As I listened to Amelia's description of the man, a realization hit me like a bolt of lightning. I suddenly knew exactly who he was. My heart started to pound in my chest as the truth dawned on me.
Wait a minute, a guy with salt and pepper hair color?
“Hold on Nanny…did he say his name is Arthur Reynolds?” I asked, she looked at me,
“Yes, he did. You know him?”
"Oh my god," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
"I know who he is." She looked at me, a puzzled expression on her face.
"Who is he?" she asked, her curiosity piqued. I swallowed hard, gathering my thoughts.
“He's the CEO of Nolds Shippers,” I said, and she was taken by surprise.
“The same company you're partnering with?”I nodded, and she began to feel bad.
“Oh my goodness, I didn't know.” She says. I wondered, feeling a mix of excitement and trepidation, wondering what he could possibly want.
Why was he in town? Had he come to see me, or was it just a coincidence? A million questions swirled through my mind, and I felt overwhelmed by the possibilities.
"Do you think he followed you here?" Amelia asked, her voice filled with concern. I shook my head, trying to calm my racing thoughts.
"No, that's not possible," I said, trying to convince myself as much as her.
“What's Arthur doing here in the city?”
……..
I went to bed with the brooding thoughts of Arthur in the city and I couldn't help but feel touched.
My phone beeped, I took out my cell phone, to see a message from Auden. I frowned.
Not the text I was expecting. I tossed my phone aside and then closed my eyes forcing it to sleep but it was not.
Unable to sleep. I kept replaying the events of the day in my head, unable to shake the feeling of unease.
What did Arthur want? Why had he shown up at my house? I tossed and turned, unable to find any peace. I finally fell into a fitful sleep, only to be woken by the sound of the doorbell ringing. My heart leaped into my throat as I sat up in bed, my mind racing.
Who could be at the door at this hour?
