Chapter 63 June’s POV
Chapter 63 June’s POV
June’s POV
But yet, he blamed me for everything.
That alone left me with no option, but to leave. It was the best option that I could come up with.
I slowly closed my eyes, and then the memory of everything came back. It wasn’t the memory of Declan and Withney, but it was a memory of Lucian.
I tried as much as possible to avoid him that night but it was just impossible. Everything about him was serious.
When I told him that I wasn’t into any of this before, he said that I shouldn’t worry, and he wasn’t going to say anything to anyone.
I didn’t really believe him, but I went with him because he was a stranger and nobody was really going to know if anything would happen between us.
That was the mindset that I had. I did not think for one day that I was going to see him at my family gathering. Now we are working at the same place and everybody is in the same place things I have gone to Las Vegas to satisfy my sexual urge.
That’s crazy.
So how did this rumor start?
I stood up suddenly, my chair scraping loudly against the floor. A few people looked at me, surprised.
I ignored them.
I knew what I had to do. At that point, I only had one thing in mind and that was him. The only person I saw in Las Vegas was. The only person who knew about my trip was.
I was going to his office.
While I was walking, I lifted my head slowly to look at the clock on the wall. It was the perfect time because it would definitely be in his office.
When I got there, he was seated, his eyes scanning through some documents. But that wasn’t the reason that I had gone down to see him. It had nothing to do with the papers so I ignored them.
He was seated and looking calm, but I noticed the shock on his face when he saw me. Was he really expecting me to knock?
That wasn’t going to happen.
I just pushed the door open the moment I got closer and there was.
He looked up from his desk, his expression unreadable. “June.”
“Did you tell anyone?” I asked immediately, my eyes coming around his office with anger.
But the reply he gave to me, got me even more anxious and worried.
“I don’t understand,” He frowned slightly. “Tell anyone what?”
“About Las Vegas,” I replied to him almost immediately because he gave me his word. Even when he came to visit me in my house, I made sure that he didn't tell anyone about the relationship that was going on between us.
Now I am hearing all of these.
What if they happen to find out that he is the person I met in Las Vegas?
Holy shit! I wanted to scream at this moment, but the room was very quiet, and for a moment, he just looked at me with cold eyes, and then he looked back at the screen in front of him.
“No,” he said. “I didn’t. Have you forgotten that I made a promise to you not to tell anyone about it?”
My heart didn’t slow down.
I remember the promise that he made, but it doesn’t change the fact that he could actually say it even without knowing when he said it.
“Are you sure?” I pressed. “Because people are talking. They’re saying I went there and left my sick mother behind.”
You didn’t really show it out completely, but I noticed that there was surprise in his eyes. He might have actually thought that I didn’t see it, but I saw it clearly.
“That’s strange…” he gasped.
Yes, it was really strange. “This is the same reason why I need to know where it came from. I want you to tell me the truth, did it come from you?”
The look on his face immediately changed. It was almost like he was angry. “I have told you before that I did not tell anyone. I don’t discuss private matters with people outside,” he replied to me with a harsh tone and that was the first time I had heard him like that.
It’s gonna be possible that I have actually annoyed him. But I really didn’t care. All I needed was to get answers.
“Don’t you think about yelling at me because what you give is not an answer,” I quickly shot back.
I didn’t want anybody intimidating me for any reason because I was already passing through a lot. He shouldn’t make it more complicated.
“It is an answer,” he replied, with that same energy again, but his voice was a little bit calm this time.
I let out a small laugh and then took a step closer to his desk. “If you did not say anything, then I think I should get some explanation on how people find out because it wasn’t my friend who let out that information.”
He didn’t respond right away.
That scared me more than anything.
“Lucien,” I said quietly. “How?”
His fingers tapped lightly on the desk. Once. Twice. Then he stopped.
“I don’t know,” he said finally. “Going to Las Vegas wasn’t really a big deal and you shouldn’t even think too much about it. People go there for fun and you just went there to have fun.”
That was correct. I went there to have fun, but I didn’t go there to abandon my sick mother.
I was getting intrigued because they were all talking about my sick mother. This wasn’t just about me.
I don’t just know, but something inside of me really wanted to believe in. He sounded like he was saying the truth, like he didn’t really tell anybody about it.
But then, I noticed he was being calculative. He looked like he was thinking about something.
I just hope that he didn’t tell anyone about what happened between us. They can’t find out that I had something to do with a family member.
That’s going to be a disgrace and they are all going to hate me forever. They wouldn’t even think about the fact that Lucian pursued me to get this.
And he was still doing it, even though he knew that we were family.
Arhhh… “What have I gotten myself into?” The words escaped from my mouth unknowingly but it was just a whisper.
“You’re the only person who knew I was there,” I said, still not wanting to give up on the issue
“That’s not true,” he responded immediately and that made my breath catch because he could actually be serious.
“What?” I snapped
His eyes met mine, steady and calm. “Las Vegas is not a hidden place, June. People go there every day. You could have been seen.”
That was also possible. I could have actually been seen by somebody else and the passengers decided to stay quiet all this time.
I felt my chest tighten again. I just didn’t want anybody to see me as a whore.
