ALYSSA’S POV.
I muttered a silent prayer as I stared at the moon, praying to the moon goddess to protect Trevor from Richard. Fears crawled through me over the reminder of what terrible vision I had gotten.
“ Please protect him, moon goddess.” I whispered, the second finger on my right hand firmly on my lips.
I wondered what he must be doing now and where he would be.
“ You should go to sleep, Luna.” Head servant Eleanor said.
“ I can’t, Eleanor. Not without knowing the Alpha is safe.” I responded, still looking out the window hoping he would show up soon.
I sighted the guards standing very close to the house and pulled the curtain back in place. I paced up and down the room and finally settled in a chair.
“ Where are you, Trevor?.” I whisper into the air.
“ I am sure, he and the others are safe Luna. You just need to calm down a bit.” Eleanor said and moved closer to me to run her right hand gently over my shoulder down.
“ I hope so too, Eleanor. I’m just worried.” I said then turned towards the hefty guard standing at the door, the one meant to protect her. “ Any sign of the wolf that escaped?.” I asked, not wanting to call him by his name. I desperately wanted to know why Richard would decide to attack them or even think of killing her new mate.
Was it because he was jealous?.
She doubted so. He never loved her after all.
“ No Luna.” He responded in his very deep masculine voice.
“ Okay.” I replied and stared back at the empty space in front of me.
I needed it, anything, an assurance, a vision, anything at all to tell that my Mate was safe.
Uneasy, I stood up and walked back to the window to stare at the moon, the Red line in between now getting broader.
“ Isn’t that a bad omen?.” I asked Eleanor who walked over to stare at it too.
“ I have no idea, Luna. We have never witnessed something like this before.” She responded.
All I did was nod in response.
I walked away from the window again but this time I can’t sit so I just paced up and down the room.
“ The Alpha is here?.” The guard informed and I turned around immediately to look at the open door that let my mate in.
“ Trevor!.” I yelled and ran into his arms. “ I missed you so much. I was so scared that you…” I pause on seeing that he didn’t return my hug.
I stepped back and look into his eyes.
“ Is everything fine? Did we get attacked? Did you get the escaped prisoner?.” I asked curiously.
“ Your ex mate you mean.” He snapped and I wondered where this was coming from.
“ I am only saying this because he came here and attacked us.”
“ Or maybe that was what you wanted.” He scoffed. “ How excited you must be that he is back for you. It must be so exciting.”
“ What are you talking about, Trevor?.”
“ I saw the way your eyes lit up when I mentioned that he was here. I saw the eagerness, the yearn to see him one again and hold him or kiss him maybe. I sighted the disappointment your countenance held when you found his cell empty.”
“ What are you talking about, Trevor?.” I asked and quickly added. “ It’s not what you think.”
But how was I to explain to him that I had seen a vision of Richard beheading him? How could I without him accusing me of maybe more? Maybe of conspiracy.
“ Isn’t that what you have always wanted? Huh!. Isn’t killing me what you have always dreamed of?.” He might say so she knew better than to complicate things.
“ Go to bed, Alyssa.” He said and turned around to leave the room.
I knew I couldn’t watch him leave just like that. Not after being worried sick.
I held his right arm from behind.
“ Don’t go.” I said but it came out more like a plea, like a desperate plea to not be left alone again by people who I loved or who loved me.
“ Let go.” He said and freed his arm. Without turning around to look at me, he added. “ Go to bed, Alyssa.”
“ Okay. We can talk about this when we wake tomorrow, right?.” She asked then added “ Let’s go to our room.” When he wouldn’t respond.
“ I won’t be coming up tonight. I have something of importance to attend to so do take care.” With this, he walked out of the room without a second thought or glance.
I stood there, at that one spot, shocked to the core on how easily he had switched from being so lovely to being this cold.
“ You should go upstairs now, Luna.” Eleanor advised when she stepped closer and held me gently by my arm.
I said nothing as I compelled and walked out of the room, heading for mine.
I pushed the door of our room open and stepped in while Eleanor left for hers and unlike before, it felt so different, weird and cold. I sat at the edge with my phone in my hand and clicked on one of the songs.
I fell backwards as it comes on play, singing softly into my ear.
“ You fill me up till you’re empty. I took too much and you let me. We’ve been down all this road before….”
