Part 39

Part 39
I was not trying to be dramatic but it felt like I had the worst luck in the world. Aston appeared so angry like he wanted to punch Edward. It was scary because I had never seen him like that.

The question hung in the air for a few seconds and I was hesitant to talk about it in front of Aiden. The last thing my baby needed was even more drama for a day. He already had too much to deal with.

"Can we talk inside?" I softly blinked at Ashton. He stared at Edward for a few seconds before nodding his head.

Aiden had a bright smile on his face as soon as he saw Ashton enter inside the apartment. It was expected because they both had formed a good bond over the past few years. From the look on Edward's face, it was clear he did not like it. Too bad that he has to endure it because not only Ashton was my friend and Aiden's caretaker but also he was my boyfriend. It felt too weird to say that out so I just patiently waited behind as Aiden rushed towards us.

"Hi"

"Hey, bud... Having fun?" Ashton leaned down to his eye level

Aiden nodded his head like an excited puppy he was and pointed towards the legos sprawled on the floor.

"Dad is helping me build them" At those words, Ashton stilled and forced a smile on his face. He definitely had questions running through his mind by the way he was giving me a look.

I felt guilty for not informing him beforehand about my decision. The only reason I could not get through him was that he was really busy and also I did not want him to worry unnecessarily.

He cleared his throat, "That's great. I will catch up with you soon"

Aiden frowned at that, "Are you leaving?"

"No, I just have to talk with your mum about something"

"Okay," Aiden grinned and ran back towards Edward slumping on his lap in the process. I held my breath scared that Edward would snap at him for that. Instead of yelling at him Edward just laughed and held him closer. My heartfelt warm at that.

"Edward?" I whispered staring in their direction. He raised his eyebrows towards me.

"Can you please look after Aiden for a few minutes? I'll be back soon"

With his jaw clenched he nodded his head. At his silence, I let out a sigh and asked Ashton to follow me inside the room. I could feel the awkwardness in the air as we shuffled out of the living room.

"What in the world is he doing here? And you told Aiden about him?" Ashton questioned as soon as we were inside the closest guest room. I flinched back at the roughness in his voice. He was standing rigidly and had a tight expression on his face.

"I'm sorry about that"

I took a deep breath before continuing, "Edward found out about Aiden through my files so I had to tell him everything. After that, he wanted to meet him..."

"So you let him?" Ashton snorted

I crossed my arms at his tone, "Yes because he is his father after all"

Ashton bitterly laughed, "Father? Yeah right! Where was he all these years when you both need him? You are being so naive Aria."

I flushed at his tone. It stung a bit that he thought that I did not think it through. The decision to let Edward in took me a lot of time and I promised myself to not regret it or rethink about it.

"I am not. He would have taken it to the court if I did not let him see Aiden. Besides, he is Aiden's father"

Ashton shook his head, "So you got scared? We could have easily fought him in court. That guy has been absent in your lives pretty much for 6 years so it would have made a solid case against him"

I felt anger coursing through my veins at that. How can Ashton suggest that I put us both through all those things? Aiden was just five and he did not need all this drama.

"That's because he had no idea about his son." I defended Edward

"Are you defending him right now? The guy who broke your heart?" Ashton huffed, shaking his head as he looked outside the room. I followed his line of vision but there was no one outside.

I sighed, "I don't want to fight Ashton but just know that I won't make a decision without thinking it through. I really thought that you would support me"

His face changed at my words and he exhaled deeply. I stood there rooted on the ground with my arms crossed against my chest defensively. He inched closer and I could smell his expensive cologne.

"Of course I support you. It's just... Seeing him in your living room took me by surprise."

"I just told him today if that makes you feel any better" I added which made Ashton nod his head.

"I thought he was... never mind. I am really sorry if I sounded like an asshole. I'm just..." Ashton sighed once again

"You're what?" I questioned him

"I am jealous of him" Ashton uttered

I frowned, "You have no reason to be"

"I do. He got to meet you before me and well...you both have a son together. He's now Aiden's father. I love Aiden, trust me I do but he will prefer Edward over me obviously" Ashton lowered his eyes.

