thalia was so shocked she fell off the couch.
"Who?"
"William."
Thalia: ..........
"What does he want?"
Layla sighed. "What did you do to him to make him so ruthless?"
"Was I his stepmom in a past life? Did I abuse him?" Thalia was curious. Why was William so fixated on her?
"Could it be that he likes you?" If a man had no interest in a woman, he wouldn't go to such lengths. Besides, William, a business elite with high standards, should be very particular about his partner.
Thalia's status in the entertainment industry would be a deal-breaker for many wealthy families.
What's his deal with not letting Thalia go?
"Don't be ridiculous. If he likes me, he might as well like a pig."
Layla looked at Thalia. Grace was right, Thalia's past with Hayden made her oblivious to romantic feelings.
Love? Such a thing didn't exist in her life.
Hayden's influence was strong. Otherwise, how could Thalia be so affected?
"Forget it. Just focus on your acting."
...
Thalia was set to start filming in two days. The next day, she went to the mall.
While picking out skincare products, Evelyn nudged Thalia with her elbow. "Isn't that William with Marie?"
Thalia followed Evelyn's gaze and nodded.
"You know, they look like they could conquer the world together. Quite a match."
A match?
Thalia was taken aback by the comment.
She glanced at Evelyn.
Realizing her mistake, Evelyn laughed. "We can't let them get together. How would we survive without Earth?"
Thalia: ..........
"How would you describe yourself in one sentence?"
"Explosively wealthy..."
Layla: .......
Some people have faces that don't matter.
Thalia lounged on the couch like a boneless cat, exuding a lazy charm.
Her phone rang on the table. She picked it up and saw it was a friend request from someone in the crew. Strange.
"Why is she adding me?"
"Who?" Layla asked.
"Someone from the crew."
"Just accept it."
Thalia accepted the friend request. Soon, a voice message came through: "Thalia, yesterday during dinner, I was talking to another crew member about you and Mr. Wood. Linda overheard us. She was at the same restaurant. I heard from the director that something happened to you, but they haven't found the culprit. Maybe this info can help."
Linda?
Thalia looked at Layla.
Layla was quick to catch on. "I'll get the list of people at that dinner."