Ghost town by Benson Boone.
For the first time in a long while, I felt myself yearn for his arms around me again, for his warmth on mine and his lips on mine.
TREVOR’S POV.
I squeezed the Kojie San bar so tightly as the images of how happy she was when I had informed her of her ex mate’s return flooded my mind. I hadn’t noticed how much I was melting my anger out on it till it broke into two and one dropped on the floor.
I let it go, placing back in its place, just beside the shower tap. I let the very cold water flow down my skin starting from my hair and I heaved out sighs.
I finally got out of the shower and grabbed one of the towels hanging there, throwing it around my neck as I walked back into my room.
The guest room.
It felt different and weird for me. So weird because I was used to my old room but I knew that I couldn’t sleep beside her this night. Not after the act of betrayal she showed.
I found a comfortable Grey jogger pant to change in to and a Grey top then I proceeded to lay on the bed. It felt strange against my skin, the smell of the room different from hers. It made me want to stomp upstairs and tell her he had changed his mind and that he wanted to lay right next to her, take in her scent and kiss her on the forehead.
But he couldn’t.
He just couldn’t.
After rolling in bed for more than five times of finding it hard to sleep, he finally gave up and got out of bed to head to the bar.
He poured himself a cup of Cabernet Sauvignon and sipped it slowly as he sat down and stared into the empty space in front of him.
“ I knew I would find you here.” A familiar voice said from behind and he turned around to see Nolan walking towards him.
“ Is it time for training?.” I asked despite knowing that we were still in the middle of the dead night. It was more like a ‘what do you want’ question.
“ No. I just wanted to see you, Master.” Nolan responded.
“ Okay.” I replied.
“ Can I sit?.” Nolan asked.
“ Feel free to.” I replied.
“ Thanks.” Nolan responded and settled down in the seat right beside him.
“ Pour yourself some drink.” I said and handed him a glass cup.
Nolan did as instructed and sipped it too.
“ It taste good.” He commented and a smile spread on my lips because I had personally handpick the wines to be supplied. It was one of the things I owed myself for trying so hard.
Good wines.
“ Hmm hmm.” I hummed and took another sip. “ It’s a very good wine, expensive too.” I added.
“ I can see that.” He replied, bringing the glass to meet his eye level and stared at it as though he was admiring it.
“ What were you going to talk about?.” I asked.
“ The villagers found the body of a dead Wolf in the wood.” He informed.
“ A Wolf?.” I said, sounding a bit excited. “ Is he from here?.” I ask, wishing he wasn’t. Wishing he was her ex mate.
Maybe that would put her back in her place.
“ Yes. Ummm they said he is the son of one of the farmers who had gone to gather some of the harvests.” Trevor responded and my hopes shattered.
“ Oh!.” I exclaimed. “ Were you able to see the body?.” I asked.
“ No, Alpha but according to those who did. They said the body looked whitish and drained of blood without any sign of a cut of fang. It was as though his whole blood drained without a trace.” He narrated.
I exhaled deep.
I knew what this meant. It meant war from the witches because only them could do something of us.
But how were they able to access our border, after all the protection?.
Except only if there is a witch amongst us.
“ It could be the witches.” He said.
“ It has been ages they attacked us or made attempts to. I wonder why would their reason be now.” I responded.
“ Or could be something out there killing people?.” He said and I nod negatively.
“ And draining them of their blood without a trace. I doubt.” I responded and added. “ More trainings from tomorrow. We need to prepare for war, from them or anything lurking around.”
“ Okay Master.” Nolan responded and gulped down the rest of his wine. He got up on his feet. “ I will get going now, Master.” He said and bowed slightly after Trevor waved him off before actually leaving.
Trevor gulped down his wine too and got up from his seat. He walked up the stairs and had knocked on his room door before he remembered he had told her he wouldn’t be sleeping there.
Alyssa opened the door before he could change his mind and leave.
“ Trevor!.” She called out to him, the expression on her face showing that she hadn’t been expecting him.
“ Hi…I..” I stammered and paused, not wanting to look weak to her. I hated being weak. “ I just wanted to tell you there will be immense training tomorrow.” I lied and turned around, walking away. I could have swore that I could feel her eyes on me but as I turned around to look, she was no longer standing there.
Just perfect. I’m barely gone and she moved on.