I couldn't breathe at that confession from him. Ashton had every reason to be jealous. Edward did have an impact on both of us.

"You don't know that. Aiden loves you" I weakly protested trying to make him feel better.

That was not going to last, my words but I hoped that Ashton felt them. Even though Edward came after Ashton into my son's life he was going to be number one for sure. There was just something about the way he turns people and charms them.

"For how long is the question" Ashton chuckled, his voice hollow and echoing around the room.

It was an uncomfortable silence for a few seconds before Ashton himself apologized for being heavy and insecure. I assured him that everything will take its time and be right. He seemed unconvinced but nodded along and walked out of the room.

"I bought the pizza!" Ashton exclaimed as soon as he entered the living room. I noticed that Aiden was still leaning against Edward and watching something on his dad's phone.

He looked up when Ashton flicked at his locks.

"I'm watching Legos"

"I can see that. You didn't hear me I said I bought your favourite pizza. Barbecue chicken with extra barbecue sauce"

Aiden huffed and patted his stomach dramatically, "I had grilled cheese"

Ashton frowned at me, "You guys already had lunch?"

I winced at his stare. Edward looked tense but didn't move his eyes from the phone. He was however fully invested in the conversation by the way he was leaning backwards.

"Edward made grilled cheese. I'm sorry I had no idea that you were bringing us lunch"

Ashton glared at Edward for that before nodding his head, "That's fine. Maybe we can have dinner together"

I nodded my head, "Yeah sure I would love that"

Ashton grinned at me before handing me the pizza box. I walked back to the kitchen and slumped against the stand. Why was everything so difficult? The tension in the room was so thick that you could almost cut with a knife. I had no idea that it was so worse between Ashton and Edward that they can't even greet each other. It was like watching who could be more childish in between both of them. Only not funny.

Taking a deep breath I walked outside the kitchen only to see that Edward was glaring at Ashton. I immediately noticed that Aiden was now sitting beside Ashton and animatedly talking about something. A sigh left my lips at the sight in front of me. I had fun days ahead of me, didn't I?

I thought that Edward would be leaving by dinner time because he knew about my plans. At least he heard that Ashton was going to stay back for dinner. It seemed like he was doing it on purpose by staying back.

Edward and Ashton were still sitting on the floor while Aiden was in between both of them. After legos, they moved on and played some cards but Aiden was cheating so they quit. It was funny to see how they both did not call him out and where entertaining him for a few minutes. It was like they both were trying to win him over which was embarrassing. Instead of entertaining them, even more, I tried to get some work done. As much as fun it would be to see them bickering I tried to stay away. It was a surprise that day had not to kill each other after a few minutes of being together. Maybe they did have some self-control.

"Mummy?" Aiden whispered as I was typing in my laptop.

"Yes, love?"

He pouted, "pizza"

Edward who was sitting beside him stared back at me. He took his phone from the floor and poked Aiden.

"Do you want pizza for dinner?"

Aiden nodded his head

"I can order"

Ashton spoke for the first time while looking towards Edward. it was strange to witness because they were ignoring each other from the past few hours.

"I already got his favourite pizza in the fridge"

Edward licked his lips, "It's not fresh. I can order him a new one"

"But he has already got one. He doesn't need things" Ashton bit back, glaring at Edward. Aiden was quiet, staring curiously at both of them.

"Change is always important Ashton. You should try it"

It felt like they were not talking about the pizza anymore. Not funny at all. I stood up from my seat and marched towards them.

"Okay enough of this. I will order a pizza and till then Aiden can eat some from the fridge"

Edward sheepishly smiled at me and forwarded his phone. I shook his head and signalled him towards my phone.

"I can wait for dinner if you want" Edward slyly responded to Aiden

"Yes!" Aiden threw his hand in the air while Ashton looked at me. He was clenching his fists by his side while his jaw was set. Ashton didn't want him with us. There was nothing I could do to avoid the situation.

"Yay, it'll be fun!" Edward whispered, trying to match his excitement with Aiden. I tried not to frown at his response. It was anything but that.

It's coming to an end soon show some love :))
