Chapter 134
Melanie's POV
Thankfully, the rest of the day went by without more trouble from Lydia.
I even got a call from Luke during my lunch break, which put me in a good mood. He told me all about school and the new friends he had made. His follow-up appointment was in a few weeks so we made a date to see each other then.
I was glad he was doing so well. He was one of the first patients I had when I started at the hospital and we kind of developed a bond.
People like to think that it was the doctors that had patients but they were more of ours.
I was about to make the turn towards where Ralph parked when my way was suddenly cut off.
"Excuse me," I said, trying to maneuver around, the person but they kept blocking my way.
Frustrated, I finally stopped and looked up to see who the intruder was and was surprised to find a very beautiful, blonde-haired girl staring at me.
One look at her entire outfit and I could tell that she was wearing high-end designers, enough to open her own store.
Still, that doesn't explain why she would be blocking my way and I could tell for a fact that we have never met. There was no way I would have forgotten a face like that.
"Uhm… is there a reason why you're blocking my way?" I asked her.
"No need to get defensive, I'm just trying to make your acquaintance," she said.
Okay, weird…
"That still doesn't explain why you ambushed me by blocking my way," I replied.
She raised her perfectly manicured nails in surrender.
"I apologize then, I just couldn't help myself," she said.
I raised a brow. "I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean. I don't believe we've met so this still feels weird."
"You're right about that, we have never met but you have made quite an impression that I just had to meet you, and now that I have I can't seem to get it."
"Get what?"
"How you were able to do it," she answered.
I sighed. Great, I just had to run into a lunatic at the end of my shift. It's a shame though because she was very pretty but I hope she got the help she needed.
"I'm sorry but I think you've got the wrong person or better still you have me mistaken for someone I'm clearly not. So if you don't mind, I'd like to be on my way now."
I tried to sidestep her but she followed me and obstructed me again.
"I think I found who I'm looking for," she said.
"I just told you that you haven't," I replied, already irritated.
I'd been on my feet a lot today and I just wanted to get home.
"You're Melanie Jones, right?" she asked.
That made me stop in my tracks.
She knew my name?
Who was she and what on earth did she want with me?
"Who's asking?"
"So you are, Melanie Jones," she said, a small smile playing on her lips but I could tell it didn't reach her eyes.
"Like I said earlier, I don't know who you the hell you are and whatever this is, I'm not interested," I told her.
"I just thought of coming to see the face of my competition," she said.
"I don't fucking know who you are so why on earth would you think I was in a competition with you," I replied.
"Of course we are, darling. You're Adriano's new plaything," she said.
I was shocked at that revelation. So shocked that I didn't know what to say but one thing on my mind was, how on earth did she know, Adriano?
"I can tell from the look on your face that you don't know who I am," she said. "Shame since I was a very important part of his life, but not to worry, he just needs to see me once then all the memories will come flooding back to him."
I could tell there was a huge story here and she was trying to goad me, but I was not going to give her the satisfaction. The fact is that she ambushed me because she felt threatened by me.
"I can see you've done your homework from me and you probably have some kind of history with my man."
Yes, I emphasized my man because I could be petty too and I was sick and tired of women thinking that they could psych me out just because they were jealous and that is exactly what this beautiful, blonde girl was.
"But I have to say that since my man hasn't mentioned you at all, it means that you aren't important enough to be mentioned and frankly, I find the fact that you had to resort to stalking your ex's new girlfriend very pathetic. I don't have any interest in making your acquaintance so move before I get someone who won't hesitate to do it for me."
Her face had turned a crimson shade and she was slack-jawed, obviously surprised that I had the guts to speak to her like that.
I don't know how she knew me and I honestly, didn't care but I'm concerned about it not happening again.
"You would regret this," she threatened.
"The only thing you would regret is meeting me if you don't get out of my way this instant," I said.
Just when I needed him, I noticed, Ralph walking towards us. He might have noticed that I still hadn't gotten to the car and wanted to check what was holding me up.
"Now, excuse me," I said and passed by her.
"Is everything okay?" Ralph asked when I got to him.
He was wearing a frown on his face that was so unusual and it was directed right at the blonde girl.
"Everything is fine, I just got sidetracked by a crazy lady," I told him but he didn't look convinced.
"Are you sure?"
I nodded. "Yes, I am. Now can we just go home? I'm really tired."
He nodded. "Yes, we can, Miss Jones."
