Chapter 282 Hoping for the Other's Death
"Sir? About this?" John glanced at the front of the car, saw it was badly damaged, and was about to ask how to handle it.
As soon as he looked up, he saw the other person examining the inside of the car, as if trying to see who was sitting inside.
John thought to himself, 'Good thing I kept my guard up.'
When he got out, he'd taken the keys with him.
Now seeing the other person's scrutiny, he raised his hand and locked the car without hesitation.
This action made Stefan withdraw his gaze. Looking at John, he said, "It is indeed our mistake. If it's convenient, we could, we could exchange contact information. However you want to handle this, we'll cooperate."
John replied, "Just go through insurance. No need to exchange contact information."
William had warned them long ago to be extra careful with anyone they encountered recently and not let their guard down. This person, from every angle, didn't seem like a simple fender bender—it looked deliberate.
The collision, the scrutiny, asking for contact information.
With this whole sequence, wouldn't it be easy to make a connection?
"What are they talking about? Why did John lock the car?" Evelyn tried to crane her neck forward to look through the windshield to see what was going on, but Thalia pressed down on her shoulder.
"What's wrong?"
"Aren't you afraid that if the other person has a grudge against William, they might see you and mistake you for William's girlfriend and come after you?"
Hearing Thalia's words, Evelyn thought it made sense. Not only did she shrink back, but she also crouched down behind the passenger seat, hiding her entire body. "My dad said that for William to climb to this position in such a short time, he must have sacrificed a lot. What he sacrificed might be money, but what others sacrificed was definitely their lives. This man has so much blood on his hands—what if someone's here to seek revenge, and I get caught up in it? Wouldn't I have nowhere to seek justice?"
Thalia's mouth twitched. Are people really this easy to fool these days?
First Evelyn, then Amara.
She nodded knowingly. "Good that you understand."
"Aren't you scared?" Evelyn asked.
"I am!" Thalia said, her eyes reddening. After all, she was a pure and innocent actress from the entertainment industry—she could cry on command.
"If Mr. Brown gets killed by his enemies someday, wouldn't all his luxury cars, mansions, and money become yours?"
"Marriage is great!" Thalia suddenly felt life had something to look forward to.
"What's so great about marriage?"
"If you don't get married, you can only wait to die alone. After marriage, you can look forward to the other person dying. Like right now, I'm thinking, if William dies, all his assets would be mine."
Evelyn nodded. "I think I can understand why some women like to find men older than themselves. Wouldn't that life be full of hope?"
Thalia nodded repeatedly, agreeing with Evelyn's statement. "Exactly."
In front of the car, Stefan was still pestering.
John remained unmoved. "Sir, if you don't want to pay compensation, forget it. We can still afford to fix a car. Could you have your people move the car and make way?"
Stefan had come specifically for William. After much investigation, he learned that William had a Rolls-Royce with license plate 00009, which was easy to identify. He'd waited a long time for today, but didn't see the person.
He never expected that someone raised by a cultured person like Vaughn would have such a strong sense of caution.
Daily trips always involved at least three cars, and he frequently switched vehicles, so no one knew which car he was actually in.
Only once, someone happened to photograph him personally driving to a golf club, and that car was this Rolls-Royce 00009 right in front of him.
"We'd feel terrible about it."
"No need for that," John said.
"I see you're just a driver. Can you even make decisions? Won't you get scolded when you go back?"
"That's none of your concern, sir. Please move the car."
...........
"Mr. Brown," when Finn received the news, he rushed to William's office. Just as he entered and saw Angelina there, he stopped the words about to come out of his mouth.
Until William waved his finger. "Speak."
"Mrs. Brown took that 00009 out today and got hit. The car that hit them was a Bentley with a Regal City license plate."
William's expression turned cold. He withdrew his hand from the mouse. "How is she?"
"Mrs. Brown is probably fine, but John got caught up with them."
"What do you mean 'probably fine'? Are you trying to tell me with your vague answer that you didn't do your job properly?"
Angelina was startled by William's dark and cold voice. This man really had no principles when it came to Thalia.
"Just call Thalia and ask the person involved, wouldn't that work? Hurry up and ask, show some concern for her." Angelina changed the subject and gave William advice.
Only then did the man's emotions settle somewhat. He took out his phone and called Thalia.
When she answered, her voice was quite calm. "What's up?"
"Car accident?"
"Yeah."
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, don't worry!"
"We'll talk when I get home later." She still wanted to secretly watch the drama unfold! Why call now?
"Mr. Brown really cares about you!"
"Of course! If I die, all the inheritance I got from my dad would be his."
Evelyn thought to herself, whether this couple had feelings for each other or not, she didn't know, but they certainly had plenty of schemes.
When John got in the car, the other person stood by the roadside watching them leave.
Originally planning to drive back to Mistwood Hill, they now drove the car with its missing front bumper to the Celestia Group.
As soon as the car was parked, William's figure appeared in the parking lot.
Thalia and Evelyn got out with their bags and glanced at the front of the car, thinking it really was a mess.
..........
"What are you doing?"
"It itches!"
"William!"
As soon as William entered the office and closed the door, he grabbed Thalia's arm and examined it from left to right, as if trying to see whether she was injured.
Only after a thorough check did he feel relieved.
"A Regal City license plate! Amara said your birth mother is in Regal City. Are they her people?"
"Yeah."
"Going to such lengths—do they want you dead or want to find you?"
"One group wants me dead, another wants to find me."
Thalia added, "So who wants you dead, and who wants to find you?"
"Not sure. Sit down, I'll be busy for a bit. Ask Brian if you want something to drink."
"Okay!" Thalia obediently found a spot to curl up in.
As soon as she took out her phone, she saw a message from Layla.
Layla: [The schedule from the production team, take a look. A lifestyle puzzle variety show, three days of live streaming.]
Thalia: [Three days? Live streaming?]
Layla: [Yes.]
Thalia: [That's way too much!]
Layla: [Aaron's arrangement. If you don't want your invested drama to be a hit, then don't go.]
Thalia: [I'll go!]
