Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Liam's POV
An hour later, the taxi dropped me off at the dorm. It was almost midnight by the time I arrived. It was dark and quiet when I entered the building. Most of the students were either out partying or sleeping. I made my way to my room and tried to open the door, only to find out that it was locked. I sighed and brought out my keys from my pocket. It was a little wet. I guess the rain must have really drenched my clothes. I slid in the keys and turned, but the door wouldn't budge. My body felt weak. My arms were aching, and so were my legs. I didn't want to be here anymore. I wanted to go to sleep.
"Why won't this door open?" I grumbled.
I shook the handle a couple of times, pushed the door, and hit the side of it.
"Fck." I muttered.
Jason must have changed the lock. Was he serious? He was that angry.
" Jason." I knocked on the door.
There was no reply.
"Jason. Open the door, please." I begged and continued knocking.
"It's late. I have nowhere else to go." I pleaded.
There was still no reply.
"Jason. Open the fcking door." I yelled as I hit the door repeatedly.
A couple of students from across the hall walked out to check out what was happening.
I didn't want any more attention. I didn't need the neighbors hearing or seeing this. I would surely be reported. I stepped away from the door and tried calling Jason. His phone rang a couple of times. I could even hear the phone ring through the door. But he didn't answer.
"Come on, Jason. Please. Just answer. Please." I begged.
After several more tries, the ringing stopped, and the call went to voicemail. He had turned his phone off.
"No. Please. Just open the door." I whispered.
I hit the door harder again and again. Suddenly, the door across the hall opened, and a man walked out. He was tall, wearing a bathrobe, and had a towel wrapped around his neck.
"Can you please stop that noise?" He yelled.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. But my roommate has changed the lock and won't open the door," I said.
"Well, you should have thought about that before sleeping with my brother." I heard Jason's voice.
I turned around. The door to the room was now open, and Jason was in his nightwear, leaning against the door frame. The guy was looking between the both of us. The guy looked confused for a moment but quickly realized this wasn't his fight. He shook his head, muttered something under his breath, and went back into his room, shutting the door behind him.
" Jason, please..." I whispered, stepping closer to him.
He raised his hand, stopping me in my tracks.
"No. Don't 'please' me, Liam. You've said enough." His voice was cold, sharper than I'd ever heard it before. I swallowed hard. The lump in my throat grew as I saw the anger and betrayal in his eyes.
" Jason, I know I messed up. I should've told you-"
"Should've? You think that makes it better?" He interrupted, his tone rising.
"I didn't want to hurt you," I said softly.
He let out a bitter laugh. "Well, congratulations. You failed miserably." I tried to step closer, but he backed away, gripping the door like it was the only thing holding his upright.
"You lied to me. You went behind my back. And for what? For Ryan?" His voice cracked slightly, but he quickly masked it with anger.
"I love him," I blurted out.
He froze, his eyes narrowing.
"You love him?" he repeated, as if the words were poison.
"Yes. I love him, Jason. I didn't plan for it to happen, but it did," I admitted, tears streaming down my face.
"If you could just let me explain..." I spoke.
Jason scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"What is there to explain? I think everything has been said. You lied. You slept with Ryan. You slept with my brother, behind my back. And you were planning on keeping it a secret," he yelled, pointing his finger at me.
I could hear murmurs among the other students who were now watching the scene.
They were saying all kinds of things about me.
"Isn't he dating Brandon? How could he be cheating on him with Ryan, the school bad boy," one said.
"He's sleeping with his best friend's brother. That's sick," a female student who was poking her head out from the room whispered.
I could hear them gossiping. Their words hurt. But it didn't matter. I was too angry and sad. I wanted to scream.
"Jason. Can we not do this here. Let's talk inside the room. Please. Everyone is staring," I begged.
"Why? Are you embarrassed, Liam? Huh?" he asked.
"When you were being a s-lut and sleeping with your best friend's brother, were you embarrassed?" he laughed.
"When you were hooking up with Ryan behind my back and lying to my face and making me look like a fool, were you embarrassed?"
I lowered my head. Jason had a point. I was a terrible friend. I could feel tears forming again.
"Don't cry, Liam. Don't you dare cry," Jason pointed his finger at me.
"You have no right. You don't get to feel sorry for yourself. Not after what you did," he continued.
"Not after you betrayed me. So if I were you, I wouldn't even think of sleeping here because this is no longer your room. I'm not letting you in here," he finished.
Then, he slammed the door shut.
"No. Jason. Open the door. Please. Jason, Jason," I yelled.
"Jason. Open the door."
"Jason. Jason. Jason," I shouted.
"Jason."
"Please. Open the door," I cried as I slid to the floor and sobbed.
This couldn't be happening. How did things turn out this way?
"Jason"
I continued calling his name, but there was no answer.
The neighbors were still watching and talking.
Some of them were even taking videos. I've never felt humiliated or embarrassed like this before. My heart was broken, and my pride had been shattered. This was a terrible day. And I felt all alone.
