Chapter 72

Chapter 72

As the actual head of the studio, Mireille naturally had their contact information. A single glance at Priscilla was all it took for her to understand.

"I know. I'll call them," she said, tapping her phone with a crisp sound. "You just get all the evidence ready. Leave the rest to me." Her eyes shone with a determined light.

But Priscilla didn't think it would be that simple. "Leave the matter of spending money to suppress hot search news to me. The company has a lot of things waiting for you. I'm afraid you'll be spread too thin," she said, stopping Mireille just as she was about to leave.

And just as Priscilla had predicted, as soon as Mireille left, she was intercepted by Vance's personal secretary.

"Ms. Grayson, Mr. Grayson would like to see you." the secretary said, his face impassive.

It had been so long since anyone had mentioned Vance to her that Mireille felt a little strange. "My dad? He hasn't been here in a long time, has he?" Mireille found it odd. However, even though Vance was getting on in years, he was still very concerned about company matters, so Mireille wasn't surprised. She didn't think much of it, picked up her bag, and went to the downstairs office.

In the office, Vance was sitting in a leather chair, the large seat hiding his legs, making him look almost normal. Mireille naturally sat down opposite him.

"Dad, are you feeling better today? What made you want to see me?" Mireille asked, puzzled.

Vance looked at Mireille and frowned. "If I hadn't come, would you have continued to mess around?"

Mireille gave him a meaningful look. "Dad, that's an interesting way to put it. How have I been messing around?"

"I've just been running the company properly." Mireille said. Was there a single matter, big or small, in the company that didn't need her attention? Mireille felt that her own face had become quite haggard.

Vance's eyes scanned her up and down. "Then you can't just kick your own relatives out of the company! They are your family!" Vance's tone grew cold.

At the word "family," Mireille's expression turned frigid. "In our family, I'm an only child. When did I get so many relatives?" she asked nonchalantly. She had indeed cleared out a large number of old-timers from the company a while back, but all the dismissals were well-founded and in accordance with regulations. Mireille had expected Vance to confront her then, but she never imagined he would wait this long to bring it up. A cold smile formed in Mireille's heart.

"Those are your elders. What great crime did they commit for you to kick them all out of the company? People will say we're heartless!" Vance questioned.

As if she had expected this day, Mireille took out her tablet from her bag. With a light tap, a document appeared in front of Vance. She gently tapped the screen, scrolling through the report.

"Look at these." Mireille's voice was laced with a playful tone. "Are you sure you don't care about their factionalism?" Vance couldn't possibly be unaware of the impact factionalism had on the company.

Vance glanced at the documents and then looked at Mireille. "Do you think I've been in this company for so long and I don't know anything about what they've been doing?" He had built this company from the ground up; his abilities were not to be underestimated. He knew, but he had his reasons for not acting.

Mireille crossed her arms and looked at Vance. "From any angle, getting rid of these people who do nothing but cause trouble is a merit. Dad, you shouldn't be so concerned." Her tone was cold, almost inhuman.

Although he knew that every word Mireille said was reasonable, her unfeeling attitude made Vance realize the reality of the situation. Although he came to the company every day, the power he held was probably already divided and gone.

A cold glint flashed in Vance's eyes. "It's not the job of a person in power to attack their own relatives!"

"Then what is the job of a person in power?" Mireille retorted. "Don't you know what they've been doing? Don't you know about the complaints in the company!" Her voice rose, tinged with a sense of grievance.

Vance had never felt so powerless.

"You signed Priscilla. Now everyone is saying that her gold medal was won through connections. Do you know how much this will affect the company?" Vance questioned as Mireille was about to leave. Since the rumors hit the trending topics, the Grayson Group's stock price had been plummeting.

"The stock market goes up and down. It's normal, Dad. You should be used to it. Besides, if someone wins a gold medal and no one slanders them, that would be strange, wouldn't it?" Mireille retorted logically. Her words left Vance speechless.

"No matter what! If you don't let your uncles come back, I won't allow Priscilla to continue at the Grayson Group!" Vance said through gritted teeth.

Mireille, who was about to leave, stopped in her tracks. "What did you say?" She seriously wondered if Vance had been cursed. How could he say such a thing?

"The Visconti Group is collaborating with us because of Priscilla. If we fire her now, the Visconti Group will definitely cancel the collaboration. And right now, it's just some baseless rumors online. If they're cleared up later, and we've fired Priscilla, have you thought about what people will say about us?" Mireille questioned, word by word.

Vance was rendered speechless by her words. As he watched Mireille leave, his eyes were dark. The secretary came in from outside and, seeing Vance's grim face, remained silent.

"Go and find out what the background of that woman named Priscilla is!" Vance said with a sullen face.

The secretary acknowledged the order.

At this moment, Priscilla had no idea that while she was figuring out how to deal with the rumors, Vance had already set his sights on her.

Perhaps because she was in a bad mood, Mireille left the building right after leaving Vance's office. She only left a message for Priscilla before she left. Seeing Mireille's message, Priscilla didn't think much of it, because Algernon was calling.
