Chapter 73 The Case of the Boss Lady's Ex-boyfriend's Father
"What case?" In this law firm, every person here could rival an entire company. A lucrative case lands in their lap, and someone actually questions whether to take it?
Seriously?
Have they lost their minds?
"It's about Ms. Smith's ex-boyfriend's father's case."
Should they take it or not?
"Ms. Smith... Thalia?" Angelina's interest was piqued.
"Kick him out. Does he really have the guts to sue Mr. Brown's girl? Isn't he scared Mr. Brown will strip him down to nothing?"
Brian thought to himself, thank goodness the junior lawyers had some sense, otherwise, they'd be done for!
Everyone in the firm knew about William and Thalia. If they didn’t end up together, where would William's pride go?
Worried for William.
Angelina was particularly interested in Thalia and Walter's situation.
Her interest stemmed from the Smith and Wood families' introduction event, which coincided with their firm's team-building retreat. William had booked an entire manor hotel and watched Thalia's ceremony from the balcony.
William's stance was like a predator eyeing its prey.
No matter who she was with at the moment, he would always bring his prey to his lips.
Walter, that fool, thought he could compete with William? No chance.
...
"Still haven't found Ruby?"
"No," Chase's face darkened as he answered Luna's inquiry.
Luna tightened her grip on her fork. "Didn't you send someone to follow Thalia?"
"We did. You know how composed she can be. Thalia is far more complex than she appears."
They call her the innocent starlet of the entertainment world? In reality, she's a smart woman who knows how to hide her intelligence.
"We can't even see your dad now. If Ruby doesn’t side with us, won't Thalia have the final say on everything? Most of the inheritance will be hers."
"Dad is just in a coma, not dead. Aren't you afraid he might wake up one day?" Elizabeth sat across from them, watching.
Chase scoffed. "Wake up? Only if we allow it! He spent his younger years with numerous women, fathering a dozen illegitimate children. Let him live? How will we get rich? Wait for him to wake up one day and split the inheritance with those illegitimate kids?"
Elizabeth glanced at him and stayed silent.
The Smith family's affairs couldn’t be explained in a few words.
That morning, Thalia went to the office.
Layla saw her and affectionately linked arms with her. "From now on, whenever there's a chance to be in the spotlight, you must participate."
"Isn't someone bringing money to us?"
"Who?" Thalia had received a call from Layla earlier, saying someone wanted to discuss a million-dollar ad campaign.
And they insisted on talking to Thalia personally.
Layla's representation wasn’t enough.
Layla said, "Go to the meeting room and you'll see."
Thalia, puzzled, pushed open the door to find Marie sitting there, holding a cup of coffee and enjoying the view outside.
"Ms. Wilson?" Thalia was surprised.
Marie had never mingled with them when she was in Emerald City. Why was she here now?
"Thalia, let's not be so formal. Just call me Marie."
Marie spoke warmly, and Thalia smiled, feeling at ease. "Alright, Marie."
"I came today to ask if you'd endorse a phone brand from my company."
The Wilson family had a wide range of businesses and was now venturing into the communications market, launching their own phone.
Thalia felt flattered. "With so many artists in Emerald City, how did you choose me?"
"Emerald City may have many artists, but... I'm only familiar with you!"
"You know, my current situation is quite unique. I returned from a divorce abroad to take over the family business. There are many people waiting to see me fail. Every step I take is cautious, even choosing an endorser. After much deliberation, I trust only you."
Thalia admired Marie. There were rumors that Marie married her wealthy husband just for the money.
Smart and resourceful. Otherwise, how could she have hired William's firm for her divorce case?
"It's an honor to have your trust."
Marie beamed. "Then it's settled. We'll set a time to sign the contract."
"Sure."
"How about dinner tonight?"
"There's a good restaurant near our office. My treat."
Marie agreed.
They had just sat down and the dishes were served when Marie received a call.
She mentioned she was having dinner, seemingly updating someone on her whereabouts.
Thalia listened, finding it increasingly interesting.
Marie had just divorced, and she already had a boyfriend?
Indeed, a role model for women. Thalia decided she would learn from Marie and not waste time on men.
"Thalia, do you mind if we have another guest?"
Bringing someone to meet her?
How exciting.
Would she get to meet Marie's boyfriend?
Thalia's mind raced, but she shook her head outwardly. "I don't mind."
Marie gave the address and table number over the phone and hung up.
"I heard your dad isn't doing well. If you need any help, just let me know."
"I saw the video of you dealing with Walter last night. It's a pity you didn't strip him down. You can't be soft on such scumbags."
Thalia: ...
"If only I had half your guts back then, I could've dealt with those shameless people during my divorce."
Thalia had just taken a sip of water and choked, coughing.
"Isn't it inappropriate to share these stories with an unmarried girl?"
Just as Thalia reached for a napkin, a hand extended over hers, offering a few tissues.
Elon?
What were Elon and Marie up to? Was he the one Marie was talking to on the phone?
Marie apologized to Thalia. "I didn't think it through. Sorry."
Thalia waved it off. "It's fine. I grew up hearing my dad's love life stories. This is nothing."
Thalia then turned her attention to Elon. "Mr. Wilson, nice to see you again."
"I happened to be nearby for a business meeting and thought I'd pick her up. I didn't expect you two to be having dinner, so I decided to join. Ms. Smith, you don't mind, do you?"
Elon seemed polite and courteous.
His explanation made Thalia feel much more comfortable.
