FIFTY-SIX

**-Indy’s POV-**

I’m waiting for their response, my heart beating faster every second. I see them glancing at each other and I know they’re mindlinking.

“Scott, we should tell her. She deserves to know, no more secrets. Right?”

I don’t dare to push right now, so I keep quiet and wait for them to battle this out. Scott throws his hands in the air and growls: “Fine. You tell her.”

Ryan turns towards me and starts talking. “I’m not sure what you already know about my parents, but let’s start with the beginning. My mom and dad were great as a pair, just like us they were mated by the moon. Father was a fair, but stern Alpha. Mom was the one that softens him when needed. We were raised with love, but mostly from mom. She was a great Luna, taking care of the pack. She knew exactly what was going on with every pack member, not caring about the size of our pack that kept growing every year.” Ryan sighs, remembering all this.

I’m playing with my hands, still nervous. Heck, even more nervous now I hear what kind of Luna their mom was. That’s a tough one to replace.

“Dad was the one that kept the pack running on the more practical and ‘hard’ side. He was the one that kept looking for other wolves, made sure that every warrior was in shape and that we made enough money to keep everyone safe and sound. He was a real businessman, he gained a lot of respect in the human world as an owner of one of the biggest companies in town: Yunit Lawyers.”

I gasp, that’s where I heard their pack-name before! Yunit Lawyers, of course! “That’s your company?” I gasp.

Ryan chuckles. “No, it’s not. It’s fathers. Although Scott is the salaried partner of the company, he’s not in charge and has not much rights or ownership. Yet, I have to say. Scott is a very good lawyer and was on his way to become an equity partner when all the chaos started.”

Scott took over from here: “Chaos? Fight, brawl, it doesn’t matter how you call it. But I’d rather use disagreement.”

“Disagreement? It was far more than that, Scott. And you know it. If it was ‘just a disagreement’, mom and dad would be here right now.” Ryan says irritated.

Scott sighs. “Fine. Two years ago, we had a fight, not just dad and I, but we - Ryan and I - and dad. And mom couldn’t calm dad down that time. Remember the explanation we gave you about being King and Alpha?”

I nod. I remember that. Because there cannot be two Alpha’s in one pack, they decided to name differently but both remained the same role at the end.

“Well, dad disagreed. He wanted us to fight each other, to claim the Alpha-spot rightfully. He was a man of laws, of course, and there was no such thing as two Alpha’s in one pack. But both Ryan and I didn’t want to fight each other, neither did one of us want to reign the pack on our own. You’ve seen the packsize, it’s huge! Even with the two of us and one Beta we’re barely keeping up with the duties. So, when we told him we were not gonna fight, he enraged. He stormed out of the house and didn’t come back.”

I stare at Scott, not sure if I understood completely. “Wait, never? He just disappeared?”

Ryan and Scott both nod. “We never saw him before. Mom and the Elders held the inauguration of us the day after and left immediately. She asked us not to follow her. But we knew she was going after dad. He’s her mate, she simply couldn’t live without him. Even when it meant she had to leave her pack. But I bet she knew we would do fine together.” Scott smiles.

“Sooo, in the end it wás possible to inaugurate two Alpha’s?” I ask curiously.

Ryan shakes his head. “Not exactly. On paper, we are ‘temporarily guardians’ of the Yunit Pack. Officially, the one that would find their mate first will be the official Alpha, and Luna, of the Yunit Pack and the other would just be an Alpha with no voice. We hated that construction, but Scott was confident he could find a maze in the law before that all would happen.”

“Wow. That sucks. But what now? Does it mean Scott will be the official Alpha now, because he found me first? I mean, I was found on his ‘shift’ right?”

Ryan laughs. “Oh no, maybe he wished, but no.”

“I don’t understand then, how is this all good? And why aren’t you stressed about this. I mean, I am! I’m the one that is responsible for the lack of time you have to figure it out, right? Or have you?” I ask, confused and a bit irritated at how calm the boys are talking about this. Soon they have to announce me to the pack and I will be their Luna, which means their temporary solution as guardians will have to end.

“Oh, *babae*, you don’t understand, do you?” Scott asks me and I shake my head. “YOU are our solution. It doesn’t matter who literally found their mate first, it’s all about who completed the mating first. You know, marking and mating each other, the whole thing.” Scott winks at me and I feel my cheeks getting red.

“I knew what you meant before explaining it to me, you bastard.” I whisper through my teeth, knowing he would hear me anyway, with his wolf-hearing.

“Sooo…” Ryan continues “....with us marking you at the same time, we’re both eligible to claim the Alpha title! Which means we can continue this work-around, with us both being Alpha’s and you our Luna, without violating the wolf-laws. I guess we’re the first Pack that will have, legally, two Alpha’s!” Ryan’s voice sounds excited but I still have second thoughts.

“What about your parents then? Why does this all concern him?” I ask.

“Because… He sent us a letter one week after he disappeared. He’ll come back when we follow the wolf-rules. I bet he’s expecting that there’s only one way out, his way, but I’m excited to see his face when he would understand that there was another work-around…” Scott explains with triumph showing all over his face.

“And you think he will come back that easily?” I’m not sure he will. That man doesn’t sound the type of guy you’ll invite to a party.

Ryan nods. “Of course he will, he’s a man of his word. And this can be the first time we beat him, that he has to admit that he was wrong. I can’t wait.”

I’m still not feeling it. “So, this is all about revenge?” I ask carefully.

Ryan and Scott stare at each other. “Maybe, in some kind of way. We just want him and mom back, we miss them too, you know. We want dad to show that there’s not just one way, his way, in the matter. We would like to teach him that it’s helpful to have a broader view sometimes, to listen to others. Also if the ‘other’ is younger or less experienced, like his sons.”

I nod, I understand where they’re coming from. It must be tough to grow up with that kind of guy. “And what is your plan? I mean, do you know how or when to find them?”

Ryan chuckles. “Lucky us, mom left us a note with their address. Well, we don’t know if it’s theirs, honestly. Maybe it’s just a way to contact them. I bet father doesn’t even know.”

“But why didn’t you try to find them, earlier?” I ask curious.

“Because we promised her not too. And we’re still men of our words.” Scott replies. “Anyhow, Ryan sent an emergency-letter to that address this afternoon, before we went to the Doctor. We have to wait now.”

“When are you expecting an answer?” I ask.

Scott shrugs. “If we know our parents well, I bet they’re not sending any. I think they just show up, five or six days from now. Max a week.”

I gasp. Am I going to meet my parents in law in just a few days? “Wooow. That’s fast. I - I’m not sure if I’m ready. I mean, your mother: she’s the ultimate Luna and I’m…. not. Just me. I’m not prepared!” I panic.

Scott walks over to me and lifts me in his arms. “Don’t worry babe, she will adore you. Besides, you’re carrying her grandchildren. Succes granted.”

I chuckle, thinking about that. He’s probably right, if she doesn’t like me, I still have that trick on my sleeve. But it’s not only about their mother, father seems a bit more difficult to convince. What would he think of me, an unprepared and untrained wolf, being their next Luna?

I’ve not had much time to think about it, because there are two pairs of hands discovering my body. “Boys..” I whisper. “.. I want to talk with Fiona, she’s waiting for me..” I try to convince them to let go of me, but I already know it’s a waste of time. I guess she has to wait a little bit longer indeed...
