Chapter 133
Melanie's POV
"Do you need me to excuse you both?" Alice asked.
"No."
"Yes."
Adriano and I said at the same time.
I turned to her. "You don't need to leave, Alice," I said. "If anyone needs to leave the kitchen, he should be the one."
"Are you sure you're ready to do this, little nurse?" he asked.
"If you want to eat any more cookies then you'll do as I say and leave the kitchen," I told him.
He raised a brow and smirked at me. "Is that a threat, little nurse?"
"It is what you want it to be," I replied.
He leaned into me and whispered in my ears, "You can't keep me from my cookie, Tesoro and I'm not just talking about the one you made."
I gasped at his words. Sure enough, my panties were already wet.
"You're such a bad man," I whispered in response.
"Only for you, little nurse," he said and stood upright.
"Well, it looks like we got our privacy after all."
"Huh?"
"Look around, little nurse. We're alone," he said.
I looked around the kitchen and true enough, Alice had snuck out of the kitchen.
"Can you see what you did?" I asked.
"I didn't do anything," he said, feigning innocence.
"You chased Alice out of the kitchen," I said.
"I did no such thing, little nurse. She had the good sense to give us our privacy and I appreciate it."
"Not when we still work to do," I said.
"You don't need to do any work in my house. That's why I pay staff."
I shook my head. "Sometimes I just can't with you."
Adriano, being who he is, blindsided me with a kiss that shut me up.
"Now can I have some cookies?" he asked.
I blinked, trying to regain my composure.
"Yes, you can get some cookies," I said.
He smiled at me. "See, it wasn't that hard."
"I was about to store yours in a jar," I told him.
"Then I guess I came at the right time then."
I filled his usual cookie jar with the cookies that had cooled down earlier and handed it to him.
"Don't eat it all at once," I said.
"No promises," he replied, already shoving a cookie in his mouth.
"Do you still have work to do?" I asked.
He gave me a look. "What do you think?"
"I think it's high time you stopped working for the night," I replied.
"Then your wish is my command."
The next instant, I was in a fireman's hold over his shoulder.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"You gave me cookies, now I'm in the mood for another type of cookie," he said.
"Oh, well alright then," I replied, smiling sheepishly.
Adriano carried me up the stairs to our bedroom where he proceeded to feast on my cookie so good that I saw stars.
The next morning, I was still thinking about it and smiling at work.
"What has you smiling like a schoolgirl?" a voice asked.
I looked up from the chart I was updating to find, Lydia glaring at me.
I was in too good a mood to entertain her nonsense.
"Do you need me to help with anything, Lydia?" I asked.
"That's not the answer to my question," she replied.
"You asked an unprofessional question and since we're not friends, I don't think I'm bound to answer your question," I said.
"Don't think you can put up airs around here just because you're dating a billionaire," she sneered.
Oh, Lydia. So predictable but her venom wasn't going to affect me today.
"I know you have a problem with me but I'll implore you not to bring my man into conversations. It would be much appreciated."
"You don't have the right to tell me what to do," she retorted.
"Okay then, I see you're in a mood and I'm not ready to be your punching bag today. Also, I'm sure you have better things to do than stand here and banter words with me," I replied.
She leaned against the counter and whispered, "Don't think you're something special just because a billionaire bothered to look your way. Trust me you're way below his league and he is just using you to pass the time. I can't wait for him to drop you so fast when a girl more his league comes along."
"And that girl would never be you," a voice said behind Lydia.
I smiled at Hayley who was glaring daggers at Lydia.
"Yeah, what Hayley said."
"I wasn't talking to you, Hayley," Lydia grumbled.
"Oh, but you should talk to me. I'll love a good excuse to put you in your place," Hayley responded. "There are better things to do but no, the spiteful bitch in you decided to rear its ugly head and you think I'll just leave you be? When have you ever minded your business?"
"I think it'll be wise for you to run along now, Lydia," I said.
By now we were already getting weird looks from the other nurses and some of the residents.
"Don't think this is over," Lydia warned.
"Lydia, it never even began in the first place," I told her with a smirk.
She glared at Hayley one more time before she walked away.
"When is she ever going to get the memo and mind her damn business?" Hayley asked.
I shrugged. "I don't know, maybe when hell freezes over," I said and Hayley burst into laughter.
"Sometimes I forget how funny you can be without even trying," she said.
"Well, I'm glad you found that funny," I replied.
"On a serious note, girl, I'm sorry you have to take all that shit from, Lydia," she said.
"Please don't apologize for another person's terrible behavior. And I can handle myself around Lydia so you don't need to worry about me."
"I have no doubt that you can," Hayley replied. "It's just that sometimes I have this urge to grab her neck and squeeze the life out of her, then she won't be able to spew her shit."
You and me both, Hayley but we don't always get what we wish for.
