Chapter 115 A Thin Smoke Spreads Around His Waist
"Mr. Brown, Ms. Smith went to see Dashiell."
At the law firm, William had just finished meeting with a client and hadn't made it back to his office when Finn's call came through.
William paused mid-step.
Hearing this, Angelina clicked her tongue. "Well, what do they say? Where there's a will, there's a way. Ms. Smith would rather hit a wall than come to you. Are you worried?"
William glanced at Angelina. "If I sent you to the border right now, would you be worried?"
Angelina: .......
"Ms. Jolie, don't forget—I'm the boss."
Angelina: ........ "No wonder you're single."
William entered his office and pressed the intercom to call Brian in. "Go wait outside Dashiell's office."
Brian looked puzzled. "You need something from Dashiell?"
Finn coughed and grabbed Brian by the back of the neck, leading him away.
Just as they got in the elevator, Brian looked at Finn curiously. "Who does Mr. Brown want us to pick up?"
"His wife."
Thalia came out of Dashiell's law firm looking worried.
Isla had been waiting in the lounge and hurried over when she saw Thalia emerge. "How did it go?"
Thalia sighed. "Not great."
The two had just reached the car when Brian appeared. "Ms. Smith, Mr. Brown sent me to bring you to the firm."
"What for?"
"Mr. Brown didn't say."
Thalia narrowed her eyes and looked Brian up and down. "Mr. Brown wants me to come, so I have to go?"
Brian was stumped and hesitated before speaking. "Well..."
"Mr. Brown probably wants to talk to you about the Smith family case."
"William is that considerate?"
Brian nodded. "Yes, yes he is."
Whatever else you could say about William, he treated his staff well.
Thalia didn't want to argue with him. As she was about to get in the car, something occurred to her. With one foot already on the step, she slowly drew it back. "Brian, want to get in and chat?"
Inside the car, Brian sat obediently next to Thalia, quite nervous.
"What does Ms. Smith want to ask me?"
"I haven't even opened my mouth yet and you already know I want to ask you something?"
Brian shrank back a bit. He wasn't stupid.
Thalia was the type who never did anything without a reason.
When she needed something from William, she'd show up at the firm every day.
When she didn't want to ask William for anything, you wouldn't see her for weeks.
Thinking about it, their firm had really been riding high for a while there.
How much had everyone benefited from being around William?
Look at now—they had to pay for their own afternoon tea.
Plus, the tea shop where Thalia treated people wasn't a place just anyone could get into, and even if you got in, you couldn't afford it!
Brian nodded. "Ms. Smith, ask away. I'll tell you everything I know."
"Is your Mr. Brown involved with organized crime?"
Brian: ........ This... probably not.
He didn't really know.
Brian steadied himself. "Not sure. I'm not important enough to know about that."
Thalia didn't believe him. "Aren't you his secretary?"
"I'm only Mr. Brown's secretary at the law firm. For external matters, Mr. Brown has dedicated people handling things."
Thalia got it and nodded, glancing at Isla. "So what you're saying is, all I know about your boss so far is his lawyer side?"
"Well... not entirely! You've gotten to know my boss's body too, haven't you?"
Isla, who had just picked up her cup to drink water, sprayed it out when the car suddenly braked.
Thalia quickly grabbed the handle, glaring at John. "Can you even drive?"
John gripped the steering wheel, his expression unchanged. "Sorry, Ms. Smith."
Brian, seeing everyone's strong reaction, looked confused. "Isn't that right? Or did I say something wrong?"
Thalia raised her hand to rub her forehead. "Brian! If I left you here, how long would it take you to walk back?"
Brian shrank his neck and looked around at the surroundings. Seeing the car was on a bridge, he kindly reminded her, "Ms. Smith, stopping on the bridge will get you fined and reported."
"Forget it. Getting famous over someone like me isn't worth it."
Thalia glanced at him. "At your firm, besides Angelina, who else is close to William?"
"Mr. Wilson and Nicholas."
Thalia's patience dropped sharply. "Tell me about people I don't know."
"I... don't know either. I'm not even senior management, how would I know that much?"
Brian looked at Thalia pitifully, almost in tears.
Thalia looked at him, so frustrated she was about to explode.
..........
"Guess who I saw?"
"Who?" Thalia's van had just stopped downstairs at William's firm when Evelyn's call came through.
"Emma and Scarlett are hanging out together. Isn't that wild?"
These two used to look down on each other, practically wanting to kill each other.
Now they were hanging out together.
Thalia stood by the car, suddenly remembering what Angelina had said: "The Wood family and the Lewis family are joining forces, planning to go after the Smith family."
So they were getting together because of shared interests?
"Send me a photo."
"Gotta go." Evelyn hung up and sent over several photos, plus a short video.
Standing in the elevator, Thalia narrowed her eyes, looking at the video on her phone, her expression deep, thoughts churning in her mind.
She'd grown up with Hayden and had seen plenty of business world scheming. Hayden had held the top position in Emerald City's business world for years, and it wasn't through kindness.
She looked down on the various tactics used in wealthy family feuds.
But if someone touched her interests, she wouldn't just let them walk all over her.
The merciful don't command troops, the righteous don't handle money.
That was the first life lesson Hayden taught her.
"Ms. Smith, we're here."
The elevator doors opened, and Brian held the door.
Thalia stepped out, pausing at the elevator entrance. "John, come here."
John walked over to Thalia, and she whispered something in his ear. John, who usually showed no expression, looked surprised and even a bit shocked as he looked at Thalia.
"You know what to do?"
John nodded. "I know."
"Go on then."
Thalia watched John get in the elevator. As soon as she turned around, she saw William standing at his office door with a cigarette, watching her.
William wore a black shirt, his tall figure striking. Thalia watched him bring the cigarette to his lips, take a drag, and exhale smoke while looking at her.
The thin smoke dispersed at his waist and drifted downward, drawing Thalia's gaze to places she shouldn't be looking.
Thalia started walking, her slender waist swaying gracefully with each step.
Making William's gaze deepen.
"Ms. Smith, what would you like to drink?"
As soon as Thalia entered the office, Brian came in to ask.
"I'd like coffee made by Mr. Brown himself. Wonder if I have that honor."
Brian looked up at William, who slightly waved the fingers holding his cigarette, signaling him to leave.
