Chapter 113 You Are Pregnant
In the living room of the Smith Villa, Thalia looked at the room full of gifts, feeling a sense of déjà vu.
She glanced at William and saw his expression unchanged, completely unfazed by today's scene.
"Come here, sit." Grace glanced at her and patted the seat beside her.
Thalia walked over and sat down.
She greeted Vaughn with reasonable politeness.
"Sorry for the sudden visit, hope we didn't disturb you."
"You did," Thalia spoke bluntly, not even bothering with pleasantries.
Her straightforward and somewhat rude manner made William freeze mid-sit.
He raised his eyebrows and stared at Thalia—she really couldn't even be bothered to pretend.
Vaughn had been a teacher his whole life—what kind of student hadn't he seen? Besides, he'd prepared himself before coming and had a rough idea of Thalia's personality. He smiled tolerantly: "Then I'll get straight to the point."
Straight to the point?
About what?
A marriage proposal?
Thalia felt like her brain had never worked this fast in her life—so fast it was giving her a headache.
Seeing Vaughn about to speak, Thalia cut to the chase: "Vaughn, what I said at your house that day was mainly to upset Chase. Just take it as me speaking without thinking, don't take it to heart."
Vaughn held his cup, looking seriously at Thalia: "You two didn't have any physical relationship?"
Thalia shook her head: "No."
Vaughn glanced at William, seeing his slightly furrowed brow: "But William said you did."
Thalia: .........
Their eyes met. Thalia swallowed and cleared her throat, carefully looking at William: "Did Mr. Brown mistake me for someone else?"
William frowned, his gaze falling on Thalia with surprise and displeasure.
Mistake her for someone else?
Thalia really only cared about saving her own skin, not anyone else's.
Any words coming out of her mouth sounded so casual.
"Is that so? If Ms. Smith doesn't want to admit it, then let's say I got the wrong person!"
What did he mean "let's say" he got it wrong?
Thalia rolled her eyes at William, then turned her gaze to Vaughn: "Vaughn, relationships need to be mutual. Mr. Brown and I, our personalities don't match....... and......"
As Thalia spoke, she choked up: "My dad is dying, I'm in no mood for romance right now."
William: .........
Vaughn: ..........
...........
At Aurora Tower, Angelina glanced at Evelyn: "Are you really that against Thalia getting involved with William?"
Evelyn rolled her eyes at Angelina: "Knowing he's a schemer, you still want your best friend involved with him? Isn't that hurting her?"
Angelina didn't think so: "Mr. Brown may be calculating, but he's a good person."
Evelyn laughed: "That's like telling me, sure he's a wife-killer, but he's a filial son."
Angelina: ......She really had a way with words.
"Don't you think Mr. Brown is the best choice for Thalia?"
"How so?" Evelyn asked.
"Good in every way."
"Yeah, right," Evelyn countered with one word.
"Unlimited money, no bad habits, no scandalous history, clean family background, loyal in relationships—men like that are hard to find!"
"If such a rare man exists, why would he fall into Thalia's lap? Has she been doing good deeds her whole life?" Evelyn glanced at Angelina, her eyes full of doubt: "Doesn't Mr. Brown have some hidden issue?"
"Didn't Thalia already test the goods?"
Everything that should have happened, everything that should have been touched—they'd been through it all. Why bring this up now?
"The world is way too fair to men. If they can't perform, there are all kinds of weird drugs to maintain the illusion that they can. Thalia tested the goods once, but she's not testing them every day."
Angelina laughed in exasperation, and the fork in her hand clattered onto the plate.
"No matter what I say, you'll think it's fake anyway."
Evelyn picked up her glass and took a sip: "Schemer."
"Who's a schemer?" Daniel walked in just in time to hear that.
"Mr. Brown! Who else?"
"I heard Vaughn went to Thalia's house to propose marriage?" Daniel was energized when he heard the news.
Just thinking about Thalia, that troublemaker from school days, meeting Vaughn the teacher—he was inexplicably excited.
Wouldn't Thalia be like a bird with clipped wings from now on? Obedient as can be?
"Who told you that?" Evelyn was shocked. How did he know about something that just happened?
Daniel pulled out his phone and handed it to Evelyn: "Check Facebook."
"Everyone knows, okay?"
In less than an hour, news of the Brown family proposing marriage to the Smith family had exploded in Emerald City.
Evelyn held the phone and scrolled through.
「I'm shook! Thalia should start a class! I'll learn on my knees」
「William is the hardest man to get in all of Emerald City」
「My dad said if I could land William he'd give me inheritance rights. Is it too late to get on Thalia's good side?」
「You might not know this, but William's dad is the Dean of Finance at Westbridge University」
「Holy crap........no wonder Mr. Brown has such sharp business instincts, turns out his dad has those skills!」
"Wait, who spread this?"
Daniel took back his phone and shrugged: "You're asking me? Who do I ask?"
Oh crap, Evelyn thought, this is bad.
She opened the search terms, and before she could mentally prepare herself, she saw the Facebook trending topic: 「Pure Actress from Entertainment Industry Marries After Pregnancy」
Evelyn: ........"No way!"
When Thalia received Layla's call, she had just seen William and Vaughn off and hadn't had time to catch her breath.
"You're pregnant?"
"Has your brain short-circuited? What nonsense are you talking?" As soon as Layla's question came out, Thalia shot back.
"You're trending," Layla suppressed her temper and took a few deep breaths before speaking.
Thalia didn't even hang up the phone before opening Facebook to look.
"Which bastard spread this rumor?"
"I'd like to know too," Layla's head was about to explode. When Hayden was around, it was fine—no scandals came out. But recently, with Hayden on his deathbed, those gossip reporters seemed to have targeted her, buying trending topics for her over the smallest rumors.
Wishing her nothing but infamy and eternal disgrace.
"Looks like I can't survive in the entertainment industry anymore."
"You should go beg in front of William's law firm. Ever since you met this man, your life has been like an EKG—full of ups and downs."
